Jason Loyer of Loyer Farms gives us a detailed tour of “Tax Exempt,” the family’s beautifully restored 1989 Mack Superliner II, at the 2026 Smoky Mountain Big Rig Showdown in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
Jason and his family spent approximately two and a half years transforming the former dump truck back into a tractor. The build features a custom Valley Chrome bumper, metallic red and charcoal paint inspired by a Mack Superliner their father owned years ago, a handcrafted wood floor, custom fuel tanks, polished aluminum, six-inch exhaust stacks, the original Mack engine and transmission, and countless period-correct details.
Because replacement parts for these older Mack trucks are not always available, the Loyer Farms team had to find, fabricate, restore, or custom-build many of the components. The truck was completed just in time for the 2026 Mid-America Trucking Show and will eventually return to work pulling a hopper trailer—although it may be reserved for fair-weather duty.
Jason also talks about the family members, friends, painters, polishers, fabricators, and parts specialists who helped bring “Tax Exempt” back to life.
