Shoofin FriendSo I’m currently in Melbourne right now, where i almost forgot to keep up my weekly uploads. Being proactive I prepared this video and a few others to go up whilst i was away. Although, I didn’t actually give any of them descriptions. So here we are.
Jonni Phillips is an incredibly talented, super inspiring artist animator, musician (sometimes) and so many other things. This is the soundtrack from her newest film The Final Exit of the Disciples of Ascensia! The final film in her wasteland series, spanning her entire course studying experimental animation at CalArts. I’ve been following Jonni for a couple years now and was so humbled by the beauty of this film. The film this is from left a super strong impact on me. So please check it out yourself!

They released two studio albums, Junior Fiction (2003) and Sound Instincts (2006), before disbanding in the following year. Seja Vogel was a touring member of Regurgitator from 2007 to 2009 and then worked as a solo artist to issue two albums, We Have Secrets But Nobody Cares (2010) and All Our Wires (2013).
Sekiden's second EP, Love Songs for Robots (June 2001) with six tracks, was launched at The Healer, where Joanne Bell of BrisPop.com observed, "their sound was chock-full of implausibly crunchy guitar, fuzzy synth, odd machine noises, and elaborate but inobtrusive drumwork. So much push that there's no aural trigger to wonder about the absence of a bassplayer... Highlights for my money were Mirko's highly amusing drum solos, Simon's Leapingest Guitarist action, Seja & Mirko's keyboard duet." The EP peaked at No. 25 on the ARIA Alternative Singles Chart MediaSearch's Carmine Pascuzzi felt, "[its] a very intoxicating sound from an eclectic group from Brisbane who thrive on bringing something new from past synths exponents. This is their second release and it contains fuzzy pop gems... There's plenty to look forward to from this act. - Wikipedia
I found this album while sifting through cds at the Girrawheen Save the Children opshop. There was such a great variety of CDs there that day. A lot of rare local stuff, such as this. But also a lot of popular albums that you don't often find at opshops. I also picked up some Smashing Pumpkins, and Radiohead. The music on this EP was not what i was expecting at all based upon the cover art. Sure it has electronic elements. But i first thought it was going to be a soft synthy piece, with lots of modulated vocals. Happily surprised! it's really lovely in its own right.

In the late nineties they were gigging everywhere and as often as they could, and were gaining some popularity, particularly with the ladies. In 1999 they released their first and only album, Use only as Directed, an album that they financed by winning a studio time in a big battle of the bands contest. Having a sense of cracked humour, The cover of "Use only as Directed" was a old toaster brutally rammed full of large knives and still plugged in. Why the hell not." - 1999 review (no source)
Mark Bakovic - Vocals & Bass Stu Huxtable - Drums
Another of the albums I'd found at Girrawheen Save the Children. How could i pass up on such a crazy album cover, and when I say crazy I mean it! Is that toaster still plugged in??!? I expected nothing less from the music when I finally got around to hearing it. I'm not a big metal guy in any regard, but I've most definitely heard worse things. The band actually reunited in 2018 to perform a one off gig after a good almost 20 year hiatus. Slayfest Perth was the event, and it seems they pulled a great crowd, having a great time back together!

Making mention of Fugazi as an influence is baffling as Conner should surely be targeting fans of Hard Fi, Bloc Party and others in the current slew of uninspired Anglo guitar drivel. The plodding, barely serviceable bass and only-as-audible-as-necessary drums do nothing but prop up some grating riffs and whining pan-atlantic vocals. Slipping in and out of slightly ska driven moments, what attempts to be catchy is just headache inducing. This current wash of poppy riffs, with just enough distortion to garner the label 'garage', seems to have lost momentum and now comes the detritus of the top ten tornado. Surely it's time to put 'em all back in the garage, get some petrol, a match and fashion a taper out of the mags who inexplicably make them massive. [Caroline Hurley] Hello Graphic Missile' is out on Oct 2. - The Skinny (2006)
This album was another found at Girrawheen Save the Children. Such a hidden gem! Especially with such little information about the band and album online. There are of course some uploads of singular songs, spanning up to 14 years old on YouTube. I was under the impression that not all the songs were uploaded. But double checking now shows i was mistaken ahah. This album is really great though, shame a lot of reviews from back in the day were so brutal. Unwilling to let it coexist among similar sounds like the strokes and Fugazi. Actually i hadn't even read the review listed above until just then. Yeah, very brutal. Hopefully you can find some enjoyment in the quant mid-2000s indie rock group.

