Borderlands 2: Most Overrated Weapon

Prior to the community patch, this weapon could be very powerful, but it was not powerful if you had anything but the fore grip accessory, because this accessory effectively tripled the DPS. With that accessory, it was very viable with nearly every character.
After the community patch, the weapon gains many buffs including projectile speed, damage, fire rate, splash radius, and ammo consumption. It can no longer spawn with projectiles, but it absolutely does not need the extra projectiles after the boosts.
The weapon also now benefits from grenade damage boosts, so it becomes a top tier weapon on Axton, and probably Krieg as well. This is now one the top tier weapons on Axton.

I am using my farming Zer0 that was built up from level 1 all the way to OP 8 as a part of my Fresh Start and Journey to 100% series.
In this video, we are able to find the Legendary Dahl Hornet and Torgue Kerblaster. I then begin to look for the Bonus Package and Thunderball Fist.
I am currently specced out for a Sniper play style, but throughout the series I will spec into a Melee build when appropriate.

This weapon has increased burst size over a normal Dahl assault rifle. It has very low recoil, and a relatively deep magazine. The community patch increases its base damage, fire rate, and burst size. This brings the base damage more in line with the non-unique Dahl assault rifles that are of similar build.
The weapon was viable prior to the community patch, and the community patch does a lot to bring it more in line with a lot of other unique weapons as far as its potency goes. In addition to the direct buffs to the weapon, it also benefits from the global critical hit buff to ARs and the increased ammo pick ups.
This weapon definitely does not suck, but it is a little behind some high tier weapons that are available. I'm happy to see this weapon receive a substantial buff because Roland was a fun character to play in Borderlands 1, and one that I enjoyed.

This weapon has a much lower base damage in comparison to many other Jakobs snipers, but it has a massive critical hit bonus. This bonus is extremely effective with the Bee. This weapon has always been effective, but it seemed less effective on Zer0 than other high tier snipers.
The weapon has always seemed somewhat lackluster on Zer0, because Zer0's capstone sniper skill, Critical Ascension, pairs better with a higher base damage as compared to a low base damage with a high crit modifier. This is because CA boosts base damage, so on the Hawkeye, it has less base damage to multiply. This is very noticeable when using multiple stacks of CA.
Additionally, the Hawkeye has much less recoil than other Jakobs snipers, which makes the weapon much easier to wield and achieve a high rate of fire with. The Hawkeye will always have a very increased zoom as well. The community patch adds a very nice skin, too!
The community patch is going to add a significant amount of base damage, which makes this weapon pair with CA much more effectively. This weapon definitely does not suck, and its main drawback has been severely mitigated.

If thrown from deception, all shots fired from the floating gun actually gain the deception bonus, making them very powerful. Additionally, the shots from the reload while in deception do gain a One Shot One Kill bonus with Zer0, making it even more effective.
Hyperius is a raid boss from the first campaign DLC, Captain Scarlett and her Pirate's Booty. He is susceptible to being instagibbed by Zer0's skill B0re. In this video, I attempt to kill Hyperius using this method.

This weapon has identical stats to a purple Tediore shotgun prior to the community patch, and community patch adds an additional amount of damage, which makes the weapon much more effective as a traditional shotgun with all characters, and especially helps Zer0 secure one shot kills on bad ass enemies.
This weapon is ammo efficient in that it only uses one ammo per shot, but if you're using the throw reload liberally, you can run out of ammo.
I think the community patch helped make this weapon even more viable for every character- and has pushed it to a really good place on Zer0. It is able to get OSOKills from deception, and the throw reload can always be very powerful.
This shotgun pairs well with the Bee, in that the throw reload can gain the amp damage bonus, too.
This weapon definitely doesn't suck after the community patch has increased its damage.

It has very unique projectiles that linger if an enemy is not nearby, eventually rising up and exploding. Without the newest version of the community patch, this weapon has one of the absolute worst spread patterns in all of gaming.
The older versions of the community patch add additional pellets, but that alone was not enough to make this weapon viable. It now has several changes, including increased splash radius and benefiting from grenade damage. The biggest buff, in my opinion, however, was the change of the spread pattern from something that was nearly unusable to a very concise spread that is even effective at range.
The weapon can actually be used to stop exploders and other charging enemies now, which is wonderful. Additionally, this weapon can get critical hits and has grenade damage, now- which is pretty awesome.
This weapon went from a trash tier shotgun to one that is very powerful on Axton and good on other characters.

Without the community patch, this variety of pistol, and Etech pistols in general, are very, very poor. They take time to explode after impact. They cannot crit. They do not grenade damage boosts, and their stats are generally worse than comparable purple tier pistols that are not etechs.
The community patch increases the fire rate, makes the pistols deal grenade damage, and allows the projectiles to deal damage on impact.
This has turned a terrible, boring weapon into something that is very fun and quite powerful with Axton.
It is still incapable of getting critical hits, but it makes up for that with the grenade damage boosts that it can achieve on Axton.
This is a weapon that will excel with Axton and possibly Krieg, but one one that will be lame on Zer0 because it can't crit.
With that in mind, the weapon definitely no longer sucks- and I may need to test what some other manufacturers have going as far as their Etech pistols.

