Lyrics Not a sidepiece or a wifepiece I’m a thinkpiece If you’re done then take your dishes to the sink please Wash to the right dry to the left mind is a kite and the fall is a mess Out of office out of body out of fucks to give sorry not sorry With a busted rib ain’t a thing to do about it just tape and time and then you take the turn again Lean in harder hope the road won’t burn so bad this time you read your curve fast as fuck fit to swerve put the money to the metal come and get your girl Til the lights blur til the lines meet in the middle of the high beams and the wipers keep time with the heartbeat Til you hit a nerve
I’m falling don’t catch me don’t touch me don’t call me Not much we let go even when we should and we know it I walk the wall with both hands open I’d leave it all
Smokey eye because the mind’s on fire Break glass and pass the axe skyward Stone the satellites drones versus battle kites Here goes the next past life There’s a speaker in a decoy at the heart of the mine that rewinds the same birdsong Tell the back of the line that the digging is fine let’s get the third shift on They say that a rising tide when it comes in will lift every ship But they skipped the bit about wildfire how it burns every bridge Panic tryna find a little dry ground big back ups everybody outbound Not me I’m like the good witch bring the motherfucking house down
Looks like I hit a nerve I hit a nerve
No patience I stay laced up and I’m running Learned a phrase in every country I’ve lived and died, been revived like this
That game you taught me how to play I won it Moved out East and I stayed hungry And when the magic’s on me, I can’t miss
Lyrics When I’m good, I know it When I’m bad I don’t know why If you like it, you should show it before we run right out of night Tired of the bar scene the stupid parties getting makeup off my face and glitter out the carpet Meet me in the elevator, let’s press all the buttons we can say our goodbyes later place is faded won’t remember nothing
Visine, cab fare, dry shampoo I’ll take another like déjà—you should let your guard down I laid all my cards out Bells are ringing last round but I’m not turning back now
This might be love it’s still too close to call But when the lights come up don’t wanna be the flower on the wall Our nights are numbered you can count them as they fall But I like the thunder I’m here to feel it all
I know something’s missing I know something isn’t right Seems like the good ones always hidden somewhere just outta sight I think I’m ready, but I can’t say that I’m not afraid I got a sense of direction that gets in my own way I know at best it gets messy nobody’s got an extra heart on hand to break
Dark eyes, allspice, hey look who walked in shark fin headed for the pool table oooh maybe we could shoot a few later I got things to do but this game is better two-player
This might be love it’s still too close to call But when the lights come up don’t wanna be the flower on the wall Our nights are numbered you can count them as they fall But I like the thunder I’m here to feel it allDessa - Hurricane Party - Official Music VideoDoomtree2023-08-01 | Purchase/stream lnk.to/BuryTheLedeYT Lyrics and vocals by Dessa; Produced by Lazerbeak and Andy Thompson Director/DP: Aleutian Calabay 1st AC: Victoria Bruce, Chris Savage Gaffer: Thomas VandenDolder, Joah Colby Grip: Christian Spraungel PA: Eliora Vespera PA: Renee Smith BTS: Michael Chryssomallis Editor: Justin Staggs Featuring: Zach Coulter, Becky Hoffmann, June Krause, Mayda, Zakir Naqvi, Ander Peevy, Asmah Tareen, Andy Thompson, Daphne Thompson, Jenna Walters, Linnea Yeazel

