These 3D Printed Saw Horse Brackets Have INCREDIBLE Strength! I was certainly impressed. Sanford Prime 2025-05-29 | This is one of those things I've been thinking about doing for a while as I watched my old sawhorses fade away to a rotten mess. I printed these ones from PLA material, so I don't plan on them lasting forever. I'll do some permanent ones later on from a different material if the plastic on these ones don't last.This actually did start as a 'why not' type of project, I really needed sawhorses and would rather spend days printing some brackets than just buying them. Besides, I was curious at how strong they'd be and there was only one way to find out...From the moment I've had these put together in the garage, they've gained all the attention, everyone wants a set. I love the fact that they are customizable as far as color and filament material. The way these turned out I feel they could be used in a studio or something, they're awesome!Not to mention the fact that they withheld all the weight I put on them! I can't speak for durability over time... only time will tell, they're basically brand new right now but I have used them multiple times for other projects.They store EASY, these are folding, right!Also, keep in mind that they are 3D printed. I used an Ender 3 for these, other printers with different materials and print settings could be much different strengths (either weaker or stronger). Keep that in mind if you decide to print them, there's no guarantee for strength. All I can vouch for is what loading mine were good for. This is even-ground, non-shock, evenly distributed loading. Shot-Glass Roulette - 3D Printable! | Turning a Party Game into an Engineering Project. DIY! Sanford Prime 2025-04-17 | Why not, right? I mean is there a better video description? OK, I'll try...This actually did start as a 'why not' type of project, using the stepping stones of the 'Airsoft Bearing' and the 'Fidget Spinner' from some of my previous videos. It kind of just summarizes the whole process of the design, printing, assembly, and testing of the finished design.I'd like to hear what you're ideas are for some game rules. Have you played this before? What fluids, or candy, or whatever else have you used in the shot-cups? I'd really like to know in the comments!My simple family setup for using this was a sour candy in one and the rest were normal candy. Then the object was to guess who got the sour one (if any of the players did). This could be played with anywhere from 1 to 6 players, so it could occur that the sour one was not consumed!There is also an aspect of iterative design to the video, you can see the issues that occur and the changes that result from the issues to help with overall use of the design. I Blasted my 3D Printed Fidget Spinner with High Pressure Air - High Speed 3D Print Testing Sanford Prime 2025-03-12 | You've seen the video already where I created these fidget spinners, right? Well it was the only logical progression from the ball bearing I designed and printed which used airsoft BB's for the bearing balls versus 3D printed balls. Designing & 3D Printing Ball Bearings and Fidget Spinners Sanford Prime 2025-02-01 | This is a much longer video than I originally anticipated. I believe it was well warranted though to see the whole progression of design. You get to see the 'behind the scenes' of the models, the steps involved in designing and assembly, the mishaps I had along the way, and the final product which worked surprisingly well!Yeah, I may have cheated a little. This 3D-Printed Nut Collector Makes Gathering Nuts Effortless Sanford Prime 2024-10-21 | Sometimes I design for fun, sometimes for necessity. This one is kind of in-between. I didn't need it, but for some reason always wanted one. It's something that simply makes everything a little more enjoyable knowing that 3D printing is going to good use.Every few years the oak trees in my area bombard the yard with acorns. I mean LOTS of acorns! They're slamming on the roof and deck at all hours, and they're loud! They accumulate in the yard and the dog has been trying to eat them and I'm sure they're not good for the lawnmower either...I've seen these nut collectors in the stores before, just never bought one and dealt with the nutty mess in the yard. Ultimate Shooting Precision: Design, 3D Print, Assembly & Shooting Test Sanford Prime 2024-06-07 | Sometimes I design for fun, sometimes for necessity. This one is kind of in-between. I didn't need it, it was fun, but it's something that simply makes everything a little more enjoyable knowing that 3D printing is going to good use.I wanted a bench rest for shooting at the range but didn’t have one. So, I printed one exactly how I thought it should be, using a 3D printer and some design software. The concept was based on some other designs that were researched ahead of time but they all came with a huge cost, which I didn't want to put forward. 