Here is an oldschool type post for the channel! Haven’t had the luck of finding a little known album, that has a minimal presence online for ages! Sifting through CDs at opshops and salvage stores all across Perth is a super time consuming job. Not that i acted like it was work to begin with. But over the past year I’d prioritised buying albums from artists i like, online. It’s more convenient and is generally more reliable. Today’s find is brought to you by, me forgetting that post offices are closed on weekends. I was meaning to send off some DS games I didn’t have the space for, and after releasing it the post office was closed. I popped into the RSPCA opshop i used to visit all the time. They had a lot of random japanese compilations, none of which were very exciting. The usual, clssical music, and random 2000s pop. Most of which I already own 😈. But yeah! Nestled in between the classical was this album. I totally knew i had something special. I immediately loved the album art, proceeding to look up the album on my phone. Hoping to find some relevant results. Initially it was directing me to a Japanese boxer under the same name (who could still be the same person in all seriousness). This boxer, had a lot of videos documenting, what I’m assuming was drama surrounding their announcement of becoming a follower of islam. I didn’t bother to reading into it further. After purchasing the cd, I did however try to find the album online again. Where i only found it referenced on a wikidata forum? With no images or further information to accompany it.
I’m currently on the bus/train to see my gf in the city (clubbing). So whilst I’m partying i hope YOU do to, to this lovely album. ENJOYKing Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard - Automation - Fan Music VideoShoofin Friend2020-10-23 | I've been meaning to attempt editing a music video on this channel for a while now. I couldn't not give it a go when Gizz announced a new single, Album, as well as a Grimes inspired video project. Where they supplied the footage, and music. Whilst editors like me do the rest.
I am so incredibly proud of this video. I have never been so productive in editing a video in my life. The amount of work that went into this over three days is absolutely insane, and it FLEW by. I couldn't be happier with the result.
I've been a massive Gizz fan for the past couple years. So unofficial or not, it is such an honor to have gotten the chance to have made this. Thankyou guys for such a great opportunity to edit this. :))

Happened merely a few weeks away from widespread pandemonium is baffling, and oh so lucky.
On March 1st 2020, to celebrate the life of the late ACDC lead singer, Bon Scott. As well as the 40th anniversary of his passing. Closing Perth Festival 2020, Highway to Hell saw 8 local, interstate and international bands performing a literally moving tribute to the band. Starting in Canning Bridge and ending in East Fremantle. The event saw 10km's of road transformed into the worlds longest festival stage, with artists donned on the back of large moving trucks playing 2 songs over and over again for 3 hours ahahha. It didn't cease to get old though. It was such a fun event! I went specifically to see Amyl and the Sniffers, but acts like Shonen Knife, Dom Mariani with the Tommyhawks, and Odette Mercy with Mathas were so stellar. Each of course performing their own interpretations of some of ACDC's most iconic songs.