Lyrics Fill the kiddie pool up with Prosecco Get the LEDs on need the spectacle Gotta beat the one last week let’s get a record If you’re tryna be a go-getter you gotta go and get it Desperate times call for desperate pleasures Some legitimate headlines mostly cries for attention The camera speeds copy ready to read oughta be a good night We’re live in 3, 2— fuck, man, busted on a hot mic
Cuz it’s a hurricane a hurricane party End days every other Wednesday Live girls dance dead men float A hurricane party gold dust, sex, and Bacardi DJ says don’t hold back because the water won’t
Looks like someone leaked the password too much tea to clean earl grey disaster Campaign manager come walks it backwards but he’s the one who tipped TV—clever bastard Shots fired in the echo chamber rico-ricochet The other side puts kids in danger don’t matter what their argument, that’s what they always say Front of the parade girl spins a baton band leader conducts with a corn on the cob The new sound gets everybody out on their lawn composed for french horn, cash register, mob
Cuz it’s a hurricane a hurricane party End days every other Wednesday Live girls dance dead men float A hurricane party gold dust, sex, and Bacardi DJ says don’t hold back because the water won’t
Okay, who broke the chain letter too much bad luck to try to get away with it One more plague, nobody goes to recess Chatbots away take out your paper pieces longhand Gimme an essay on the living conditions in Oz written by the Strawman: housing shot up, looking for a soft land Dorothy comes to, couldn’t give a goddamn Looking for a few recruits to do what must be done So if you got the heart and a pair of good boots meet me at the food court by Forever 21

Verse 1 You like it when I wear my hair down but I say that way it just gets in my eyes you say that’s exactly what you like so much I think that sums us up sometimes I’ll be your favorite me mostly carefree laughs easily but what you can’t see in my routine is how hard it gets to keep the heartbeat clean I can see the problem (clearly) clearly I can see the simple fact is that you like me in theory (clearly) and I like you back in practice
HOOK 1 I’m a moon for you give you just the good side save you all the best lines sometimes I wish that I was immune to you could see you and go right by pull myself away from your high tide
VERSE 2 I’ll be fine again by morning, right I set a timer to remind myself nights are just sentimental for me, why of all of the people on the planet can’t think of anybody else I know we’re sposed to keep it light, but no one can pick their appetites, so I think I’m done up on the tight rope I want a love that feels like more than just survival
BRIDGE My beauty my anger my sadness all anchored they’re fused to the bone you can’t take some and leave some I’m this way for a reason you gotta love it all whole or let it all go
HOOK 2 But there’s room for two we could share a flashlight you and me by a landslide every time but if it’s true that you don’t feel so satisfied by it I won’t wait around and wonder why

It’s best performed a cappella, with a dancing baby standing on your lap and a mess of aunts, uncles, and cousins shouting G’head, Wepa or other words of encouragement. Most should be armed with a small plate of assorted carbohydrates.
The Dink a Dink remix was created specifically for the Deeply Human podcast by Lazerbeak (The LEGEND GOD). It is best listened to while moving at maximum-cardio speeds, preferably on a yacht or other luxury sailing vessel. Strobe lights strongly recommended, though can be effectively subbed by somebody flicking the wall switch on and off real fast.
Work that body.

The video is loosely inspired by the work of Cindy Sherman, who famously created a series of photographs designed to look like film stills. As a contest, we invited listeners to take a black and white photo of a scene—any scene—described in the lyrics and post it to social media. The collected images depict the story relayed in the song lyrics. The winning shot (by @Peril_in_Pink at 2:24) won the $300 prize.

Lyrics: VERSE 1 Flip a coin, flip a car I don’t care where we are The picture and the sound won’t synch And some things time can’t fix I’m built for nights like this Don’t mean I’m proud of it And the rose in my teeth Was a pin so it seems You pull it and brace to blast Get ready for the bang and flash Alright just one last dance make it fast
Prechorus I know How the tide pulls deep Eyes open But the mind’s asleep Flash frozen In the driver’s seat Lights and motion But they’re lost on me.
VERSE 2 There’s a dozen selves inside you Tryna be the one to run the dials And some aren’t even on your side When the hunger comes and finds you, only code it knows is rote survival you’ll do the rest in your spare time Tryna get that universal feeling in an invite-only private room guess the ring came off in the glove Looks like you pawned the silver lining Around the cloud that follows you guess that good old push came to shove
Prechorus I know How the tide pulls deep Eyes open But the mind’s asleep Flash frozen In the driver’s seat Lights and motion But they’re lost on me.
HOOK 1 Out in the water You can’t touch bottom It pulls you farther Life on land forgotten
Verse 3 -4 bar instrumental- The world rolls over I’m pulled under Stone cold sober, But I feel nothing.
Bridge I’m just a girl In the body of a boy In the belly of a whale You can’t be sure This far from shore Which winds prevail
Prechorus I know How the tide pulls deep Eyes open But the mind’s asleep Flash frozen In the driver’s seat Lights and motion But they’re lost on me.

