Today I'm showing you how I turned ONE custom-fit pattern into TWO matching separates — a lined vest and mini skirt — using the Catherine pattern from Wildebloom. My Wildebloom Catherine muslin fit SO WELL that I needed to make it immediately, but a fitted dress really isn't my style, so I made separates instead!
Instead of sewing the pattern as designed, I used the dress pieces and split them into separates to create a coordinated set. This is such a great way to get more versatility out of a single, WELL-FITTING sewing pattern, and the result is a polished outfit that can be worn together or mixed with other pieces in your wardrobe.
In this tutorial, I walk through:
• How I converted the dress into separates
• Creating a lined vest
• Creating a facing for the mini skirt from the same pattern
• Tips for clean finishing and structure
• Getting more value from one sewing pattern
One thing I love about Wildebloom patterns is that your purchase gives you flexibility. The size you select is just a starting point, and you can adjust measurements inside the software (currently up to a 59" bust and 67" hip). You can also regenerate and edit your pattern as many times as you'd like — so you can experiment with different versions and fits.
