Directors Statement: Nationwide protests arise in response to the murder of George Floyd. Ella Miller, a performative activist, uses this opportunity to display her ally-ship online in order to comfort her white guilt and be praised by her peers. Meanwhile Nia Hodge, a truly dedicated activist, questions if Ella’s intentions are genuine, challenging her to confront her hypocrisy behind the screen. Social media is constantly being abused to mask the truths of reality and sculpture fabricated images of popular belief, as shown by character Ella Miller. In this incredibly significant moment of modern history, the upsurge in popularity for the Black Lives Matter movement is being exploited by countless individuals and major businesses for personal and financial gain. As a team, we’ve decided that we needed to create a film that unmasks the hidden truths that resonate so deeply within our generation. As a passion-driven team, we overcame the challenges of creating a film during a major pandemic, while adhering to social distancing guidelines.
It was incredibly important to us that we create a safe and healthy environment for the actors and crew.

DCTV Youth Media empowers NYC teens and young adults (13–24) to tell personal stories and drive social change through film. Our free programs provide filmmaking training, mentorship, college counselling, and industry connections. 100% of our high school students graduate and attend college, with films featured on HBO and WNET and winning major awards, including local Emmys and a Sundance Grand Jury Prize.
