I made this just before Covid-19 became the situation we are dealing with currently, at least in my country, but I hope each of you are safe, secure and healthy in these times. I know they are difficult, for many incredibly so, but we will get through it together and with strength. To those struggling, on any level, know that there is a way forward. I can't truly remember what struck me to write this, I believe I was interested at how many people, those I knew in person as well as not, had crafted an expectation for who I was. Was not all too passionate about releasing it for a number of reasons - partially because I thought it might be misunderstood. But it's such a burden for me to have a project pretty much completed and never get it out of the way for so long - my head feels cluttered. So I am releasing it. Honestly, not my favourite piece visually but at least I can move on.Don’t place a pedestal under me, I’m no person worthy of your persistent praise, Pry me open and you’ll find that the picture looks different up close, Paint is a powerful concealment, A polluted canvas can be concealed plush,Pretty on the outside, but peel it back and it’s the opposite, A polarity so poignant for this poem, Am I pitiful? No. But I still have my pitfalls, I poison the planet with my plastic, Pay to pesticide, came and patronised,I’ve broken promises with people close, Pitied my appearance, publicly ashamed in my own skin, Criticised and compared, myself, my conscience,I’ve crumpled, I’m no indigo child incarnate, No winner of any competition, I still crave, crave the supplement of consumerismA collision between ego and…. here we go, You see I am no specialty,I can take for granted a life with clean water, food and shelter, I am no genius, I can be unproductive, wasteful and pessimistic.