Digistruct Peak enemies do not resist corrosive damage, and my two main damaging weapons are a corrosive Pimpernel and Lyuda. I am using a Legendary sniper class mod for most of the video. I do use a Chaotic Neutral Rogue com at certain times in order to stack Critical Ascension. I am also using the Chere-Amie to get my health back when needed in combination with my Slag O-Negative grenade.
OMGWTH always drops a Pearlescent rarity item, so I figured he'd be a solid place to farm the Bekah, which is a Pearlescent Jakobs assault rifle. The community patch allows the boss to drop generation 2 pearls including the Bekah and Godfinger.

The Infinity does not consume ammo, and has a magazine size of one. It has decent damage and fire rate stats, but lower than that of a comparable Anarchist pistol. Additionally, to compensate for the infinite ammo and magazine size, the weapon has a unique spread pattern that makes it tougher to get consistent damage with.

The Anarchist has approximately 18.5% more damage than the Infinity with the community patch, and a ~26.7% higher fire rate with the community patch. Reload speed is something that Infinity will always win on, and that's why its theoretical dps is relatively competitive. When using Zer0's action skill however, you will almost always have time to reload. This makes reload speed less of an important feature for Zer0 in specific, who happens to be the best user of the Infinity pistol.
The pistol does synergize very well with Zer0's One Shot One Kill, Precision, Rising Shot, and other skills, but it doesn't synergize as well with his action skill as other weapons with higher damage can.
The community patch tightens the spread significantly, which is extremely helpful for the weapon's practical output- especially on characters other Zer0 which have a harder time boosting accuracy.
Overall, the Infinity is an overrated pistol for every thing that it is recommended for it. Zer0's Sniper, Melee, and Shotgun builds all easily outclass it as far as mobbing speed, even when using the Bee. Even when compared only to other pistols, it is far behind the Ladyfist, other high tier Vladof pistols with higher damage, and some non unique pistols as well.
Because of Hyperion SMGs and their laser accuracy- I'd imagine that they actually synergize better with Zer0 than does the Infinity pistol. The Infinity is a better option with Zer0 than rocket launchers are. After the general AR buffs and the specific AR buffs in the community patch, the Infinity is now a worse option than many ARs on Zer0, too. Before the community patch, it was ahead of many ARs, but not all.
The Infinity is certainly a viable option, but it is far behind other options. It doesn't suck, because it is viable, but it does definitely suck in comparison to a wide variety of different weapons on Zer0.

Pyro Pete is a raid boss from the second campaign DLC, Mister Torgue's Campaign of Carnage. He is a raid boss that has a lot of health, but isn't quite as aggressive or difficult as some of the other raid bosses in the game.
Zer0 can kill Pete with a wide variety of weapons. In this video, we compare a bunch of different legendary, unique, and Seraph weapons in order to see which are going to be Zer0's best options for dispatching this raid boss.
We take a look at the Infinity, as well as other legendary Vladof weapons like the Lyuda and Shredifier. We take a look at a legendary Dahl Pitchfork, but also a non unique and a Sandhawk. We look at the legendary Hyperion SMG, and some other Hyperion weaponry including the Invader and Lady Fist.
I also take a look at the Droog and see how it compares in two different rarities. We also look at the Patriot. The Jakobs Muckamuck is also covered.
In the end, nothing can compare to the Lyuda, and I was able to set a new World Record against Pete using the Lyuda without the community patch applied.

He appears about 3/4 of the way through the Washburne Refinery. In order to get all the way to Hyperius- I use our newly acquired Godfinger, that was gotten from Digistruct Peak.
While farming for the Godfinger, I did have a surveyor that got stuck in a wall half, and that ruined one of our farming runs. I want to farm for a Legendary Norfleet rocket launcher to ensure that no Surveyors will ever be able to hide from me again.
In this video- I finally get lucky and actually get a Norfleet to drop. The problem is- it's in the wrong element. And that's a real shame. I don't imagine I'll ever get much use out of the fire variant, but time will tell.
If I do go farm for a Corrosive or Shock one in the future, I expect I'll try farming Vermivorous the Invincible, the Varkid raid boss, instead of Hyperius for a change of pace.
On the bright side, I have a lot of fun goofing around with the Godfinger.

This quest requires quite a bit of work in order to get to a about a dozen pirate chests at the end of the run. I find a few legendary items including a Neogenator and Legendary Hunter class mod.
During the farming, I have to go the Magnys Lighthouse, and decide to kill DJ Tanner. He does actually drop a Sham shield, and during the video I was under the impression that it might be a good Sham.
It's actually one of the worst Shams you can get, at 79% absorb rate. So that's a bit of a bummer. In this video- I don't really find any gear worth keeping at all, which is a real bummer. I was thinking that one of the Lieutenants could drop the Manly Man shield, but they cannot.

