Despite a curfew, protests seeking justice for Daunte Wright continued on April 13, 2021, two days after he was killed by police. Following a large protest that marched across Brooklyn Center, masses protested outside the Brooklyn Center police station for the third straight night amid a large intra-agency police force bent on suppressing protests and clearing the streets. Unicorn Riot live streamed for about two and a half hours.

Background: On April 11, 2021, former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter fatally shot unarmed 20-year-old Daunte Wright during a traffic stop. Community outrage at Wright’s killing was swift and widespread despite the massive National Guard and police build-up for the Derek Chauvin trial happening just a few miles away from where Wright was killed.

Wright's killer was later convicted of both first and second-degree manslaughter and sentenced to 24 months in prison on February 18, 2022. After serving 16 months in Minnesota Correctional Facility-Shakopee, Potter was released from prison. Potter then moved to Wisconsin and gets paid to deliver presentations at law enforcement conferences.
