I love The Binding of Isaac. I state this as a preface to my followup: I'm not really that big on roguelikes. I just prefer the more typical style of game, with a crafted and deliberately-designed world for you to explore and replay value is offered in other ways. Memorable setpieces and moments within, that sorta thing, rather than random/procedural design. If anything I think Binding of Isaac taught me this, for as much as I enjoyed that game, I didn't think I would enjoy that structure often, much less in a metroidvania.
What? Vampire Survivors is a roguelike? Well yeah, but it's also such a unique style of game and fun and addicting as hell so who cares.
Anyway, Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is being developed by Evil Empire with Motion Twin in an advisory role. Their past works include... Dead Cells, by Motion Twin and later Evil Empire; Windblown, by Motion Twin; and Rogue Prince of Persia, by Evil Empire. I'm not exactly versed in Prince of Persia, and Windblown, while neat-looking, isn't quite my style, isn't a metroidvania, and is still in Early Access.
So I decided to try out Dead Cells after all! It was on my radar before because of the Return to Castlevania DLC anyway, I was just hesitant because of it being a "roguevania," as the studio itself called it. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it, but as you can see by this runtime, I must've enjoyed it, yeah? Just now I wish Belmont's Curse had gorgeous pixel art like this instead, but alas, I shall continue to look forward to it.
