Ender Lilies | A Modern Metroidvania Masterpiece | REVIEW (Switch, PS4, PC, XBOX) Import Gaming FTW 2024-01-20 | REVIEW: Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is a fantastic exploration platformer, or "Metroidvania," from Japanese developers Adglobe and Live Wire and publisher Binary Haze Interactive. This is a full, in-depth and minimal story spoiler review of the game, which was originally released in 2021, but just got a physical release on Switch and PS4 courtesy of Clear River Games. It’s a solid dark fantasy side-scrolling action RPG that fans of classics like Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, or modern hits like Bloodstained and Hollow Knight should try out. It's a fun game, and while it doesn't have the depth of many similar titles, but I think it's a real work of art, a "modern Metroidvania masterpiece," if you will. And not just visually, but musically with its amazing soundtrack composed and performed by Japanese indie band Mili. It's been nearly 20 years since Ganbare Goemon fans had a new game in Konami's legendary series...so how does this 2023 title, Mameda no Bakeru, stack up as a surrogate to the underrated and sorely missed Goemon series? It was developed by Hudson Soft and RED Company (now Red Entertainment). Tengai Makyou/Far East of Eden is one of the great JRPG series of the 1990s, one which was sadly left in Japan for the most part. The first title, ZIRIA, has an important place in the history of JRPGs, RPGs and gaming in general as it was the very first RPG developed for and published on a CD-ROM disc. It was the first RPG to explore the new possibilities that CDs opened up to gaming, including CD-quality music and voicework, anime-style cinematics and a huge amount of memory to work with.This is the Tengai Makyou/Far East of Eden Retrospective Part 1: ZIRIA, all about the world's first RPG published on CD, one that you might have never played. One part documentary, one part review, this video explores how Hudson Soft and RED Company came together to make this legendary role-playing title for the PC Engine CD-ROM ROM System, its challenging development, the gameplay and story as well as the legacy of this game, the first entry in the Far East of Eden series.In short, this groundbreaking title, released in 1989, paved the way for the more cinematic style of RPG that would rise to popularity in the 1990s by including voice acting and animated cutscenes unlike anything before it. VORG | Naxat Softs Canceled, Forgotten & LOST 16-Bit Super Famciom RTS (1995, SNES) Import Gaming FTW 2022-12-21 | A look at a promising Super Nintendo title from Naxat that was ultimately shelved right before launch and seemingly forgotten about. Souseikishou VORG (創世紀章ヴォーグ) was a 16-bit real-time simulation game from Naxat that had a planned release date of March, 1995 in Japan that you probably have never heard of. What separates this from many other scrapped game titles, however, is that there's barely any information about the game online in English or Japanese, and as of 2022, no ROMs are available on the internet. It seems like it is a truly forgotten game.I found some trailers for the game in a couple of rare "not for sale" Japanese VHS tapes that were intended to generate pre-orders of upcoming software releases. As far as I know, the footage in these tapes are not available publicly anywhere online. Shiryou Sensen: War of the Dead | An Early Survival Horror RPG | REVIEW (1989, PC Engine) Import Gaming FTW 2022-10-30 | REVIEW | Shiryou Sensen: War of the Dead for PC Engine is a remake/reimagining of an MSX title of the same name, a horror action RPG considered by many to be the first survival horror game, even before Sweet Home on the Famicom. Long before Elden Ring, Bloodbourne, Dark Souls and Demon's Souls, and even before Armored Core, Shadow Tower and Echo Night, From Software got its start with King's Field...it's basically the great grandfather of many of the company's popular games, and was quite a revolutionary title for 1994 and on console.IGFTW Ep. 45 is a full review of this original, Japan exclusive KF, talking about gameplay, story and legacy. This game had several interesting demos before its final release, including a very special one called "Hero Hero-kun to Ralph no Daibouken." Alien 2 | Square Made An Aliens Game...TWICE w/Rewind Mike | REVIEW (MSX2, Famicom Disk, 1987) Import Gaming FTW 2020-08-14 | REVIEW: Aliens for the MSX 2 is one of Squaresoft's earliest games, one that was developed and published just before the company went bankrupt and was saved by Hironobu Sakaguchi's Final Fantasy. Based on the movie of the same name (called Alien 2 in Japan), which is one of the great 80s sci-fi action movies, this is one of the few games made in the era based on the franchise, a rare game that was made for the budding microcomputer market in Japan at the time. Another Square-developed game was in the works for the Nintendo Disk System, but it was scrapped shortly before completion, though a prototype was leaked, which @RewindMike talks about in this video (Huge thanks to Mike for his help covering the unreleased Famicom Disk System port! Doctor Hauzer | The Dawn of True 3D Survival Horror...on 3DO? | REVIEW (3DO, 1994) Import Gaming FTW 2018-05-02 | Doctor Hauzer is a 3D adventure title from 1994 on the 3DO from Panasonic and Riverhillsoft. While it takes a lot of influence from the classic 3D survival horror game Alone in the Dark, it has its place in the history of survival horror as the first fully 3D entry in the genre, since character models and backgrounds are fully polygonal and allowed multiple camera angles, 3rd person, top-down and even first-person. It was yet another title that paved the way for games like Resident Evil/Biohazard, and had a lot of influence on Riverhillsoft's future title Overblood. Regarding categorizing Doctor Hauzer as a survival horror title, there is some debate, but I consider it a part of the genre.This review is episode 36 of Import Gaming FTW, which goes over the game's history, gameplay, story and more. Since this spin-off handheld from 2012 never saw an international release, not many people have played it compared to the other entries in the Suikoden series. It's a fine game, and like Tierkreis on the Nintendo DS, it's not set in the exact same world as the mainline Suikoden games but shares many similar features.
