-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Mad King Redemption is a game I've been looking forward to for a lil bit since I saw it making its rounds around Twitter. The mix of gorgeous pixel art with retro 3D backgrounds pulled me in right away. Seeing that Mad King Redemption was a beat 'em up with rougelite mechanics peaked my interest.

Things went awry though when I started playing the game. Enemies can blast through player health no problem. Combos are pretty basic and the combat loop feels simple with not much room for growth or expression. For my first hour of gameplay I just kept getting killed in the first room of my run. Then I found the absolute power of the jump attack. Stick around to find out what I think about Mad King Redemption as I do a full run of early access.

Still I'm grateful that the devs, Secret Mission, gave me a key for early access.
