Cats Costumery | Making a Late Victorian Walking Suit, part III @CatsCostumery | Uploaded January 2021 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video!
It's been a little while since I mentioned this project, but I hadn't forgotten about it! This is an 1890s walking suit, based across a bunch of examples from Harper's Bazaar and some extant garments. It's actually been completed ever since April last year, but because of lockdowns, weather, etc, I hadn't (and still haven') been able to get some nice, full length photos of it. I hope to change that! Hopefully I'll have images soon so I can do either a little costume feature or add the footage to the last video (I also filmed the making of the hat!).
Part I youtube.com/watch?v=PkZ35XMAKXE
Part II youtube.com/watch?v=aAA_PN8saLY
This video goes over making the vest. I was inspired by an 1890s extant bodice that I saw for sale on Instagram (I sadly did not get it), which had pleats fanning over the front. The draping and mock-up went great, but the type of cotton I picked for it was totally wrong, so the end result is a little wrinkly (it was more like cotton for sheets, bed linen, etc). However I think I did some of my finest handsewing on this piece so I'm a little reluctant to replace it đ I haven't ruled out improving it though!
