Riot Games just dropped the details for LPL Split 3 on their Weibo account and they said FORGET YOUR FRANCHISING GUARANTEES…
Split 3 will continue the multi-tiered Group Stage Format that we saw in the first 2 splits, with 5 home venue events in 5 major Chinese cities.
Group Ascend has the top 8 teams from Split 2 while Group Nirvana has the 4 teams who lost their Knight’s Rivals matches to miss out on the Split 2 Playoff Bracket…
The crazy thing though, is that Riot has straight up eliminated 2 of their 14 partner teams to cut the numbers down to 12. Ultra Prime and OMG were the bottom of Group Nirvana last split and they wont even get to taste LPL competition in the second half of the year…
After both groups play a double round robin with Best of 3 matches, the bottom 2 Nirvana teams will be eliminated, the top 6 Ascend teams will be seeded into the Playoff Upper Bracket, and the remaining 4 will duke it out in Knights Rivals for the final 2 playoff spots.
As the final push for Worlds gets closer, the most cutthroat region in the LoL Esports world is looking like must-watch TV.