I think there is one more, but i'm not sure which band it was. What I recorded of Aldous Harding Live in Perth 2020Shoofin Friend2020-02-29 | So! As you might have noticed. The first portion of the video features me wondering around the outside of the Chevron Lighthouse as Aldous's set started. I JUST missed out on getting tickets, I'd been in line for a good 20 minutes and it just slipped out of reach. After stumbling around for a good 5 oe so minutes missing her first 2 songs. I bump into the guy who was in front of me in the ticket line. As you can see in the video, he explains that he was meant to go with his friend but his friend missed out too. So he offered to just straight up give me his ticket! what an AMAZING guy!!! Thankyou so much. I'll leave a timecode in the comments to skip to, if you don't want to bother watching me walking around :)
Also, just for clarification. I didn't mean to record him giving me the ticket, it just sort of happened. If you find this video man i will happily blur/ cut that section out :) thank you so so much again regardless.
Aldous Harding's set was pretty solid in the end. Good share of music from new and old albums. But man, the crowd became so impatient with her. I didn't mind that much. But her and the band took like a good 2-5 minutes between each song. Really bizarre, her movements were so slow. I know that's part of her character really, which is fine. The crowd just got impatient is all.Clips From Weyes Blood Perth 2020Shoofin Friend2020-02-27 | im real sorry the audio quality n video r bad, i will get new gear sooner or later.GAZEY - Sole (Full Album)Shoofin Friend2020-02-22 | Well folks, I knew i should've posted this album sooner. It's such a shame that i'm posting it now. Quoted as being Perth's best hidden secret, GAZEY were a 5 piece, Pop, Lofi, Indie, R&B band. Specializing in realizing a sound akin to the hypnagogic state you are in just before you fall asleep. Consisting of :
Caleb Andrews - Bass (Not credited as being apart of this album/check bandcamp info) Ezra Padmanabham - Drums Ryan Thomas - Guitar Ezekiel Padmanabham - Keyboards/Vocals Josiah Padmanabham - Keyboards/Vocals
The Band emerged onto the Perth scene in late 2017, playing their first gig at Badlands. Slowly building a collection of there own songs, with intense support from local Radio station RTRFM. With them finishing 2019 on top of RTR's most played list, with Sleep coming in at #1 and River not far off at #13. Which is where I first found them. I really loved sleep last year, I ended up using the song as the background piece for a video on my main channel (Goof luck finding it ;) although that video in particular isn't very good).
On the 15th of February via a Facebook post, it was revealed that the band was breaking up. With two of the Padmanabham brothers, Ezra and Ezekiel leaving to pursue other ventures. All the power to them. It is also worthwhile to point out that Josiah also happens to be a member of another amazing Perth group, who I've shared an album of on this channel previously, Grievous Bodily Calm. So be sure to check them out. In 2019 I did manage to see GAZEY play, once, at In The Pines. If you're from Perth they have one last show coming up in their current group, on the 26th with Airline Food at The Bird. Before Josiah and Ryan plan to take a few months off to focus on writing. I honestly the band was completely toast, but i guess i just didn't read the full post properly, ah well.
This album, Sole was released on October 2nd 2019. With core themes of isolation in different environments, as well as shifting between nostalgic influences and contemporary emotions. Something endearing about this album was how it was recorded. With each song being "DIY, so that each song could be handwoven and unique”

(thanks bandcamp) lofi, experimental pop, sorta duo consisting of Sarah Smith and Zach Phillips. Originally based in Brattleboro,Vermont, in 2007 the pair worked under the name Sord releasing a few Cassettes on Phillip's very own label "OSR Tapes". Eventually birthing their first release "Songs of Blanche Blanche Blanche". Recorded in August of 2010, later receiving a cassette release by Night People Records in 2011.
All in all that is the very tip of the iceberg for a fascinating pair of musicians that i will definitely get a better grasp upon over the next few months :)
Personally I just discovered triple B through an artist i follow on twitter linking to the song "Green Light" which I've fallen in love with. thanks focus :) Sarah Smith & Zach Phillips have been working on Seashells BBB#10 since 2017, and i can't wait. But yes i was alone for this show. It's fine, for my first actual show all by myself it was such a killer night. Headed into the city with two people i'd never met irl before, and we had so much fun. They left me to hit a club, when i eventually reached Badlands I did become super anxious though. I was so close to not going in, thankfully as you can see i did. But yeah, i got in as soon as they were starting. Such a great atmosphere, amazing stage presence from Liz, Jonathon and Benjamin. Such a sweet group.
When they got around to officially introducing themselves Liz told us a really wholesome story about how her parents stayed in Perth for a few years when she was a baby, from Jakarta. Leaving her with a weird sorta connection to the city. Going on to talk about how she always really loves it here and so on.

Big spacey fan. So hearing some cool UNRELEASED stuff is cool. Recorded live at that RTRfm i keep rambling about from time to time. This track was performed on September 4th 2017 and it is super funky n neat. I have to thank the people at Spacey Jane Thrillposting though. This track was rediscovered by a Jake McMillan who also moderates the group! AND created the cover art for the song. So everyone say a big THANKYOU!!
He also threw in an acoustic version of another song of their's, sawteeth. Which i'll probably upload during the next few days.
Spacey Jane has totally blown up in the past year or so, and they truly deserve it. So if you enjoyed this check out some more of their stuff!

