C/2022 E3 ZTF and C/2022 U2 ATLAS conjunctionMr SuperMole2023-02-09 | On February 6, 2023, a very rare phenomenon occurred in the sky: a very close conjunction of two comets. Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) and comet C/2022 U2 (ATLAS) passed each other in the sky at a distance of 0.3° (the diameter of the Moon is about 0.5°). Although the comets appeared to be close together, they were actually about 40 million km apart. Green Comet - C/2022 E3 (ZTF) is quite bright (approximately magnitude 5.5), while Comet C/2022 U2 (ATLAS) is quite dim (approximately magnitude 11.5). The moon was very bright that night (98.7% phase), but I managed to capture both comets. In this video you can see the movement of both comets. The animation consists of 82 photos and covers the period from 9:00 pm to 9:42 pm (local time).

The comet has a beautiful greenish coma, a short and wide dust tail, and a thin but very long ion (gas) tail.
A beautiful astronomical event ending the year 2022 and starting the year 2023!!
