The 44th Street Portable Flower Factory - Runaway Child, Running Wild ubangistump 2011-02-06 | Scholastic Book Club (!) put out this 4-song 7", all covers, and I'm guessing sold it to some lucky kids circa 1970-72 who probably drove all over the damn things with their matchbox cars and roller skates and stuff. The songs are all decent, workmanlike, but this is my favorite jam - suspiciously caucasian-sounding nobodies funkin' it up with a Temptations cover they couldn't possibly do justice to. But you know what? They pull it off, in their way. Winds up next to "You Don't Know Where Your Interest Lies" alot in my mixes.

Charles Lloyd - Heavy Karma ubangistump 2013-02-12 | Lovely psychedelic jazz track from his weird vocal period - this one's from the album Moon Man (slightly more consistent cousin to Warm Waters, the cover of which bears a striking resemblance to If I Could Only Remember My Name). Around when he started hanging out with the Beach Boys, I think. Straight off of my not-perfect vinyl copy (there's a little skip about 8 seconds from the end; you'll live).
Psychic Feline - Vampires ubangistump 2013-02-11 | From their 2011 Blood Dolphins 7". Completely in love with their twangy, angular guitars (kinda like a laid back, psychedelic Shellac), catchy songs and their singer can actually sing. I don't know them, I hope they don't mind me posting this, though. They've got a Bandcamp thing happening so guy buy their records.
J.J. Jackson - Indian Thing ubangistump 2011-07-26 | From a 1970 release on Jimmy Curtiss' Perception label. Weird album, kind of jazz-soul-rock hybrid. This track kinda reminds me of Harvey Mandel if he were on an Indian kick. Mystical shit!

Early entrants into the rock umlaut sweepstakes. 1972 on Westbound records, mostly covers. In fact I'm not sure there are any originals. But there's a guy called "Crunchy Crystals." Uh, sorry about the 60 Hz hum in there, apparently my ground wire came loose.
New Trolls - Night on the Bare Mountain ubangistump 2010-12-05 | Funky, hilarious prog lunacy. Sound like the opening theme to some futuristic sport played in zero gravity and the ball is covered in spikes. I used to play this on the radio when I got sick of people requesting "Hocus Pocus."
Terry Stamp - Itchy Feet ubangistump 2010-11-14 | From his "Fatsticks" album, 1975. Ollie Halsall on guitar. Originally a rough take with guide vocals (Terry shouts out "BRIDGE!" right before the bridge and so on), they slapped it on the album and I love it. Especially when the lead break comes in and the song takes the fuck off!
Scorpion (Sweden) - Hey Girl Im Ugly ubangistump 2010-05-07 | Swedish band, released in 1970 I think? Produced by Kim Fowley. This song is awesome.
Lobby Loyde - Evolution (1971) ubangistump 2010-03-20 | From his Lobby Loyde Plays George Guitar album, pre-Coloured Balls. And it sounds like it, a kind of uneasy oil-and-water mix of blazing distorto-blues and lysergic muckin' about that wouldn't quite mature until "Ball Power." But there are a couple of choice nuggets on this album, and this is one of them.
Muszak - Writing Letters To Nowhere ubangistump 2010-03-20 | Milesago says "Muszak - Writing Letters to Nowhere (Reflection HRS 3002) A Melbourne group, Ringwood to be precise, that has come to the attention of collectors thanks to this super rare single only track. They also contributed some music for a stageshow, "Cult". An LP of the show was released, also on the Reflection label, but the Muszak tracks are reputedly very bland soft rock similar to the flipside of this killer." And yeah, it's a killer. Taken from the highly recommended "Datura Dreamtime" compilation of Aussie psychedelic pop and rock.

The Touch - Not So Fine (1968, pre-Hunger) ubangistump 2010-03-13 | On the Public! label, apparently. That's about as much as I know, other than that this song turned up on "Strictly From Hunger," in a heavier version. I actually kinda like this one more, got that cold concrete garage floor sound, and then when the guitars start scraping at you on the "chorus" ("ohhh yeahh-ahhhh") you can feel the heaviness waiting to break loose. But it didn't quite, here.
The Down & Out - Ill Wait and See (1965) ubangistump 2010-03-13 | If I'm reading right, this Queensland beat band was recorded for a radio station and never put out any 45s or albums... and remained super-obscure until they were comped on the AWESOME "It's a Kave-In!" release, when they became merely obscure. This song has been stuck in my head for the past six months, now it's your turn! I think it's that sideways Kinks riff that does it...

Nice, urgent (almost frantic), has a kinda freakbeat evolving into psychedelic feel (not unlike the heavier tunes by Bulldog Breed). Someone else has posted this already, I'm just doing another to hopefully have the sound come out a bit louder/clearer. Though you never can tell with Youtube.

There are strings and horns in this song, but it's pretty nice pop with a little bit of psych creeping in.

John Bassman Group - Can You Dig It? ubangistump 2009-11-04 | 1970 Dutch (or German band that formed in the Netherlands?) psych rock. Heavy but light, do you know what I am saying? Male vocals on this song, the other excellent song on the album ("His Name Was Tom") has female vox.
Ning - Machine (1971) ubangistump 2009-11-04 | "A four-piece from Coventry. They played soul-rock and had a very energetic stage act. Their 45 was oriental with heavy overtones, although the 'B' side sounds like a psychedelic Gary Glitter!. It's said that they played seven nights a week beneath a cafe 'cos they had problems getting gigs. They also refused to give interviews or to give Decca any details with which to concoct a biography for fear of being predictable." Yeah, I have no idea what the reviewer was talking about, either, but this is a nice, grinding little number full of fuzzed out guitar and with a caveman-glam stomp beat.

This song is stone-cold classic in my opinion, but the rest of the album ranges from good to blecch, but is delightfully amateurish throughout.
