MrINFANTSEdit: It's very possible to do this without having to drop all the way to the bottom again after placing the blue portal.
I played around in Three Gels today and discovered that it's possible to make it to the top platform with a clever fling. Being that this is a new discovery, there may be more optimizations that this brings about. As of this run (which is a bit sloppy in parts) I hit the trigger for the white gel about 4 seconds faster than jyjey's WR run.
There are a couple caveats to this trick though, it seems like you need to turn off portal funneling (sv_player_funnel_into_portals 0) in order to get the last fling. This isn't too much of a problem though because it's not considered a cheat. The other being crouching during the fling. It might be possible without a crouch, but it seems easier to me.

I got a bit too much speed off the first jump, which locked my air control not allowing me to strafe to the catwalk. Instead I had to bump up against the blue pillar just to prevent falling to my death. That probably cost about 2 seconds alone just because I lost all of my momentum and led to a sad display of bunny hopping.
I got two black turrets right away, and the turret boost was very fast. Unfortunately, I didn't land exactly where I wanted to, and had to waste another couple of seconds to set up and move the black turret out of my way.
The I realized that I pretty much had the run at that point, and that the only thing preventing me from having that sweet world record was clean bunny hopping. This made me bunny hop like a casual, and I hit almost every corner in slow motion until Wheatly stopped me and took all of my momentum. I fought through the tears and finished, but the ending is a sad display.

This would save a bit of time, and you might be able to hit an earlier cycle of turrets. Just thought I would throw this out there in case anyone would like to make the worst run ever even worse.Portal 2 Incinerator (43.43)MrINFANTS2012-12-26 | I found a decently fast route for the beginning that is just as fast as the other if performed perfectly. If it isn't perfect, like this run, it's still pretty fast and it is much more consistent. Since I'm not dying 9/10 runs, the ending can be much more optimized and lead to a better time overall.
There are still a few improvements that can be made to this run. Jumping over the incinerator at the beginning can be faster. It's possible to get a more significant boost off of the second jump which propels you all the way into the next room before the next dialogue starts, but it was just a little bit too slow here. The portal stand was good, but the placement of the blue portal after the portal stand was far from the edge, and I spent a while walking down the hallway. Other than than, I'm pretty pleased with the run, it's very slightly better than Jyjey's run, which was my goal.