3D printed screws were used (I’m proud of that), it seems like ever since I learned about 3D printing threads they've been in almost every design. This is one of the coolest 3D models/assemblies I’ve printed on my home printer. Unleashing the Power of 3D Printing: A Functional Telescoping Sword Right From the Print Bed! Sanford Prime 2024-05-05 | This is a quick video showing my second design with Print-in-Place modeling. Well, if you count all the sizes here I guess it's my 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th designs. Yeah that's right, each of the 4 has a different number of telescoping sections making them all sorts of lengths. These swords won't cut anything, they're made from plastic duh... It's just simply amazing to me that I can load up the printer with items that are fully functional assemblies immediately once the prints are removed from the build plate! These telescoping swords are sure to impress anyone the moment you show them. From Filament to Fully Functional: Print-in-Place Butterfly Knife! Sanford Prime 2024-04-12 | This is a quick video showing my first design with Print-in-Place modeling. Desk Transformation! Using 3D Printing & Design Sanford Prime 2024-02-02 | Sometimes I design for fun, sometimes for necessity. This is one of those necessity ones.I wanted a vertical monitor but didn’t have one. So, I adapted a purely landscape monitor to be portrait style using a 3D printer and some design software. The concept was based on some other 3D models I’ve done to hold my cell phone for photography, I basically just had to scale everything up by a HUGE factor and add some other design elements. Lot’s of 3D printed screws were used (I’m proud of that). By far, this is the largest 3D model/assembly I’ve printed on my home printer. Differential Motion - A 3D Printed Example Sanford Prime 2023-11-26 | This is a good demonstration of something that's been in my head for a long time, but up until the technology of 3D printing, it hasn't really been all to possible to for me to make on a budget. The time has come!I first saw this in a chapter of an 'Ingenious Mechanisms' book set. If you haven't paged through these books I recommend you do so. There are so many ideas for many mechanical solutions of design work. It definitely gets the gears spinning!This video goes into detail of the assembly, once 3D printed. It also gives a demonstration of the concept (now reality) itself. To be honest, it kind of hurt my engineering brain seeing it in action. But, hey I guess it's a real thing, LOL!Overall, this is a neat mechanical 'trick' that can be downloaded and printed basically for free! I'm honestly not sure how many people are interested in this kind of thing, but if you are I hope this video details what is going on.If you do decide to download and print both or just one, it may make a decent handheld clamp for other projects. My Most Dangerous 3D Print so Far... A Bear Trap! Sanford Prime 2023-08-02 | Well, the title says it all, I modeled up a 3D printable BEAR TRAP just to see if I could. Everything on it is 3D printed, there are no sourced components or steel fasteners, it is literally print & snap together as the video shows.Why would I do this? I guess JUST to satisfy my curiosity of whether it could be done or not... what other reason do I need? I may have overcomplicated a few things, and I would never use this to try and trap a real bear... well, obviously. Although, this assembly IS pretty STRONG and SCARY when it actuates. Go ahead, print one for yourself and see if YOU want to actuate it by hand... but seriously though, it seems like it would hurt even though it's just some toy plastic.If you don't need a bear trap, this thing makes a pretty fun fidget toy, JK! (or) Set it on your desk and wait for someone passing by to get curious and start playing with all your printed toys on display (LOL, we all know someone like that).I am very satisfied with the coil springs made from PLA, the whole thing is made from PLA by the way on my circa 1986 printer. Anyway, the springs get the gears turning for more fun projects and designs (see what I did there?). Finally... A 3D Print Worthy of the Toolbox! Sanford Prime 2023-06-12 | Well, the title says it all, I modeled up a 3D print I will keep in my toolbox right next to the other ratchets. This video shows its worthiness, a fully capable reversible 3D printed ratchet!I printed mine from PLA, because it's easy and I haven't had much good luck with ABS, nor have I bought any PETG... yeah, I'm working with an older model printer. Worst case scenario it breaks, and I would just reprint another from a bio-sourced and biodegradable PLA.This ratchet accepts different standard screwdriver bits and uses a magnet to hold the bit in place. There are many adapters, like the one I used, to switch over to sockets which as you can see worked pretty well.If you don't need a ratchet, this thing makes a pretty fun fidget toy! Minecraft 5 Minute 3D Print! Sanford Prime 2023-05-19 | I was requested to do a print from Minecraft recently... Challenge