DaforLynxMade for the VGM Workshop July 2021 Challenge: redo an 8-bit video game track with modern style! Didn't go too crazy with this one. Did the best I could in terms of sound quality with the tools I have. It's pretty faithful. Unfortunately it strikes me as very similar to the Let's Go! Pikachu and Eevee games, which is exactly what I was going for, but I find that type of remastering kind of boring. This doesn't hold a candle to the HeartGold/SoulSilver version, but Go Ichinose went effing ham on that one, so I had no chance.

This time the challenge was to use only sounds from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2. Around this time I had also figured out how to play soundfonts without interpolation in the DAW using FluidSynthPlugin, and this was the perfect opportunity to abuse that.
All rights reserved.Riolus Challenge [DSINK_GM_32K.sf2]DaforLynx2025-01-07 | This was made for a contest back in March 2024, which was to create a theme for any Pokémon. So I went a step farther, and made two - an encounter theme and a battle theme. It also, of course, served as a test for my then-in-development soundfont DSINK_GM_32K.

This one's pretty special to me, as someone with a lot of LGBTQ+ friends. It's made more or less within the limitations of the Genesis chip, and my uploads are mastered differently than the one in the album. I really frickin' love FM synthesis right now.

The character was created by NuzzlyLeaf ( https://x.com/LeafNuzzles/ ), Reiga ( https://x.com/reigamogus/ ), and Sheargrub ( https://x.com/sheargrub/ ), along with Hyuponia ( lalala-doomsday.neocities.org ) and JH ( https://x.com/CrustyClarinet/ ).
You should be able to hear this music on the upcoming Luminary Veneràre stage when playing as Putrolce.
Truly, I'm very glad for the opportunity. I'd like to thank NuzzlyLeaf and the entire All Star Heroines team for making my last-minute joining an incredibly friendly experience. Making Rivals music is something I've wanted to do for a very long time, and I hope to work on more Rivals content.

No, I will not be doing this regularly.Theme of Unyielding PurposeDaforLynx2024-06-12 | Mmm crunchy
Why do you create? Everything I make is in service to art. To our undying spirit, to our capacity for emotion, to our need to tell stories. I cannot imagine a life without art. I cannot imagine a life without the drive to create. There doesn't need to be a reason. The only thing that matters is that it selflessly gives you happiness.
Just messing around with Pokémon Black 2/White 2 (gotta get that in there) sounds again...for yet another contest.

This was made for a contest, but it's also the sort of piece I've wanted to make for a while. Just going all out with the music arranging and production skills I've gathered over my years of engaging in this hobby. It's the last piece I composed in 2023, and my way of capping off the year. I tried to emulate the feel of Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire's soundtrack, and from the reactions I've had thus far I think I got pretty close.

One of my all-time favorites. A seriously Hugh banger, I would say. I found some neat guitars so I figured I'd take this opportunity to try applying them to the MIDI. One thing led to another, and I ended up remaking the entire track. Whoops. The video portion took way too long. I am NOT a video editor, that is for sure.Friend Area ~ Oceanic (Remix) - Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red/Blue Rescue TeamDaforLynx2022-12-23 | An obscure track remixed in a pretty cool way. I daresay it qualifies as Drum N' Bass. First one in which I didn't touch Musescore at all.

Unfortunately it happened slightly before I'm due to release a bunch of music, but I'll make a new one next time around.
This track is heard during the newly released Episode 19. This was a collab with Darius (whom I'm working with for Pokémon Azure) - he handled the composition, we double-dutied on arranging, and I handled the production.

In the end, it's up to you whether it's worth spending the money for some nice strings. Personally, I think it's a steal - and it could sound quite good when combined with the other orchestral instruments of BBCSO. This is the first VST I've ever bought with money.
Timestamps: 0:05 - Berlin Orchestra Inspire 0:48 - BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover
Transcription: Strings VST Test: Berlin Inspire (€30) vs. BBCSO Discover (Free) (No panning, no effects, same CC automation)
Berlin Inspire Strings BI Strings does not have separate instruments Articulation can be assigned to MIDI channels! It has access to slow sustains (useful for pads) The panning is biased towards the right... Pizzicato can be somewhat indistinct While the sustains can sound a little washy... The sound is clean and it is quite high-quality for the price (around $33US)
BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover (Strings) Articulation can only be changed using keyswitches. First thing you'll notice... There's a bit of a buildup on every note. (particularly in the upper strings) Very obvious that it's a sampler. There seems to be a lot less dynamic range... The short articulations...are quite good! The sound is a little more intimate and the soundstage is fuller (though the violin 2 samples sound weird) For some reason, the basses have no tremolo articulation. Also, the dynamic range is especially poor here. But BBCSO Discover is a full orchestra! These are just the strings.Duty to SaveDaforLynx2021-06-25 | My entry for the VGM Workshop June 2021 Challenge: musescore.com/groups/video-game-music-workshop/discuss/5103006 You can join the Musescore group, or join the Discord server: discord.gg/Zqrz8HcFbZ Score: musescore.com/daforlynx/june-2021-challenge

This is a remix/rearrangement of the song that plays at the top of each bracket in the PWT. It takes some cues from the original, but most of it is my own interpretation. I used Musescore for composing and Ableton for everything else. This is my first video on YouTube. I'm not sure what else I'll use this channel for besides music (to sync with Musescore), but the time will come eventually where I branch out. I hope you enjoy.
