Project Pug - Part 1: Fitting a Coreless Motor with DCC Control
updated
We also explore the controversial side of pre-pack administrations, where a business can continue operating in a very similar form while many creditors are left unpaid. Along the way we discuss stock valuations, directors loans, HMRC debts and the challenges faced by specialist electronics suppliers during and after the pandemic. As always, I’d be very interested to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

would you run this on your model railway?
#modeltrains #modelrailroad #diy
With a track gauge of just 3mm and a scale of around 1:450, this is the smallest commercially available model railway in the world. But the big question is… does it actually work?
I bought a T Gauge starter set to find out, and in this video I’ll show you exactly what you get, how it runs, and whether it’s a practical option for building a layout. We’ll take a look at the track system, rolling stock, costs, and some of the surprising engineering that makes something this tiny even possible. I’ll also show you how I powered it using a simple DIY controller.

I finally finish a project I began two years ago after being inspired by the brilliant @shedmouthjunction and their Wibbly Wobbly Wagon Challenge. What was meant to be a bit of fun quickly escalated. A huge thank you to Martin and Evie at Shedmouth Junction for inspiring this build — go and check out their channel and have a go at the challenge yourself!

At the 2025 Great Electric Train Show, I volunteered for a full afternoon operating Making Tracks — Pete Waterman’s award-winning model railway. Rather than just filming the layout from the public side, this time I signed up for a four-hour shift as part of the operating team to experience the show from behind the scenes.
I also catch up with Pete Waterman to hear how he felt the weekend went — and to find out what he thought of my driving.

Inside the building are historic steam and diesel locomotives, unique rolling stock, engineering vehicles and pieces of railway history that simply don’t exist anywhere else. This museum-in-progress is being created by Locomotive Storage Ltd, who have restored and upgraded the vast factory space specifically to house these giants of British rail.
Hornby still work in the same building, and even put on a small exhibition of their models and brands for the occasion, giving the event a perfect link between the full-size railway and the miniature world we love.

Wonder no more — in this video, I’ll show you how I built a DIY model railway speed trap using an Arduino Nano, IR sensors, and an LCD display to measure the exact scale speed of passing locomotives.
It’s a fun, easy-to-build project for any model railway enthusiast — no matter what scale you run. Not only does it help you set realistic speed curves on DCC decoders, it’s also great fun for testing how fast your trains really go!
Along the way, I’ll explain how the system works, show you the full build step-by-step, and even run a few speed tests with some of my favourite locomotives. If you enjoy the video, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and comment your best speed guess!

Back in 2022 I covered Canns Models Limited, a website run by Adam Cann that took payments for model railway items that almost certainly didn’t exist. Now, several viewers have contacted me about a new seller called Gramps Turner, operating through eBay and a pop-up website… and the pattern feels almost identical.
⚠️ Scam Safety Tips (Covered in the Video)
• Never buy outside eBay or follow off-platform links
• Check what a seller has actually sold, not just their feedback score
• Be wary of prices that seem too good to be true
• Verify websites (domain age, address, reviews)
• Always pay by card or PayPal (NOT bank transfer)
• Report suspicious accounts to eBay and Action Fraud
📩 Have you been impacted?
Feel free to comment below or email me privately. You’re not alone — and getting caught out doesn’t mean you’re stupid. These scams are increasingly sophisticated.
