Passage of Time
This is a last minute announcement but I'd like to invite you to read tales and poems by Edgar Allan Poe with me the last week (from 23rd) October to get into the Halloween spirit. It's short notice but the only expectation is to read one tale or one poem.

Historathon is a year-long celebration of reading historical nonfiction created by Vin @revenantreads. The goal is to read, discuss, and spotlight works of history, and to encourage reluctant readers to give history a try. The calendar year will be divided into quarters, with each block focusing on a particular period of time:
Q1 Jan-March = Prehistory-500 CE
Q2 April-June = 500-1500
Q3 July-Sept = 1500-1820
Q4 Oct-Dec = 1820-Present
To participate, simply read a work of history that falls into the time period for each quarterly segment of the year. Read more if you’d like! Tailor the choices to your interests or try something completely new.
Want to join in on the conversations? We have two groups going in Voxer and Discord:
You can join us on Voxer by contacting one of the cohosts and we can add you to the group. You can contact me at epries544

My passion for history doesn't normally extend to periods beyond the middle ages.... except when it comes to the study of witch hunts and hysteria in the West. Here are some book recommendations concerning these topics if you're interested in learning more.

Here are some of my favourite prehistory books. They are geared towards general audiences and you don't need to know a thing about palaeoanthropology, archaeology or extinct humans before reading these, as the authors do a great job of explaining things simply.
Archaeology and prehistory in general are not easily accessible as books on other periods of history, so I hope these books spark some interest.

I need to elaborate that when I discuss William the Conqueror, he wasn't an Angevin but Norman. The descendents of the Conqueror wouldn't be known as Angevins until Henry II (who's father was the count of Anjou, hence the name) is begrudgingly declared heir of England following a long civil war. The basis of what I was saying is still true in that the Angevins (Plantagenets) were kings but also vassals of the King of France through their holdings of duchies like Normandy, among others, creating the bitter, complex power struggle between the two kingdoms that lasted centuries.