It just didn't really click to upload it when i first listened to it the first time. Nevertheless, here we have Guerilla Toss's newest EP What Would The Odd Do?.
Consisting of singer, Kassie Carlson, drummer Peter Negroponte, guitarist Arian Shafiee, keyboardist Sam Lisabeth, and bassist Stephe Cooper. Guerilla Toss are a very very cool band that i like a lot. I mean yeah, I found GT pretty recently whilst trailing through the backlog of uploads on DFA record's Soundcloud (I think). Listening to "Polly's Crystal" and being totally blown away but I was also a little stand offish. Since it isn't the sort of stuff i'd usually like. But man it's sick, they've grown on me so much. (with the exception of the bands 2013 self titled release the deluxe version of II and the SB series. Which i will most likely do a compilation of at a later date :0 ) UMO continues to be a force to be reckoned with, creating some of the most memorable and distinct Psychedelic-Rock and R&B of the 2010’s. As you may have seen in the other album uploads of UMO, on this channel. I am a huge Ruban Nielsen fan, spending my early teens living off of “II” and “Multi-Love”. Not to mention now, following Ruben and his brother Kody’s previous more punk oriented band. The Mint Chicks! (Which would also have three album uploads on this channel. If it weren’t for the bizarre, scattered use of copyright. They’re all on spotify and whatever but ah well.) anyway yea i love these boys, so you should love their music too.

It's been a week or so since Melbourne and i best try and explain a little bit behind how i came to find this album. Compared to most it isn't really very thrilling at all. The friend I was staying with was working 8-5 so during the week I had a lot of time to myself. The problem that arose though, was i really didn't know what and where to go. By this point I had already been to the Museum, Art Gallery, Royal Botanic Garden, and all over the city. I was pretty lost. Then one of the days i found myself sweltering in a deflated air mattress bed at 12pm. I questioned what am i actually doing, and started planning my day. My plan was to get some sticky tape to cover the cracks on my little Kodak's battery cover. I also wanted to go all over Op-shopping BUT also looking for some cheap chairs to bring back the apartment. Is it not weird that the guy i was staying with had 0 chairs in his apartment? After I'd made breakfast i was out of the house by at least 1:30pm and took this dumb long route around to the closest Salvos. Crossing through Fitzroy gardens and passing some huge cathedral. When i got to the Salvos, i was honestly pretty disappointed. Super lackluster selection of clothing and nick knacks. At least it was all colour coded in a really cool way. That, and the CD collection was pretty cool! I expected to find some neat local stuff and i found a bunch. Although i only bought one, since this one had the most appealing cover art. Looked it up on google, Indie punk rock. Yeah, right up my alley. And here we are, i of course did buy some sticky tape and cheap camp chairs later on. Successful sleepy day!
Now, onto Robert Reid! the album i found in my possession. Spinning is Reid's second full-length studio album. Released in 2011 it's a pretty cool collection of songs! I'm very glad to have found it. I would've referred to Reid's website nevermore.com.au for more information but either i'm super dumb or it's been down for a while. Otherwise if you want more music of his he actually released his fourth studio album this year! On spotify he also has all 4 of his albums up. This includes his 2007 EP so share the love and tell him where you came from :)
Oh actually i just found his facebook page! He seems like a real sweet guy that really loves what he does
This album does not belong to me i am merely sharing music i have found and enjoyed, thanks :))Halo Maud - Du Pouvoir EP (2017 version)Shoofin Friend2019-09-25 | As per usual with where the majority of my music references come. I was listening to RTRfm (Western Australia's / Perth's main community radio. Here i'll even provide a link to their site for once https://rtrfm.com.au/ ) and the EP's title track "Du Pouvoir" came on and just totally blew me away. Who might this Melody's Echo Chamber (or even Bjork a little i guess) sounding gal be? Well after a successful shazam. I was greeted with Halo Maud, the creation of Maud Nadal. Maud grew up in rural France later moving to Paris where during the early 2010's she found herself playing in bands like Moodoid (who i hadn't heard of up until now) and Melody's Echo Chamber ( which after assuming it was actually Melody initially it was really cool to see that they've worked together!)
SO yea! Maud only started the "Halo Maud" project in the mid 2010's and released this fantastic three-song single. I honestly intended to upload her first full album but i couldn't buy the digital album. Or even listen to it for that matter. On Burger Records (lol) or her bandcamp page. Super lame. I'm sure i'll get it up sooner or later, otherwise close your eyes and enjoy!
This album does not belong to me i am merely sharing music i have found and enjoyed, thanks :))Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Multi Love [Full Album]Shoofin Friend2019-09-18 | Unknown Mortal Orchestra's third studio release is just really really great man. Keeping up with the UMO uploads on this channel (expect more to follow!) Ruban Nielson, brother Kody Nielson as well as Jacob Portrait, Riley Geare, Chris Nielson and Duke Aipolani absolutely blew it out of the park with this one. I've got so much nostalgia nestled up against this album i'm just smiling thinking about it. As I had yet to listen to UMO's previous release "II" this was my life in 2015. If you've read any of my descriptions before, you'd know that i'm not very good at reviewing albums. I initially tried to, but i think it's really nice and different to make it more of a personal expression of my feelings towards a release. How it has impacted me. I'm honestly going to say that this album was the the turning point in my music taste and just what i saw as art in general. I think late 2014 i was living it up thinking i was so cool and niche for feeding my ears relentless amounts of future funk and vaporwave (yeah i know yikes). I got to a point where i would only listen to stuff pumped onto soundcloud. Something else i loved to do was download any free album i could get my hands on. Somewhere down the line i got this idea in my head that not enjoying an entire album is disrespectful to the artist. Basically leaving me hating 50% of my phones music and refusing to delete it. Anyway dumb. I'd just recently gotten into records Madvillian being my first and this album happened to be my second.
I think i just love getting lost in all the layers of composition on each of the songs. Not to mention the hypnotic sometimes incomprehensible voice of Ruben. I just love his sense of storytelling in his writing just so endearing and creative. Some of the songs on this album just have this amazing playful sense to them like acid rain especially. With it's bombastic drums and repeating "la la la's" It's just SO GOOD! I love u Ruban
I've really gotta stop writing these when it's late n my brain is mush, sorry AAAAAAAAAA
Favorite track has gotta be a tie between - Ur Life One Night / Like Acid Rain