Accepted!This is a video about the inspiration and creation of a great addition to your child's nightstand (or yours) to keep the mobs from spawning nearby.Best of all there is no wiring necessary! Simply insert a button-back flashlight into the torch and press down on the top to turn it on and off. Easy peasy... and safe too!Don't take my word for it though, you can find out how well it works for yourself by jumping over to Printables or Thingiverse (I won't judge...) and downloading the Torch model to print Totally for FREE! (the internet is amazing)There are only two printed pieces that can be done without supports. Pick some colors that suit you and have a piece of functional art that is sure to raise attention. Materials I used are described in the video. Transformation of Triangle Tensegrity Sanford Prime 2023-04-30 | It looks like some sort of crime at first, and almost felt like it. Doing this was like the transformation of a caterpillar to a butterfly and I'm glad I attempted it. Obviously, I did a little bit of homework before hand.In this video I show how I converted my 3D printed tensegrity model, using all strings for tension components, into a different mindblowing magnetic tensegrity model! I guess these magnetic conversion parts could work with any tensegrity model though. 3D Printed vs. Store Bought... Koozies! Sanford Prime 2023-04-21 | Just plan ahead a little bit before your next outdoor excursion into the heat or your next sporting event and print one of these! In this segment I felt the need to print a Koozie, well a couple of them LOL! Then I needed to know how well they compared to a few different store bought ones I had laying around, so I compared them, now you don't have to wonder if they actually work! The 4 koozies were tested for 4.5 hours to see which one stood out in keeping a beverage chilled just right, hopefully your done with it before then though.You can find out how well it works for yourself by jumping over to Printables or Thingiverse (I won't judge...) and downloading the koozie models to print for yourself! Everything on them is printed, just pick some colors that suit your style or mood. I previously read online somewhere (probably Google) that PLA material is "Generally Considered Food-Safe" so that's what I used for these.Print multiples and keep a couple on-hand, put one in the camper, the guest house, or keep one at work. I ran these through wind resistance testing in my homemade wind tunnel, scientifically tested ease of insertion and removal of the cans, and best of all tested the insulative properties of each one. Top Mechanical Hand Mixer (3D Printed) Sanford Prime 2023-03-08 | When you find yourself in a tough situation (without forks to mix with) this should do the trick! Just plan ahead a little and print one of these before breakfast and you'll feel more accomplished while eating that omelet! Material for this costs less than about a dozen eggs now-days... I was having trouble finding one for a reasonable price, so it was time to hop on CAD and make my own. Everyone asks me where I got it... to which I reply... "Do you know who I am?" lolYou can find out how well it works for yourself by jumping over to Printables or Thingiverse (I won't judge...) and downloading all parts to the model yourself! Everything on it is printed, just pick some colors that suit your style. I previously read online somewhere (probably Google) that PLA material is "Generally Considered Food-Safe" so that's good enough for me.If you're worried about contamination or cleaning, just throw the beater ends away and print new ones. Change them daily if you want, to whatever suits your mood for that day!Right Handed or Left Handed, it doesn't matter, this thing is ambidextrous. Print multiples and keep a couple on-hand, put one in the camper, the guest house, or keep one at work. The gear mechanism is pretty cool, lots of future possibilities for this frame. Best Rubber Band Gun!!! 3D Printed Sanford Prime 2023-02-13 | A dive into the past, we all had one in our younger years... well most of us anyways. You'd be lucky to find one in between all the NERF stuff in the isles today. I was having trouble finding one, so it was time to hop on CAD and make my own. This thing's a blast! AND a blast from the past!Surprisingly accurate! You can find out how accurate it is by jumping over to Printables or Thingiverse (I won't judge...) and downloading the model yourself! All parts are printed, except the rubber bands, obviously. I was able to find these at the local Harbor Freight for something like 2 or 3 bucks... Hours of Fun!Right Handed or Left Handed, it doesn't matter, this thing is ambidextrous. Print multiples and have competitions, or I guess you could just print one and practice up for any carnival games you may be attending soon. I have some plans of making add-ons to dazzle and give more appeal to different styles, check back often to the model sites. Don't know if these upgrades will be video worthy, well maybe a short?
