Marvin HamlischRemembering Marvin Hamlisch: Interviewer: In your program you include "Overture to A Chorus Line" - but the Broadway Musical A Chorus Line does not have an overture. Can you explain?
Marvin: "When I was growing up there was this show called Gypsy, and Gypsy had this great overture, I always considered to be the best overture, and when I was writing A Chorus Line I was hoping to write an overture that we will use for the show. Well, I wrote the overture but we never used it because we didn't think it was right to have an overture in front of a show that supposedly takes place at an audition. So I like to include that overture in the program.

“Mr. Hamlisch and Mr. Kleban created a score that was intelligent, graceful, sparkling and fun, but it was also exciting, complex and dazzling as illustrated by the final number, ‘One.’ For our Spanish production I decided the song would be performed in the language in which it had been penned, so that the public could savor it as it had originally been composed and the whole theater would be transformed into a tunnel to transport us elsewhere, to a mythical place called Broadway.” - Antonio Banderas

Understatedly elegant and refined, soft-spoken and brilliant, Marvin Hamlisch, much like the equally-beloved Leonard Bernstein, earns the revered accolade and rich tapestry underlying the Yiddish word "MENSCH." And like the cheers that erupted recently in the Control Room of the Pasadena Jet Propulsion Laboratory from ebullient engineers who landed NASA's Curiosity on Mars, so too, the whole world will pump its fists in the air, and whoop, and holler, and weep every time the genius of Marvelous Hamlisch embraces our tender hearts and souls. Rest well, Marvin." Sincerely, Louise Blandon. (Aug 6, 2012)Song: The Music in my mind - The Music of Marvin HamlischMarvin Hamlisch2017-04-20 | Song for kids to learn.
