Shortly after sunrise, our guide was notified of a lion pair that was at the edge of the game reserve defending their territory. We raced over to see the end of the event.
The fence on the right side of the frame is the eastern edge of the Karongwe game reserve and is electrified. Parallel to this fence runs a road and on the other side of the road is another game reserve with its own electrified fence. Before we arrived, another group of lions came up to the fence bordering the adjacent game reserve. This caused the pair of lions shown here to become agitated. They were diligent in reinforcing the border of their territory with their low-guttural throat sounds.
What is shown here is the tail end of that encounter since we were not able to see the lions in the adjacent game reserve.