Pat Chow is a pretty cool punk, alt-rock, grunge band from Perth. Overwhelming care is the bands second full length album and demonstrates a promising look into a pixies-esc face for Perth. solid album.
Also i really really love this album art. I like that it's literally just this cooky flower pot or something, that is just so perfect at the angle the photo has been taken from. The filter/effects on the image left me thinking it was painted for the longest time. GOOD STUFF!
I first found Pat Chow and their October 2018 release when i was sifting through local releases for Perth on Bandcamp. That was while I was at tafe and had only just begun to look into what the local scene had to offer. Honestly I think i remember listening to "Make it Hard" and single, "No strings" and really not liking it. But man that album cover really stuck with me, not to mention the bands name Pat Chow!
So of course some time had passed and i had all but forgotten about the album. That was until RTRfm's radiothon came around. I had been holding off on buying a subscription for at least a week. When during one of the instant prize announcements they mentioned a Pat Chow vinyl and shirt! So not really remembering what the band or specifically album sounded like, i called up and it was all mine! I sat on it for the weekend before i got a chance to swing by the RTR studio and pick up my prize. I actually didn't even know if the shirt would fit me, so it was a nice surprise to see it did. Anyway yeah! i got it and instantly recalled the album and here we are! Coming back to the album enjoying punk a lot more i don't mind it at all!

All wrapped together in one 40 minute, 10 track blessing. I can't really remember when I first heard this album (let alone UMO). It was either a stumble upon after watching "Don't hug me i'm scared" when i was younger. Afterwards being directed to the "Swim and Sleep" music video directed by Becky and Joe. It could have also been part of a Facebook post i remember seeing ages ago, talking about patrician albums. Which included the likes of Joanna Newsom and King Gizz's paper mâché dream balloon. Regardless, this album means a whole lot to me. It was one of the albums i could rely on to comfort me to the brink of sleep on long bus rides home from school. Morning's when i'd be staying somewhere down south in Western Australia especially. It's just such a magical album that knows when it wants to be and how. A misfit after a night out. Sun peering into your eyes as the lights of dawn kiss your face. ahhh so pretty, try it really. This album deserves the golden hour treatment.
Oh also! you would have noticed the really great, revealing cover that this album has. Turns out it's a piece taken by the now passed, Stewart Farrar of his wife Janet. Who happened to be practicing Wicca's, with the album photo being apart of one of Janet's books named "The Witches Bible". A lot of other really pretty photos can be found throughout so i highly recommend.

