Final Fantasy VI (SNES) Ending - All Characters
updated
WR is 2m53s874ms by PGHGuitarGuy, so I was roughly half a second off (update: now 2m52600ms, so 1.4s off)
Timelosses:
3s day 1 (1s up to torch, 2 seconds to slow scroll)
~1s day 2 (bad Jason spawn/slow scroll)
~2s day 3 (a couple iffy throws, my B button doesn't function well and I need a new controller, and zombie spawn before last Jason spawn)
All in all a pretty good run, the slow scroll on day 1 was the most costly mistake, I mistakenly got ahead of Jason. The 1 second timeloss up to torch is based on my best time exiting the cabin in the woods which is just barely 43 seconds, but that's not realistic to get consistently. Sometimes the knife or key will spawn a little off and you'll have to cut a few frames, so the timeloss on day 1 is realistically closer to 2.5s
Was a little over a second behind my previous PB of 2m57s at the end of day 1. Day 2s spawns and scrolls are heavily RNG dependent so that timesave is not very realistic to hit.
Sub 2:50 might barely be possible but is extremely unlikely between all the luck required for good item spawns, zombie spawns (and lack thereof), and Jason spawns (combined with screen scrolls). It all has to work out just right and execution has to be perfect, but this game is just too random. It can take hundreds of resets before you even get the right seed, and then you instantly lose it because the knife spawns badly.
Goal is just world record for the time being, but a 2:51 would be really nice. I'm just happy to be improving at this rate as I have only recently started practicing. Still, it takes sometimes 1,000 resets in one session just to get a PB. The route is easy in general, it's all about the RNG at this level.
Was a bit lazy with some strats since it was a derust, there's some really easy little timesaves I could add in but I'm not one of those people who just goes for all the fastest stuff from the get go, I add them in as my times improve, it's just more fun to me that way.
1:19 was my goal 3 years ago, so this run doesn't mean much. But it is nice to break the 1:20 barrier on a derust run. My goal is 1:16 for now.
Update: Well, I guess it's more like 1:13 now lol. I could go for record but I think my days of grinding for records, and in general, are over. I'm OK just being in the top 3.
The timing method was changed to gaining control of Link because the community had a vote on skipping the intro and opting for a pre-made file before leaving Link's house.
I didn't agree with either one but it is what it is. I'll continue to run and include the intro in all of my runs, but it won't affect the new timing method. I will however gain a 4 frame advantage over those who skipped because Link is further ahead after he gets out of bed. This time was formerly 1:19:31, which was my goal time in December 2017. Some things got in the way, like finishing college.
This was an OK run that I got on my last attempt during stream. 33:12 (actually 33:11) on these splits are from my first attempt. Since getting back into Ganonless a little over a week ago I've improved my PB over 2 minutes since late 2015 (was 2nd place at the time, but the category wasn't very optimized yet)
This run is nothing too special, with some pretty nasty timelosses in the early section. Pretty good Fire Temple but also still improvable, had some bad movement in spots and hadn't learned the double chu HESS in maze room which is really easy. Basically lost the 32 because of 2.5s timeloss from equipping tunic late thinking I would have 0:04 on the timer, but I had 0:03 because it was a glitched half heart and I didn't notice. But I'll beat this soon.
15s in child
6s stupid goron (mostly my fault because I didn't get the damage off Anju and tried to use him)
3s frog
3s enter fire
10s on hammer (improvable gold)
5s final split
Probably going to try and grab a mid 32, or maybe record at some point. Just need a couple small optimizations (which do add up quite a bit)
Choked 1:13 at Ganon, but terrible run even if I didn't (Spirit BK skip was extremely good though). Random no reset run I did during a short stream. Lots of timeloss through the whole run. Mirror shield through Twinrova was very solid though, and I golded rova by 0.8 seconds (split late and re-timed after). The RNG I got was insane and I'll almost always lose some time compared to that. About tied my Mirror Shield gold as well despite doing 9 explosive hover instead of 8 like my previous PB did. I think at the moment my sum of best can go down quite a bit, into low 1:11. I only recently got it into sub 1:12. Getting 1:12 would be much, much easier than when I got 1:15 years back, both because the route is a lot easier and because I've improved since then.
Main timelosses:
20s child section (10s on escape because of the neutral position mishap)
20s hoverboots
10s bongo
20s enter wasteland
10-15s forest
20s ganondorf (18s to one stalfos)
15s ganon (rip 1:13)
Smaller timelosses:
5s on bombs
5s on hookshot
5s on collapse
10s loss on the first split because I had ess mapped as neutral position, likely because I was holding it when I reset as it's like that the whole escape segment until I'm setting up the wess (can see on the input viewer the stick isn't perfectly in place). I stop to hit L+R+Start to reset the controller and end up pausing on top of that as a result. This can also happen pretty much randomly when controllers get worn out, so hopefully won't become too common.
