Between walking 400km, earning 400 buddy hearts, and completing 500 field research tasks, every single requirement pushed my limits both in-game and in real life. From Oregon to Nagasaki, this was a global journey of endurance, persistence, and passion for the game.
The Level 78 tasks take everything you’ve learned in Pokémon GO and multiply it by ten. The 400km adventure requirement alone is one of the most intense physical challenges in the Level 70–80 range. Add in hundreds of field research tasks and the patience it takes to earn 400 buddy hearts, and you’ve got one of the most demanding grinds Niantic has ever released.
In this video, I break down my entire Level 78 experience — the highs, the struggles, and the strategies that helped me push through when I almost gave up.
✈️ From Oregon to Nagasaki:
I started this journey in Oregon, walking through my usual routes, but quickly realized that to hit 400km efficiently, I needed something bigger. That’s when I decided to fly to Japan for the Nagasaki GO Wild Area event, which became the turning point of this level. Exploring Japan’s scenic routes, Pokémon-rich parks, and event-exclusive spawns gave me both the distance and the motivation to keep going.
🚶♂️ The 400km Challenge:
This was the toughest part of Level 78. I’ll share my best strategies for distance tracking, including how to combine walking, biking, and Adventure Sync optimization using Google Fit. I also share how I managed my pace daily to stay consistent without burning out.
💗 Earning 400 Buddy Hearts:
The buddy heart requirement might sound simple, but it takes consistent play across multiple days. I’ll explain how to stack hearts efficiently using AR mode, feeding, battling, and route walks — plus how to switch buddies at the right time to save progress.
🔍 500 Field Research Tasks:
This one’s all about planning. I share how I found efficient PokéStop loops, used fast tasks like “Catch 5 Pokémon” or “Use 3 Berries,” and took advantage of event days to farm dozens of research tasks quickly.
🎯 The Final Push:
After days of walking, flying, and grinding, I finally saw that Level 78 unlock — and it was one of the most satisfying achievements in my Pokémon GO career.