I also wanted to do a review or idk some sort of personal thoughts or something. But of course I've come down with the sickness. I'll try write a little myself though, before falling back to another review or something.
Keeping up with my trend of Burger Record uploads comes Andy Ferro's stellar first full length album. Besides releases from his band Ranch Ghost and other demos throughout the years. I love this album so much. It's definitely one of my favorites from this year, I especially hold "Birds" very close to heart. What a sweet song. Hopefully i'm better next week so i can do something nicer for the description.
Here's the passage from his Burger Records page. "I’m 24 and I live in Nashville, TN. I was born in London and moved back and forth from there twice. This will be my first release outside of the work I’ve put out with my band Ranch Ghost and a couple of demos that I put up on the internet. \nI really wanted to become faster and more self sufficient in the process of getting music out there for people to hear, so I bought a tape machine and taught myself how to use it as I was recording these songs.\n\nI like to be able to write and record at the same time and end up with something useable if I really get into it. Rather than just a garage-band recording or something like that with all of these accidental magic moments that I would just end up trying to replicate later on. The tape machine granted me that ability.\n\nI recorded a song every morning on an acoustic guitar for about a week then slowly fleshed them out over the next couple of weeks. I played everything on them other than some of the keyboard stuff and percussion. \n\nI play lead guitar in Ranch Ghost, so I deliberately veered away from too much of that. That just wasn’t the point for these. I wanted them to feel kind of stark and close, and lean more on the words and less on guitars. Maybe next time I’ll try and get a band together, though. Or at least have drums on the record. \n\nWhen I felt that I had gotten to a good place with them on my own I gave the tapes to Mitch Jones (Fly Golden Eagle, Thunderbitch, Majestico) to wrap it up at his studio, Lil Bivtown. He’s a keyboard and sound effects guru and his playing and atmospheric additions really helped make it feel like it was finished. "

I thought I'd cleared DADA records of all The Mint Chicks they had but it seems the one i wanted most was the one i missed. I hadn't listened to this entire album till only recently, i'd been living it up on "Hot On Your Heels" and "2010" for the longest time. 2010 especially, what a BANGER.
I dunno, this is just another really great Mint Chicks album that is worth your love and ears.

[Full Album]Shoofin Friend2019-08-02 | Now let's state the obvious, you might have clicked on this because it featured some of the worst cover art you've ever seen right? Yep you're completely right but like anything you can't always judge a book by it's cover. I picked up this album from Salvos in Freo. Scuffed to the max CD, along with Kermit's swamp years and a heap of old surf VHS tapes for a friend. I was in hysterics about how god awful the album art was. I went out on a whim and picked it up. Took the protective tape off the side and was pleasantly surprised. The little cover booklet was actually pretty cool and showed the actual band members of Sally's Grip. Luke, Adam, Sam and Steve. Recorded at Rangemaster studios in Victoria, (whom i may or may not receive some additional information from, very soon).I'm also trying to get in contact with Jade, seeing as her number is on the album credits.
But yeah otherwise, this album is album/ep? is surprisingly ok. I thought it'd be hot garbage, but it's good early 2000's punk-rock (i think it's punk-rock i'm not great with genre's).
this was the response from Rangemaster studio : "Hi there, that was some time ago but I'm still mates with Luke who was the primary songwriter. He can be found here" I'll keep the link for myself and message Luke real soon. He's making some really nice stuff now :)
expect me to update this when i learn more :))

