Continuing eastwards from the Shoreham to Eastbourne stretch which opened in May 2022, the trail route starts on the promenade at Eastbourne Pier.
At Sovereign Harbour marina the trail crosses the lock gates, with an alternative route if both gates are closed. From Pevensey Bay Sailing Club to Pevensey Bay the trail is mostly upon the beach, for easier walking it then uses the adjacent Coast Road towards Normans Bay, though the shingle beach is within reach in the coastal margin.
Between Normans Bay and Cooden the trail again follows the beach, before joining the promenade at Bexhill. At Galley Hill it follows the cycle walkway along the coast to Hastings.
At Hastings Old Town, the trail enters the Hastings Country Park, part of the High Weald National Landscape. This is very undulating terrain and woodland environment with several steep sided glens.
At Fairlight village, the route uses inland village roads to return to the open and undulating clifftop path to Cliff End, where the trail descends to follow the seawall at Pett Level to Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.
The trail then follows the access road adjacent to the beach through the reserve to the mouth of the River Rother and turns inland to finish at Rye Harbour village.
