HiFi Rush was a great surprise this year. I love Hack & Slash games and Rock music so... here's this! - This video doesn't cover the workflow in detail because I've essentially followed the same steps described in my previous videos (TLDW imported low-poly models, posed, used modifiers to turn normal maps into geometry and cleaned up the models to 3D print. Here are some links to videos covering this workflow: youtu.be/--b2XXEXeBs youtu.be/Dv8nYpvJi4U youtu.be/KlsHhOesofE

I've been very busy recently, but I found some time to play #re4remake and work on this scale figure.

Anyway, I loved #re4 Remake. It may be my favourite game of all time now, considering the original was already in my top 5.
One thing I did in this project that wasn't covered in previous videos: - Used circle curves and path curves to create the blades of grassMaking a Switch/Phone Stand Based on Medjed [Timelapse]Medjed Makes2022-12-24 | ...How I 3D Print Splatoon CharactersMedjed Makes2022-12-12 | This is a quick workflow overview. Some Blender/3D printing experience is recommended. I used Splatoon 2 models for this demonstration, but I reckon the process would be very similar for models from Splatoon 1 and 3. Check out my other 3D modeling/printing videos. - Link to all the models: models-resource.com/search/?q=splatoon&c=-1&o%5B%5D=g - Extra tips (WIP):
Alpha clip: The default mode "alpha blend" makes these models semitransparent and hard to work with on Material Preview mode. Alpha clip fixes that.
Flat shading: You can do it for all objects at once by selecting all objects with the "a" key on your keyboard, then using the drop-down menu or search box to "shade flat". It's important to use is because then you can actually see the polygons that will be printed irl.
Mesh clean-up: After joining objects, go on edit mode and select the whole mesh by clicking the "a" key on your keyboard, then use the drop-down menu or search box to "merge by distance", "delete loose" and "fill holes". This will remove duplicate faces and small gaps. If you don't do this, the modifiers will make the gaps bigger. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Modifiers:
-Armature: This modifier comes with the .fbx. It determines what armature controls the mesh. After you join armatures you need to update the 'object' field in this modifier by selecting the new armature.
-Subdivision: Adds more polygons to the mesh and therefore allows for more detailed displacement. 'Catmull-Clark' makes the geometry more round and gets rid of the polygonal look. 'Simple' just subdivides the existing faces. Don't subdivide too much because it will cause Blender to slow down and at a certain point it doesn't really make a difference in the print.
-Displace: This modifier can read the object's normal map and transfer the detail to the geometry (using UV coordinates). Adjust the strength (and the Subdivision modifier) to control the level of detail.
[You can toggle the display of the modifiers, you don't need to apply them until you are ready to sculpt and finalize the object].
-Remesh: This creates a new mesh based on the selected object. This modifier is a great finishing touch to get rid of any holes or weird topology. You can choose the level of detail you want your new mesh to have, so it can also be a way to reduce the file size if. For this print I used the 'Voxel' option with size 0.051
-Boolean: This modifier allows you to do boolean operations such as subtract one object from another. In this case I used a cube to make the bottom of my model flat.

Alpha clip: Renders textures with transparency. (e.g. edges of the hair, where the geometry is larger than the texture)
Flat shading: You can do it for all objects at once by selecting everything with the A key and going in the object menu - shade flat. It's important to use is because then you can actually see the polygons that will be printed irl.
Joining and Separating objects: That is something you have to keep in mind and consider what is going to be more convenient to print. Some bust prints can be printed as a single object.
Merging by distance: After joining objects, merge by distance to get rid of duplicate faces and redundancy. Otherwise this will cause problems with the modifiers. Therefore it's good practice to apply merge by distance on every mesh. Some of the other clean up options may be useful too.
Posing: When you extract the model it usually works right away. Some bone positions and orientations may be weird though.
Modifiers:
-Solidify: Many of the details in the models are textures on 2d planes, use the solidify modifier to turn them into 3d geometry. The 'ideal' thickness depends you your print size, layer height, etc.
-Subdivision: Adds more polygons to the mesh and therefore allows for more detailed displacement. 'Catmull-Clark' makes the geometry more round and gets rid of the polygonal look. 'Simple' just subdivides the existing faces (you can still make it smoother on Sculpting later). Both are useful in different occasions. Don't subdivide too much because it will cause Blender to slow down and at a certain point it doesn't really make a difference in the print.
-Displace: The most important step, use this modifier to load the object's normal map and transfer the detail to the geometry (using UV coordinates).Adjust the strength (and the subdivision modifier) to control the level of detail.
[You can toggle the display of the modifiers, you don't need to apply them until you are ready to sculpt and finalize the object].
-Remesh: Sometimes the mesh looks good on blender but your slicer will show some jank, remeshing usually fixes that and is also a way to just reduce the file size by removing some polygons. It's good practice to do it before exporting the model. There are multiple methods and parameters, 'ideal' choices depend on the situation.
-Boolean: It's very important to check if the objects you want to print separately (then glue together irl) don't overlap, if they do, apply a boolean subtraction in one of them. (remeshing first may help).
