The Satanic Temple shuts down City of Bostons Pray-For-Pay scheme The Satanic Temple 2022-08-29 | Under oath, a Boston official disclosed that council members used city funds to pay “personal contacts" to deliver prayers at meetings until an invocation request from The Satanic Temple persuaded them to stop Salem, MA – Christine O'Donnell, Boston City Council Compliance Director and Staff Counsel, was deposed on Thursday, August 26, in a lawsuit initiated by The Satanic Temple. The Satanic Temple claims that the Boston City Council has violated the Constitution by refusing to allowthe religious organization the opportunity to deliver an invocation prior to council meetings even though other religious organizations have been invited. O'Donnell testified that the City of Boston allowed city council members to use city funds to pay their "personal contacts" to deliver prayers before city council meetings. According to O'Donnell,The Satanic Temple's (TST) request to deliver an invocation prompted the city to end what Lucien Greaves, TST's co-founder, asserts is an "unconstitutional pray-for-pay scheme." Despite this, the city maintains its invitation-only policy for public city council meeting prayers, which TST argues is discriminatory.According to Greaves, "Boston has maintained that the forum for religious prayers preceding city council meetings is only available to people with personal relationships to council members. After School Satan Clubs coming to public schools The Satanic Temple 2016-07-30 | The Satanic Temple (TST) has announced that this coming school year (2016) will find their organization operating in elementary schools across the nation where they will be offering their new After School Satan Club program to students. While the presence of a religious organization in public schools will no doubt be shocking to some, evangelical litigants -- primarily the Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) represented by lawyers from the Liberty Counsel -- have solidly established the legal rights of religious organizations to operate clubs in public schools.
