How do we take these perceived ‘weaknesses’ and use them to achieve the things we want most in this world?
Ask Mo Beck. A lifelong climber born without a lower left arm, she’s learned how to climb differently. Of all climbing disciplines, Mo fell in love with ice climbing because, “…it’s adaptive for everybody.” She now leads adaptive ice climbing clinics, teaching other folks to push past what they previously thought possible.
'The Gatherer' is a celebration of Mo’s desire to construct a world where, “…I hope in 15 years…there will be no such thing as accessibility anymore because everyone feels welcome in every space.”

Ask Chuck Odette.
At the age of 66, Chuck Odette is a likely candidate for oldest climber you’ll see at the crag. But he won’t be the weakest. Chuck lives a life centered around rock climbing. Seven years ago he retired from work, sold his home, and lit out across the country with his wife in a sixteen-foot camp trailer to chase good weather and steep rock.

I just needed to try. I climbed through the first crux – I had that pretty wired – then I got to the rest before the 2nd. I noticed all the tape on my fingers was getting a little in the way of my friction, but it was protecting my raw wounds from the bite of the rock crystals, cutting straight down into them. I climbed through the 2nd crux and felt good moving through — I knew what to do. Then, the rest before the 3rd crux, which essentially leads right into the 4th and final section of the route to the anchor. I shook my hands out from a resting position and I could feel the blood gushing from my finger pads below the slipping tape. I could hear Matilda and Brette cheering from the belay below. I felt invigorated by their energy. I bit all of my tape off of my fingers — and I put my left finger into the tiny hole, squishing it deep into the pocket for the most possible leverage. Then, I reached out to my small crystal, walked my foot up high and left into a smear, and jumped. I latched into the hold, clenched my abdominal muscles – and hiked my right foot up. I screamed – to embrace the throttling pain beneath my finger tips and to tell my muscles to keep going. I got through to the next bolt, having the final sequences in front of me. As I looked out to the tiny crystals, I mentally thought; ‘Don’t let go now! Find a Way.’ ”

As has always been tradition, the goal was to bring the climbing community together around a single event. But in 2022, a new idea was proposed that transformed the Petzl RocTrip. Creative Onsight brought together groups of athletes, photographers and videographers to create completely original images and videos. Additionally, in-person participants (whose registration was limited to minimize the environmental impact of the event) were able to attend professional and athlete-led technical clinics. Last but not least, this event was part of a collaboration with Manikia Project, a local organization whose goal is to boost sustainable economic development centered around climbing in the area. Sit back, relax, and grab your popcorn because we've got the whole story! Enjoy Petzl RocTrip as you've never seen it before.