HOOK 2 (double)

When in Rome You live by Roman code It used to be If don’t like it, you could leave But then the walls came down And so it’s all Rome now.
You want a standing desk You get floating grave They say pound of flesh Ah, but then it’s metric--wait Hold up Tryna get the glow up Hope the bitcoin flip before the code rusts Middle class: the poor man’s poor man Disappoint the kids, bringing home the store brand Whole life with a stone against your shoulder Tryna flip the symbol over Get it equal to or more than Chekhov says you got a gun, you gotta use it. Guess they’re reading Chekhov downtown, in their cruisers Bang—catch the case we all lose Make Dixie look like Khartoum That Lady Justice ain’t blind yet Lens cap on the body cam – missed again, damn Make you wait While they run your name and St. Peter at the gate Says, tuck your chain in.

It was the golden age before the firewall blew Pictures pretty and the products all new But then the data got bigger than the beta test who ‘da thought, after all, looks like the wire wore you. And I think beauty fucks us up It’s like sugar—in the natural world, we’d never get this much So the appetite is bottomless Call Maybelline Anonymous Make narcissists of all of us We never get enough. It’s two-bit feminism Only says you’re better than Some other bitch-- That’s digging the same ditch One of us winning don’t fix the damn system Toes out, girls, back to second position The natural order is value neutral Culture institutes a few virtues Capital comes and brings moral confusion But do anything long enough And the body gets used to it

