1 BOLT Becomes SWORD - CLOUDBUSTER With Sapphires & Emeralds BrainfooTV 2020-10-30 | Sorry but website with templates and plans is now down thanks to hackers and running costs.In this project I make the famous Cloudbuster sword from the Final Fantasy games with an angle grinder, drill and hand tools. To make this a REAL miniature sword I used high tensile bolts because of the high carbon content which can be re-hardened afterwards. The bolts were M16 x 120mm.After cutting the blade and handle section I cut the Gem detailed holders separately so they could be riveted together with 1mm panel pin nails.A cut section of extendable aerial holds in place the 2 Sapphires and 2 Emeralds that make up the Materia embedded in the blade of the Cloudbuster sword. For something of this quality it was not an expensive build.The blade was hardened in oil by using 4 small food torches. I tried to harden just the blade or blade edge but not the rest of the steel. This was almost successful. 80% of the blade edge was hard, but the very centre and the tip were slightly softer than I would have liked. In the video you can see they are not quite hot enough in those places. NOW THIS IS A KNIFE - One Knife to Rule them ALL BrainfooTV 2020-07-10 | Sorry but website with templates and plans is now down thanks to hackers and running costs.In this project we make a beautiful little solid gold knife from unwanted scrap gold. The blade is 9ct gold, the handle is 24ct gold that is pinned together with 9ct white gold pins. The gold is cast into a graphite mould. The first one is too small so I use a Dremel and a cheap X-Y table to mill it out to a custom size. I did it like this because I wanted to try it :-)In the second casting I add Borax to final clean the gold so I can cast it with the least impurities as possible. Then quench in an effort to stop the gold softening.Sharpening this knife was difficult I wont lie. I eventually got it sharp enough to shave hair (just) but it goes blunt very fast because gold is a soft metal. It will cut paper, but this damages the blade faster than hair and makes the blade hard to sharpen again.

Iron Man RING from a NUT BrainfooTV 2020-05-01 | Sorry but website with templates and plans is now down thanks to hackers and running costs.In this project we build an Iron Man ring from a 60mm Stainless steel connection nut, although only 30mm was used and the final length was 27mm. I used M20 (metric 20mm) because that's the size of the finger I wanted it for once the threads are removed with a Carbide burr and a Dremel. If you are new to working in metal Stainless steel is quite hard, but Brass would be a better choice if you can find it.Most of the geometry was cut with an angle grinder and a thin cutting blade (I always wear a mask and full protective face guard). RAMBO Build & FIRE STARTER - From High Carbon Bolt BrainfooTV 2020-02-14 | Sorry but website with templates and plans is now down thanks to hackers and running costs.Rambo and Sylvester Stallone are movie icons. In this video we make a miniature version of the famous classic Rambo survival knife in high carbon steel.First I take a high tensile steel bold and soften the steel with a gas torch. I save gas and heat it quicker in a miniature firebrick forge. I could have skipped this but it makes the steel softer to sand and file.The 16mm bolt is made to fit a standard 13mm drill chuck by removing the threads, this means I can use the drill as a lathe to make vertical cuts. A 3mm tap is then added to the 2.5mm hole.After cutting, grinding and sanding I harden the blade by heating it back up and quenching it in oil. It is now very very hard and a file just skates off, but slightly brittle. As I will be hitting the edge of the blade, I anneal the steel in an electric oven for 2 to 3 hours.Many coats of metal 'blue' are added and I use a knife sharpener to reveal and sharpen the two edges of the blade, just like the movie version.Finally a ferro rod it filed to the correct size in the drill and added inside the handle of Rambo's knife. This is capped with a M3 hex nut with the corners removed. The springs not large enough to cause any real damage and the trigger teeth are not sharp. This project took me a few attempts to get 100% right. It took 5 versions so this keychain trap is fun, safe, and easy to build. It requires no power tools at all and can be built from scrap, apart from the spring, which can be bought from eBay or made at home with piano or spring wire very cheaply. A Dolls house sized matchbox with matches that actually work. This build is for entertainment only, do not copy at home.First I make a simple box shape (form) from large lollipop sticks or tongue depressors, then cover it with sticky tape so that superglue does not want to stick. Then I build the drawer around the form and pop it out. The answer is yes, an in real life it feels and looks beautiful. Even if it is a little hard to sharpen :-)To make the pencil I filed down 8mm aluminium tube with an internal hole of just over 3mm. After burning off the case from a 3mm cored artists pencil, I mixed some clear casting epoxy with the coarse and fine filings saved from the filling & sanding process.In the UK I used Easy Composites resin (not affiliated in any way) This was sucked up the aluminum tube and plugged off with the graphite pencil core in place. All thats needed is a small amount of casting resin, some dye (optional) and good quality glow powder.A high quality glow in the dark powder from eBay or Amazon like strontium aluminate should give you up to 12 hours of glow with Aqua colour, and up to 20 hours with a green glow pigment. That is enough glow to softly illuminate a dark room gently for many hours.I found the cubes are best charged up as close to a lamp build in the evenings, but a source of UV like a UV torch works really fast. I decided to go as low cost, easy, and crucially as annoying as possible - this is the result. Measured at over 110dB, this mini horn is really really loud and shrill. The most annoying version is the 8mm equal tee, but it's easy to scale up to most common plumbing sizes that support washers or reducers.