There's a few tricks I used here, but it's mostly just jumping past all the combat instead of fighting. At about 20 seconds in, I use the pallet to do a prop climb over the debris, and I imagine this is the biggest time saver here seeing as I don't have to stop and jump over 2 levels of boxes.
At the 14 or 15 second mark, It's possible to get a boost off of the spawning enemy, but in this run it actually stopped my bunny hop and slowed me down. Pretty good timing here could save a couple seconds.
The final part could've been done better as well. Ideally Gordon would be up against the cage as it opens, but in this case I got stuck behind the button console instead of jumping on top of it. I actually thought that there was a button there that opens the door, but apparently I was just imagining it.
On a side note I don't use any scripts for jumping/prop climbing/anything really.Black Mesa: bm_c2a4c Room Skip/Speed RunMrINFANTS2012-09-18 | I saw Tyronis3 playing this map today and it looked fun. Turns out you can skip a bit of the map by moving over a backwards conveyor belt. It's easy with the explosive boost, but it's possible without it.
Even though this run is a little sloppy, it shows that this game has some really neat speed-running potential.
It's also worth noting that there's a neat little bug that allows you to grab onto ladders even when there's something obstructing your path. Near the end of the run, I stand on the opposite side of the rail and press my use key against the ladder. This pushes me through the rail and against the ladder without having to jump over it.Black Mesa: Vent HoppingMrINFANTS2012-09-17 | I discovered a neat little trick to move quickly in the vents so now I'm showing the world. FAQ:
Why am I going backwards?: Synchronize your mouse movement with your key presses. Left strafe key should only be pressed while moving the mouse left. Right strafe should only be pressed while moving the mouse right. The opposite will start moving you backwards.
Help it's not working: Move through the video in order. Can you gain speed by moving in zig-zags? Can you jump in a circle, gaining speed slowly? Can you air-strafe to the bottom ledge?
Help it's still not working: Never press the forward key. It's tempting to press the "+forward" (W) key when wanting to quickly move forward. If anything, you should only have to press it for a fraction of a second when you first start moving (for a circle jump). after that, do not press +forward.
Why am I losing momentum? Could be that you're not using the mouse wheel to jump. Timing the jump with the space bar is impossible for basically everyone, especially beginners.
Also note that 300 units is portals "speed limit" for allowing air strafes. If you exceed 300 units of velocity, you will lose the ability to air strafe. This makes it much harder to gain speed, and removes the ability to maneuver in the air. Use the technique in the video to maintain this +300 unit speed.
Did they patch it out? No, and extremely unlikely to ever happen in the future.
Do I need to crouch? No. Although it seems there is a technique for hitting a slightly higher speed by holding crouch on every other hop, but that's beyond the scope of this tutorial.
The structure of this video is such that people can understand WHY bunny hopping is a thing. With that intuition, they can practice their own method that follows some simple guidelines. The final bunny hop at the end is by no means something that you have to emulate perfectly. Feel free to play around and find your own style.
Meta: Everything except for the demo recordings for this video was made in Blender. Blender is primarily used for 3D graphics manipulation, but also has various video editing tools. The in-game overlay was made entirely in the compositor, and the text is actually in 3D space but is composited over the initial 3D render of the keys and mouse. Both the mouse and keyboard is modeled by me. Don't judge the mouse model, it's retro not ugly. All of the animations are hand key-framed and animated, so they are close to frame accurate, but by a human (sorry). Animations may not be perfect for that reason, but they are good enough for learning purposes. Blender is also free and open-source, you can try your hand at it if you have a lot of time: http://www.blender.orgPortal 2 Cave Johnson Former World Record (46.26s)MrINFANTS2012-08-09 | Since jyjey beat my old time, I decided that I should try my luck at this chamber again. Luckily, this chamber is becoming less about luck the more I play it. The reportal shot is pretty consistent for me now, leaving the elevator escape as the biggest challenge.
Since the elevator escape happens pretty fast in this run, I should probably explain exactly what happens. If you just normally press the button in the elevator, there is a clip brush (invisible wall) that appears to prevent you from leaving. It is possible to move towards the exit while pressing the button, and have your body be occupy the same space as the clip brush when it appears. This traps you in the space between the elevator and the free space outside, killing you when the elevator goes up. It is also possible to trap yourself outside of the gap between the elevator and outside, where the elevator can pass by while you are trapped in the invisible wall. This involves almost perfect timing. In either case, the only way you can stop being stuck in the invisible wall is to shoot both portals on any surface. Since the distance between dying and staying alive in the wall is pretty small, it's hard to tell if I'm going to get killed by the elevator or stay safely outside. For this reason, I always shoot the second portal pretty randomly; if I miss, I die and restart unless I had perfect timing on the button. If I did have perfect timing, I can just shoot another so who cares. In both cases it is totally harmless so why not just try and make some crazy shot where I don't aim.
After playing this A LOT I was finally able to beat jyjey's score without doing that crazy jump at the beginning. Still, this run is not perfect, but it is much better than my previous and I'm pretty pleased with it. Optimizing the beginning became more about jumping properly on inclines in order to get a boost out of the incinerator. Other than that, this is almost identical to my previous run.
In case you couldn't tell, this chamber is really frustrating. At least three times I hit the frame of the door on the way out of the chamber, only to miss the world record by 0.2 or less. That, and the 1029830984 hour wait for the chamber to start makes this WR pretty satisfying.Portal 2 Incinerator Former World Record (45.88s)MrINFANTS2012-06-16 | Leaderboards: http://steamcommunity.com/stats/Portal2/leaderboards/47735
Old info:
This run beats Bananasaurus by 0.15, but honestly his run is nicer. I don't use the crazy incinerator jump skip at the beginning, but manage to make up some time elsewhere. This run isn't exactly perfect anyway... I missed the portal stand and fumble about before picking up the portal gun. I'm still not really sure why this is the world record, but I'm happy for now. I might improve this later, but I also might not do anything that I say I will.
Also, this is done somewhat in response to spyrunite, who posted a pretty decent run and made me think that a world record was possible without the full incinerator skip.