I was a bit iffy about getting it initially, but boy am i glad i did. As the first full-length album release from The Mint Chicks under the Flying Nun Label. The people of 2005 were left shaken up when they were met with this very loud confident sounds of the amazing Mint Chicks. I don't know what more to say, anyway! just listen to the album and enjoy :))
This album does not belong to me i am merely sharing music i have found and enjoyed, thanks :))The Mint Chicks - Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No! [Full Album]Shoofin Friend2019-07-25 | ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE BANDS AND FAVOURITE ALBUMS! HEADS UP! THIS IS NOT THE 2016 REMASTERED VERSION!! The Mint Chick's, Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No! is such an amazing punk album. The second album of the band from 2006, and originally released under the flying nun label in New Zealand. I actually stumbled upon this album (and "Fuck The Golden Youth", which i will also upload at a later date) when i got lost in the city, and found myself in a record shop i'd never heard of. It was DaDa records, and what a great, big, extensive store it is! Two huge levels of packed to the brim Vinyls, CDs, Cassettes, VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, clothes, everything! I was so shocked that not a single person was in the place (apart from the 3 extremely quiet guys working there). The dude on the first level sat quietly watching me as i skimmed through all sorts of cheap 2nd hand DJ records and local stuff. I tried talking to him but he was quite reserved. Think of him like the Grail Knight from Indiana Jones, he looked just like him too. It took me a while but i eventually made my way down to the second level and i was gobsmacked. I expected it to be at least half the size of the floor above, but somehow it was the same size and even MORE filled with all sorts of CDs. It was genuinely sensory overload. Nothing was labelled that well and I had no idea where to begin. So i tried my like talking to the not so old other guy at the counter. He was still a bit timid but we had a great chat about the changing music industry and me repeating how stunned i was that i hadn't heard about a store this thorough even existing in WA. And yet there i was, I wasn't sure if all the CD's on this level were second hand or not though. I think that the majority of them had just been there for a while. So, seeing as i had no idea where to start i just went to different letters of the alphabet and sifted through till i found bands and other musicians i had in mind. Again, at this point i had been waddling around for about 2 hours still having not bought anything. Thank god i had the mint chicks in mind because i found 2 of their albums (As i've already said, sorry i'm pretty tired ahah) . I was so ecstatic i didn't expect to spend anything there but eventually, along with Part Time's PDA.I found myself spending a nice $45. ANYWAY moral of the story is CHECK OUT DADA RECORDS IN PERTH!! really great store. In dire need of love and affection.
The Mint Chicks were an experimental noise rock/power pop group from Auckland, New Zealand consisting of Kody Nielson (vocals, keyboards), Ruban Nielson (guitar, vocals), Michael Logie (bass) and Paul Roper (drums). Formed in 2001, they began by playing punk house parties and low profile shows before being discovered by acclaimed New Zealand independent record label Flying Nun Records. They have since released five records under the Flying Nun banner: "Octagon, Octagon, Octagon EP" (2003), "Anti-Tiger EP" (2004), "F**k The Golden Youth" (2005), "Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!" (2006) and "Screens" (2009), as well as one EP under the label MusicHy.pe, "Bad Buzz" (2010) and a digital self release of "Mintunes" EP (2008) consisting of "8-bit versions" of both previously released songs and tracks from the album Screens. All were produced and recorded by the band's core members Ruban and Kody Nielson, with the exception of Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No! which was produced by the Nielson brothers and their father Chris Nielson at two different home studios. All four original band members met at Orewa College in Orewa, New Zealand, although the band starting moving between Portland, Oregon and Auckland, as the Nielson brothers have dual citizenship in New Zealand and the U.S. Their album "Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!" has achieved huge success in New Zealand, winning several New Zealand Music Awards: Album of the Year, Best Group, Best Rock Album, Best Music Video and Best Album Cover. Shortly afterwards on October 16, 2009, it was announced Michael Logie would be rejoining the band in a post on the band's Twitter. Shortly after the release of the Bad Buzz EP, the band played their final show on 12 March 2010. The show, originally a fundraiser for MusicHy.pe, ended in chaos after Kody Nielson attacked his brother Ruban, dismantled the drumkit and stormed offstage, imploring the crowd to "start your own f**king band". Since disbanding in 2010, Singer Kody Nielson is making music under the alias Opossom with former bassist Michael Logie and Bic Runga. Guitarist Ruban Nielson now fronts Unknown Mortal Orchestra with producer Jacob Portrait. Michael Logie continues his solo project F In Math. Read more on Last.fm.

Here is an excerpt from CHAI's page on Burger Records's website!
CHAI is an adventure where all-things are Pink, a sound that fuses the likings of Basement Jaxx, CSS, and Tom Tom Club, lyrics catered to self-empowerment and re-defining the definition of “kawaii” or cute, and indescribably fun visuals that’ll surelyabsorb you whole! The 4-piece band from Nagoya, Japan consists of identical twins MANA (voc/keys), KANA (gt/cho), YUUKI (ba/cho), and YUNA (dr/cho) bound together in 2015. CHAI’s concept of “NEOkawaii” or new cute derived from personal experiences where they simply did not fit into society’s standard of “cute.” This concept has drawn in audiences world-wide and can be best described in their hit single, “N.E.O.”, from their 1 st album PINK. This adventure would lead them to US indie label Burger Records who released PINK in February 2018 followed by their “We Are CHAI” Tour, their first US tour with performances throughout California as well as several stages at SXSW.
