To get over this, I’m a firm believer in taking calculated shortcuts, and no shortcut is sweeter than game juice. Simple animations, shaders, and lights can spice up our game’s environments a lot, and they are very low effort.
I’ve always enjoyed the study of game feel, and implementing these techniques into our own projects can make them feel so much better. I hope you can find ways to steal the example techniques I mention in this video to make your games look as stunning as possible.

After a lot of iterating, I experimented with making the player character create his own obstacles in order to beat levels. After banging my head against the table for several days I came up with a wacky solution: Make the character lay eggs in the air and have them hatch bullets. In this video I go over several design choices I made and some decisions I’m still considering.

It seems that with every new little thing I learn while using the engine, a whole new set of unlocked doors appear to add more stuff. It’s pretty overwhelming, but working with consistency is a great way to stay motivated.