Just came back to speedrunning OoT in the past couple weeks. Since my WR last year, not a lot has changed strat wise besides the new "Boatkey" skip in Shadow Temple, an amazing new trick where you superslide directly to the boss loading zone. Of course, I do it with 1 bomb superslide and no pause buffering because that's how I roll (pun intended).
Other than that I've just improved, and that's why the goal is 1 hour and 12 minutes. This run and its timelosses just show how possible it is. At the moment I think a 1:12:3x is manageable, but I will probably be done for awhile at 1:12.
I could be doing DC hover route which saves 20-25 seconds, but some of that time is lost doing Spirit Jump over hover (on top of being hard to do consistantly as fast) and it's easy to lose time on DC hover. It's an easy trick (in my opinion) but I think the route is more fun without it, and I don't need it to get the time I want.
There are some minor glitches in the game feed around 30-40 minutes in. It's one of the many problems with my laptop which is why I'm raising money for a new one.
Shoutouts to my man TripppAU for two $20 donations during the stream. He's a solid runner from Australia who continues to improve. Follow him on twitch (TripppAU).
Also, follow CountLG on Twitch, he's up and coming and just beat this with a 1:14:10 recently.

After a 6 month hiatus, I come back to do runs for a couple days and took back WR! I haven't had WR since my 1:15:59 on November 3rd, 2016, which was beaten May of this year. It was the longest standing No IM/WW record, possibly the longest standing record in OoT speedrunning history.
Quite a few new strats since my old run including a more recent Boat Skip and the introduction of the "bombs early" route for 1.0 which goes to DC starting adult section and does Shadow and Spirit back to back. Child section has some updated strats and this was my first sub 17 child section, though it could've been better (my best is a 16:53 currently).
Pretty good run up to Minuet/Hookshot, and then pretty strong from there until Forest Temple. One of the worst mistakes was falling off the tree in Forest. It was a very clumsy mistake considering I was trying to play it safe, and overall this was my worst Forest Temple in any PB for years. The fall alone costs 15s. This was just about the only thing I didn't really practice since coming back x) I normally do a sharper down left turn, but it won't be an issue from now on. Overall lost 40 seconds in Forest, so this was very bad.
This run is otherwise pretty solid and was capable of sub 1:14, my current goal time. I didn't think I would be this close to achieving it after 3 days back. I could get sub 1:13:30 with a better good run, but once I get a 1:13 I will probably be satisfied for awhile. There's thoughts about sub 1:13, but I'm turning my attention to All Dungeons for now.
Timelosses:
5s in child section (Bad rupee route movement and extra buffering on owl skip)
10s on Minuet segment (Failed to clip past mido with first megaflip, and goofed up sidehopping behind the moblin)
12s on Hookshot (Farming for extra bombs and bad Dampe race)
40s(!) in Forest Temple (Falling off the tree, bad SoT block skip, bad first Bow Stalfos. Gold is very unoptimized)
~5-10 to Twinrova [RNG] (Pretty good fight but nothing special, just a double or quickshot could save me 5 seconds. My gold here is basically perfect (quickshot double followed by fast double) so it's not easy to tie.
~10s on other small errors throughout the run (mostly movement related)
And a few seconds to megasidehop trial skip (at the time I thought it wasn't much slower)
PS: I split late on Zelda, so there is a fake gold on Master Sword. I fixed the splits back after the run.
Also, the !help relates to a fundraiser I'm running, attempting to make some money in a time where I'm broke and still on the hunt for a job out of college. I thought about re-recording the run without the splits on the side, so hopefully it isn't too distracting.
Although this is pretty easy to yolo, I like how simple and quick it is for consistency. And since you generally are on in game time to make it to Hyrule Castle, you still have more than enough time, so there's no reason to really not do it in that instance (GSR and MST for instance)
There are some small things that need updating here and there, I didn't do the fast OI cancel in Water Temple because I'd forgotten the timing and wanted to play it safe. I also didn't do Volvagia with 36 seconds which wastes 4 sec over going in with 40. We'll have it soon :)
Some might find use with this, it's pretty easy. Do the angle setup and megasidehop right, hold down right as he hits the ground, target and go neutral. Gainer at the end.
Hold up and mash A to roll, then just sidehop right. Once he lands, you can just move down and roll down right, you land in front of the doorway.
The hookshot pull is a little precise, you have 2 frames to roll.
As for why I equipped bombs, it was a mistake. I thought we had an equip for bombs here but we actually have to do that before, because hookshot isn't equipped after adult Jabu.
Here's another backup from Tsundere: youtube.com/watch?v=rwCBmkhzqbg
You have to flick shield or untarget/retarget after landing to avoid doing a crooked backflip. According to Smash, he never had to do that, so it might only happen on N64?
You want to backflip before it explodes/as it's exploding, then equip hover boots to shorten the backflip. This keeps your vertical upward angle nice and straight. It's much easier to do it this way compared to the other method, and you can see the bomb.
You can instant shield drop the bomb if you want, it doesn't make much of a difference. Maybe 1 frame functions differently in the whole roll. Although a nice strat, it's not faster than pulling the bomb earlier, but you can consistently do 1 less hover to make up time.
