Hella Basque | Life in the Basque Diaspora: From Basque Country to San Francisco @HellaBasque | Uploaded April 2021 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
The Euskara program at the University of Helsinki invited my father and I to sit down for a Zoom question and answer session. We discussed many interesting topics: my father's journey from the Basque Country to immigrating to the United States, life as a sheepherder in rural Montana, how the Basque diaspora maintains Basque culture in the United States, Basque identity, and thoughts on Euskara Batua from the perspectives of a Basque language learner and a native Basque speaker.
Organized by Kayleigh Karinen and Araitz Claramunt Oregi, this session took place on March 22, 2021 between San Francisco, California and Helsinki, Finland.
