Known for pairing symphonies, the composer crafted this lighthearted work alongside his grand Symphony No. 7. Symphony No. 8 is unique for its unconventional form and use of only major modes. Highlights include a brisk Allegretto scherzando, parodying the metronome, and a minuet in place of a scherzo led by trumpet and drum. The DSO first performed this symphony in 1920, conducted by Victor Kolar. Recorded live in Orchestra Hall, May 6, 2023.