TYRANNY lyrics The self-made man with the brand-name watch the fame fever and the fast lane pox crowns himself Caesar and the known world scoffs, but if we can’t beat him the whole thing’s lost.
The oval office or the locker room water cooler gossip, propaganda, or the honest truth— it all depends on who you’re talking to the Paris Accord? Fuck it, pardon my French, don’t really parlez vous.
Cut the EPA edit a better hurricane keep Kellyanne just a call and a con away gut the fourth estate (trade war!) yeah, of course mistakes were made, paid for by good people on both sides, so they got a torch and a chant and a hand sign, our reports say we still got a chance at a landslide. You’re short on mirrors long on smoke— all that Hydroxychloroquine cut with Diet Coke. Under oath and unprovoked I think your dog whistle broke cause we can all hear it: post a white power clip claim you missed what they were cheering hearing’s fine, so you must be hard of spirit, running interference cap lock on spellcheck off the Teflon Don gets his feelings hurt by basketball United Nations gets a stand-up show your race relations is a taco bowl.
This is not partisan; I think reasonable people can disagree. But nobody stuck on a wall likes the way that things end, it goes: “All the king’s horses and all the king’s men...”
Tyranny, tyranny, tyranny, tyranny Tyranny, tyranny, tyranny, tyranny Tyranny, tyranny, tyranny, tyranny Tyranny, tyranny, tyranny, tyrannyLAZERBEAK - Light Work (Official Audio)Doomtree2020-10-02 | Artwork by Andy McAlpine Animation by Phantom Sloth Created, produced, and performed by Lazerbeak Mixed by Joe Mabbott at The Hideaway Mastered by Bruce Templeton at Microphonic Mastering
Armed with an endless vault of beats and an extensive musical catalog spanning over two decades, Lazerbeak’s classic sound has generally taken on an epic, hard-hitting, everything-and-the-kitchen-sink approach - inspired largely by production crews like Atlanta’s Dungeon Family and New York’s Bomb Squad. He’s collaborated with everyone from reigning pop queen Lizzo (producing her entire debut album), bluegrass heavyweights Trampled By Turtles, mythological supergroup GAYNGS, and the Grammy-winning Minnesota Orchestra, all while continuing to build and create with life-long comrades from his own Doomtree artist collective and notching production credits on everything from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton Mixtape to the dark electro-pop of Banks’ critically acclaimed III album.
Much has changed in the last eight years since the Minneapolis producer released his hip-hop instrumental opus Lava Bangers - which later became the foundation for the Lazerbeak-produced Lizzo album Lizzobangers - and new solo album Penelope continues that progression with a drastic musical turn that echoes the same life-changing experiences Beak has encountered in that timeframe. Now 38 and a father of three, with a day job that includes CEO and general manager of Doomtree Records and manager of numerous high-profile acts, Beak set out to create a project that would reflect the ever-morphing landscape that he’s embraced in his 30’s. Whereas Lava Bangers’ 20 short, high-energy heat rocks relied heavily on monstrous drums, punishing low end, and gnarly horn stabs - sounding at times more like the fury of Run The Jewels or the Just Blaze-helmed Rocafella Records era - Penelope finds Beak stripping every sound back to its individual core to create seven meticulously slow-building and expansive instrumental meditations that ebb and flow with a newfound patience and restraint rarely seen from the producer.
The album’s title - named after Beak’s eight-year-old daughter and oldest child - is a reflection of this boiled-down, reflective approach and marks the second entry in his meditative instrumental trilogy. Inspired largely by his new life as a family man and a recent deep dive into all things mindfulness, self wellness, and gratitude, Penelope thrives on ambient atmospherics, gentle melodies, and carefully-crafted percussion to create its own pulsing sonic universe. Every musical element is allowed the time and space to breathe and grow into a full-fledged composition, and the lack of vocals allows Beak to explore a much richer musical sound bed, giving each instrument its own moment in a constantly revolving spotlight. Whereas 2018’s Luther relied on darker retrospection and murky electronics, Penelope steps out of the water and into the sunlight, gravitating towards warm guitar tones, rich analog synths, and live percussion to accentuate a much lighter and brighter vision. Lead-off track “Treetops” recalls the feeling of laying on a deserted island as palm leaves sway above in the breeze, while the acoustic strums and uplifting choral build of “River Wide” joyously weave together to create what could easily be the soundtrack to an outtake from The Lion King.
There is a noticeable and newfound confidence that vibrates from Penelope’s 35 minute journey, one that was only hinted at on Luther. It’s clear that Beak is in full command here, swiftly and adeptly moving in and out of a multitude of genres and vibes with the grace of a studio vet, while harnessing the curiosity and musical playfulness of someone half his age. It’s this maturity and willingness to explore that solidifies his place as one of the most versatile musicians alive today. By living with and exploring this unique aural space, Lazerbeak has completed the long trek from beat-maker to full-blown producer. Penelope represents a newfound peace and balance for Lazerbeak, both creatively and personally. With one foot in the sea and the other in the sand, he’s managed to create a truly grounding and healing tour de force for our rapidly changing world.LAZERBEAK - Light Work (Official Audio)Doomtree2020-10-02 | Artwork by Andy McAlpine Animation by Phantom Sloth Created, produced, and performed by Lazerbeak Mixed by Joe Mabbott at The Hideaway Mastered by Bruce Templeton at Microphonic Mastering