This is the map that we chose, and it's pretty good. It's really tough to come up with a solid route and execute it in under 40 minutes, but it's a fun and we're planning on doing it with more people. If you're interested, join the group linked below (rules are on the group's page), or add me (a baby) on steam if you want to know what it's all about.
As far as this run goes, getting to that first cube fast enough is the biggest challenge, and everything after that is pretty much played as intended.
Not a bad run, but this route is very dependent on the player's aim, and is therefore very hard to perfect. This is to take the competition back from Spyrunite13 and Gig, who uploaded similar times earlier today.
I had an idea that the faith plate was really the biggest time sink in this chamber, and it turns out that skipping it and the adjacent hallway, even after having to backtrack a bit, is faster than the previous run.(Old run) MultipleTest Best Time Contest Entry (45.25s)MrINFANTS2012-05-24 | Contest Rules: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXl4emMp6Pw&feature=g-u-u&hd=1
The stairs at the beginning are really poorly done, but that cube jump is so hard to make that I don't think it matters very much. I'm fairly sure that this is the fastest possible route, but I wouldn't mind being proven wrong.
ps enter the competition this time is definitely beatable.
(old stuff)
This run uses pretty much all of the possible optimizations, but is honestly executed pretty badly. I fell completely out of the portal during the portal stand and probably lost between 3 and 5 seconds, but a world record is a world record I guess. Considering that every little section of this chamber is a nightmare, I'm happy enough just to have completed with a decent time.
The first part of the chamber is pretty uninspiring, my hopping is pretty ordinary and the portal stand to get to the elevator was butchered badly. It takes me a while to press the button, but I use the elevator skip to get the top of the elevator fast enough to have to wait for it to finish traveling. Finally, I hit the reportal and jumped to the exit.
I've done this chamber enough to get the final reportal about every 1 in 30 attempts. That, added with the frustration of getting crushed in the elevator every attempt ever, makes this chamber pretty much the worst thing in the world.
Just a very quick demonstration of a circle jump in Portal 2. I made the keys in Blender and manually animated everything so it might not be perfect. I wanted to make a slow motion part after this, but I don't know how to use computers so this is it.
Also, there's no sound because I couldn't find a good 2 second song to accurately portray the emotions expressed in the demonstration. You could play your own if you have something in mind.
PS if someone wants to see a full bunny hop with this same overlay I could do it. I just need to know if that's a thing that people actually want.

Pressing tab may have made this a little more interesting sorry about that.Turret Sabotage Portal 2 Former World Record (1:43.90)MrINFANTS2012-01-22 | There are a ton of random factors and crazy things that need to happen by chance in this chamber. Definitely one of the worst ever.
The mistakes that I made in the beginning really didn't end up making much of a difference since the first turret was white and I ended up waiting anyway. Getting to the turret by around the 32 second mark is usually good enough. After that, I miss the first turret boost but try again without any real setup and somehow make it. The jump from the blue beam was fine, and I really took my time on the jump to the final catwalk. From then on, my bunny hops were okay, but far from perfect.
I wanted to explain how that turret boost works but I really have no idea. There is no pattern at all, even after playing this chamber hundreds of times it seems totally random. I just place the first turret down, and then jump on it really fast using my mouse wheel while holding the second turret.
Also, pushing the turret around with the second turret is very random as well, so instead of trying to nudge the turret around the corner of the catwalk, I just throw the first one and pick up the second behind it. I've had the turret fly off the catwalk way too many times to mess around with trying to get that extra half second.
P.S. sorry about the quiet audio I forgot to turn my in-game sound up before recording.Turret Platform SadnessMrINFANTS2012-01-21 | After at least 10 hours of playing this chamber (non-consecutively) I managed to get the best run ever. Not only do I make the turret jump, I also make the jump between the rafters only to fall to my death after not expecting to hit the invisible platform on top of the catwalk.
This is probably the 4th or 5th time that I made the turret jump right away, but every time has either ended badly or happened with bad luck on the defective turrets. To beat the current World record, I only need to get 2/5 of the turrets, but after the 5th the time honestly becomes too close to be practical.
The other worst part of this chamber is pushing the turrets around only to have them fly off the platform or explode for no reason at all. Fortunately that didn't happen this time.
Even though I waited for the 4th turret, had I completed the rest of the level without failing too badly, I still would've beat the world record by about 5 seconds.
PS. the beginning of the video is cut off because source recorder but that's not what matters so ignore it. Also the audio is quiet oh well. And it's dark, but thats to accompany the somber mood.Portal 2 Laser Platform Former WR (20.40)MrINFANTS2012-01-10 | Fun chamber.
The most significant time saver for this run would probably be hitting that first jump correctly and not stopping. Other than that, I missed the first few button presses and didn't bother jumping along the rail at the end.
