Leaked Body Camera Video Shows Mount Vernon Officer Making Controversial Arrest Natalie Williamson 2026-07-01 | This investigative story showed a controversial arrest by Newman Brazier, a Mount Vernon police officer beginning with exclusive leaked body-camera and surveillance footage showing the officer pepper-spraying, tasing and dragging a handcuffed man in May of 2025. After speaking with Mount Vernon Police Chief Eric Pettway, the reporting revealed policy violations and misconduct that Pettway said had previously gone unaddressed. Despite the mayor and town attorney saying they were aware of the officer’s actions at the time of the arrest, before the story aired, it was only after FOX10’s investigation that brought the information to light that the city announced an official internal review. After multiple stories aired, the Mt. Vernon police chief was fired after speaking out. With our consistent reporting, citizens took their concerns to a city council meeting, citing our stories and how this should’ve been handled when the actions took place. On top of that, the police officer seen dragging, tasing and pepper spraying the man, had his Alabama Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission license suspended and is now under investigation by an outside agency. After our reports, he was also fired from his position with the department. FOX10 News also learned that a federal civil lawsuit was filed after our stories mentioning his actions that we reported on.