Cloquet, the collaborative duo of producer Paper Tiger and vocalist J.Gundersen, are back with the announcement of their upcoming sophomore album New Drugs and its powerful lead single “Breathing.” What initially began as a DIY file-sharing side project amongst friends quickly turned into a full-fledged band with the release of Cloquet’s 2018 self-titled debut album. Born out of a musical comradery and love for all things 90's dance and indie rock, Cloquet merges the worlds of electronic and post-punk to create something equally urgent and reflective, a sound that lives just as perfectly on the dance floor as it does barreling down the highway on a late-night drive.
Paper Tiger got his start as a founding member of the Minneapolis-based Doomtree collective nearly two decades ago, producing several of the group’s biggest hits and working closely with bandmates Dessa, P.O.S, and Sims to help craft their own critically-acclaimed solo recordings. Since then he’s also branched out into television and commercial production, scoring the HBO documentary Rock In A Hard Place and carving a new musical direction with his own instrumental solo releases. J.Gundersen meanwhile has made a name for himself not only as a producer and singer/songwriter, but also as an in-demand motion graphics designer. The two met while working together on several multimedia design and visual projects, including several music videos for Doomtree, and instantly bonded over their shared affinity for 80's and 90's dance music.
While Cloquet’s debut album was created side-by-side one another in tiny studios and bedrooms throughout Brooklyn, 2019 saw Gundersen make a cross-country relocation to San Francisco for work, forcing the two to completely transform the way they go about collaborating. They quickly found inspiration in the challenge of FaceTime calls and shared Dropbox folders, and a new batch of songs rapidly began to emerge from both coasts. Gundersen channeled his isolation and the feelings of being uprooted into some of his most poignant and relatable lyrics to date, going deeply inward to find a light in the dark; and the previously shared time in New York helped Paper Tiger intricately build the earnest and lush production around Gundersen’s voice, finding a more unified and effortless sound than ever before.
In a way you could say that the great physical distance between Paper Tiger and J.Gundersen brought Cloquet closer together than ever before, an idea that’s even more amplified by the confusing times that we’re all currently living through together. The songs on New Drugs speak to the everyday struggles and nuanced adversity that we each walk through in our own daily lives. They’re the perfect soundtrack to this new shared human experience, one that’s equally filled with joy and sorrow, darkness and light, bangers and slow jams.Doomtree TV Episode 8Doomtree2020-06-06 | Anti-Racism Resources for White People: http://bit.ly/ANTIRACISMRESOURCES

Lady Midnight and Sophia Eris (official audio)Doomtree2020-05-12 | The fifth single from Night Stone's debut album, released by Doomtree Records on May 15th, 2020. Pre-Order information is available at http://store.doomtree.net/.
Vocals by Lady Midnight and Sophia Eris Production by Lazerbeak and ICETEP
Night Stone is the new electronic project from veteran producers Lazerbeak and ICETEP. Both artists have spent the last decade building a bulletproof discography of credits - Lazerbeak with everyone from global sensation Lizzo and bluegrass legends Trampled By Turtles to the Grammy-winning Minnesota Orchestra, and his own Doomtree crew; and ICETEP with Chicago’s first lady Psalm One, indie-rap behemoth Astronautalis, and singer/rapper/renaissance woman Dessa.
The two began working together on various Doomtree projects in 2015 and instantly bonded over their shared love for French house, electro, and techno, musical territories that neither producer had ventured into previously. What began as a shot in the dark quickly evolved into a sound all their own, mixing highly melodic instrumentation with dance floor-ready beats and a nod to the 90s R&B they were both raised on to create an uptempo and supremely joyous soundtrack.
Once the instrumentals were in place, Beak and ICETEP realized there was still something missing and went off in search of the perfect guest vocalists to add the urgency and harmonic clarity the album was missing. Enter Sophia Eris, Lady Midnight, Channy Leaneagh of POLICA, and MMYYKK of astralblak, the four cornerstones of Night Stone’s self-titled debut album. Sophia Eris, who moonlights as Lizzo’s official DJ and hypewoman, throws down confident bars and affirmations on four of the album’s bubbliest bangers, while neo-soul slayer Lady Midnight adds a lyrical depth and spiritual energy reminiscent to the project reminiscent of peak Sade. Then there’s MMYYK of Afro-future funk all-stars astralblak, who mixes mantras and self-love proclamations with a voice as mountainous as the man himself, and Channy Leaneagh of electro-pop kingpins POLICA who lends her ethereal voice to the appropriately titled “Night Rider.”
The beats on the other hand, influenced just as much by classic production duos Cassius and Daft Punk as they are by the synthy quiet storm of legendary acts like Luther Vandross, New Edition, and TLC, manage to walk a fine line between a myriad of genres, all while keeping your mind and body moving in time to the intricate grooves. Polyrhythmic percussion and booming kick drums meet analog synthesizers, Chic-esque guitar riffs, and boisterous horn stabs in a triumphant tidal wave of sound, and the vocals from some of this generation’s most up-and-coming talents only help to ground Night Stone firmly at the forefront of current electronic music.Night Stone - Echo Love ft.