Latest PB in All Dungeons. This is a new route which skips Ganon by warping to the end credits, and saves 2 minutes or so. It is only faster for N64, as beating Ganon is faster for Wii VC.
This route is a lot of fun both playing through, and watching it, as there are very few cutscenes in the run compared to several other routes in OoT categories.
For only my 3rd completed run, this is a decent time and came sort of out of nowhere. I didn't utilize some faster tricks yet, but have since (down A Minuet skip for example). The cuccos were a disgrace and cost me 25 seconds, but I lost 45 seconds to my best child section. I also opted for the bomb chest in Spirit Temple which loses about 15? I forget. I was not used to killing armos without magic, but it turned out to not be that much different.
Goal is a mid 1:24 for now, so to cut off minute or so from this run. Can save about a minute in child (worst section of the run), and then another minute throughout adult. My Eyeball Frog segment was also a confused mess (that'll happen when it's one of your first runs)
Not a very precise spot to aim. This may be useful for people who don't like ess tapping and are good with aiming the hookshot.
The range is a couple pixels wide, just aim close to the green part of the wall, but not quite touching it. A bit left of where I aim is ok too.
Did make it to the shield, just didn't feel the need to include
Done with the new bombs early route, including hookshot jump for Shadow early.
Going to go for 1:14.
My last 1 extra pause was before hover boot equip.
Easily the fastest boat skip anyone has ever done. Unloaded room movement was made faster later in the year, but this is still crazy fast.
I had been hit by a car the previous month and was still recovering from a bad concussion. I got back into OoT a little too quickly which led to a severe burnout on a mental and physical level. Had several sub 2 paced runs die late into the run a couple weeks after this.
Truthfully there was also some added pressure competing alongside ZFG, regularly getting 1,000 views, etc. I just was not prepared for any of that, I averaged 20-30 viewers normally at the time. But getting back into OoT that quickly after the accident was a bad idea, but at the same time it helped me recover psychologically as an escape.
UPDATE: As of May 7th, 2017, beating Ganon is no longer a requirement for All Dungeons (PB/former WR is 1:25:39 with this route). An updated version of that route happened as well and current PB is 1:20:37 (1s off record lol)
It started off a pretty good run, but as of the Master Sword split it became terrible. A lot of splits in the run have nasty mistakes, including me forgetting to do the ess tap at Spirit CS skip that I normally do and as a result did the slower setup. My brain also completely exploded while trying to set up Forest Temple boss key skip. There's lots of just crazy weird movement errors. Some parts of this run that are alright though. Oh, and I paused like 20 times at Shadow BK skip. I actually forgot I even existed for a moment there.
There is a surprise at void warp.
Finally did it, got the 1:15 in No IM/WW (1:15:59.43)

This is an old route with old strats, but is still the run I'm most proud of. It's easily the hardest GSR had ever been. Besides being chu perfect, I actually did this run bomb perfect too. No explosives wasted and only an absolute minimum of them.
This was intended to be a derust, as I hadn't played for a week or so (this was my first attempt since). As a result, there are some mistakes and sloppiness in the run, but it's solid overall. I was also adjusting to an old controller of mine that I brought back from the dead.
Three parts of the run in particular went poorly: Boat Skip (15s), this was due to it not doing equip skip, which was recently found but wasn't very consistent yet, and some extra pauses on Shadow BK Skip. Chu unlock, 15s, which I normally do unbuffered, but was being safe, and I had a safe attack. Double Knuckles were not good either (10s), although a little extra timeloss came from not having enough bombs to hover trials skip.
Had good RNG throughout the run, which helped make up for some of the timeloss. I could've not lost 15s on chu unlock, but then didn't get a double rova or first try bombs, the good rng saved this run. Got all the bombs I needed, a double Rova, and a fast spirit hover despite the slow chu unlock, with the guay not coming.
Finished the run bomb perfect after Spirit, going through with 11 bombs. I didn't skip HESS into Dorf's room because I was very confident that I would hit the 1 bomb superslide into Ganon. I hit 95% of standing 1 bomb superslides, but there was still a small chance at missing, especially under pressure.
Although this run wasn't perfect (could've been 25s faster easily), I had been working hard trying to get 1:15 for 7 months. A lot of difficult changes were going on in my life along the way. So I was reaching the end of my rope by the time I got this run. Controller issues didn't help, but I'd dug up an old controller and got this on my first run with it. Just seeing 1:15 was good enough, and I'll never forget this run. Somehow it meant more to clutch the 1:15 compared to getting a slightly lower time. That and finishing bomb perfect just made this run so special to me.
I think it has aged pretty well. There are some things that may seem odd like my double knuckles. I was a bit superstitious about positioning and such and did a crouch stab door setup which I'd borrowed from Cma. The practice rom came out at the end of this year and that's when it became easier to iron some things out, especially movement timings. I did odd sidehops leaving Temple of Time that I thought were faster or even, but it was losing about a second to rolls each time.
The noise at 1:27 is my windows noise lol