Without the community patch, it is a terrible weapon and one that was absolutely disappointing to find and use. Obviously it looks cool- and I like the idea, but it was just performed so poorly.
The community patch adds a significant amount more damage, which at least allows it to do the most damage on a traditional critical hit shot. The newest version of the community patch gives the weapon the Jakobs barrel. This allows the weapon to actually have a decent sight picture, which I think helps the weapon tremendously.
The newest version of the patch seems to have mitigated the recoil and accuracy recovery problems a little bit as well, again easing the use of the weapon. It also added a little bit more damage still, which is always welcome. It's awesome to see over 3 million on the card.
It no longer sucks, which is awesome. It is still not great with Critical Ascension, given its fire rate. With this in mind, it's probably best to use this weapon for deception shots only if you're going to actively carry it in your load out.

This DLC is an excellent place to farm for a lot of different gear, because the train can bring in such a wide variety of high tier gear, from class mods, to grenades, to relics, to weapons. In this video, I am able to find two pretty solid E-Tech snipers, one with a good grip and good element, but a bad accessory, and another that is missing both a matching grip and a beneficial accessory.
I do find, however, a really great Sniper stockpile relic that is my new best relic for increasing sniper ammo capacity. Additionally, because the run to the snowman is so long, I decided it would be beneficial to farm for a Fabled Tortoise at a low level so I could use a shield to increase my speed when I don't really need a shield. Seems to work great for this run in particular.

The patch adds a number of new changes, and in this video I explore some of the new skins that unique grenades received. In an effort to see what the new skin on the Magic Missile looks like, I farm the various wizards in the Lair of Infinite Agony for quite some time before finally finding a Magic Missile.
I decided to farm for a Magic Missile because it was an item I did not yet have, and one that I wanted to have- even if I don't plan to use it that much. I think it's a good item to keep in our pack, just in case I ever find myself in a situation where I cannot reach an enemy normally.

In this video- I have exceptionally poor luck getting a legendary item to drop from Hyperius. With farming though, there is going to be an element of randomness to it. We were pretty lucky to get a nice Godfinger in the last video, so I'll take my bad luck lumps in this video. It's unfortunate, but that's just how farming goes sometimes.

This weapon, notoriously, has the lowest accuracy in the game- at 1. The weapon has a similar homing effect to the Dahlminator. As projectiles leave the weapon, they break off in a seemingly random direction, and eventually hone in on an enemy.
This effect can be especially irritating when trying to attack a priority target or one that has been debuffed with slag or Death Mark, because sometimes the bullets will simply not attack your intended target. This will happen even if you try to aim the gun at a particular enemy.
This weapon got a significant boost as a part of the community patch. It has increased damage, increased fire rate, decreased ammo consumption, and an increased projectile count. This gives the weapon a solid DPS.
It is still slow to get to enemies compared to other pistols, but does enable a more passive playstyle. This weapon got an extreme buff, and it no longer sucks- which is pretty impressive- because it definitely sucked before hand.
The community patch also allows the weapon to drop from other loot sources than Tubbies, including OMGWTH out in Digistruct Peak.

Compared to a normal Jakobs barreled Jakobs pistol, it has increased damage and critical hit modifiers, but it has a much lower fire rate. The weapon also has increased recoil and possibly weapon sway. Without the patch, the weapon is viable, but it is outclassed by most other options.
With the patch, the gun gains additional Damage and a much higher fire rate. After the patch, the gun can at least out speed Jakobs snipers, which is a huge improvement for the weapon and it allows the pistol to not be completely outclassed by snipers.
With Zer0, snipers are still always going to be stronger, but that doesn't mean that the Unforgiven sucks. It's definitely powerful enough to warrant its use, and it's a lot more fun to use now that its fire rate isn't atrocious.
The gun definitely no longer sucks. Happy to have found one on my farming character.

I am using a sniper build in order to farm the dragons, making heavy use of the Zer0's capstone skill from his sniper tree- Critical Ascension. Combined with the legendary Bee shield, Lyuda rifle, and the Bone of the Ancients, we are able to kill the Dragons fairly quickly.
I was very disappointed to learn that the Alignment class mods, like the Rogue COM, do not drop from the Ancient Dragons of Destruction, as I was also looking for one of those.
I did find an absolutely excellent Citrine Muckamuck during these kills. With the community patch applied, the Dragons always drop 4 gemstone weapons.
I am also able to find a few Seekers, a Stinger, and a couple Seraph Omens, I believe.

He's not really a challenge for Sniper Zer0, so long as you have the Lyuda solid skill build. With a perfect bee, he becomes even easier.
I use the Chere-Amie to help get my help back when I need to get my health back in certain situations. Additionally, I use a Slag Pimpernel to occasionally slag Pete, but I also slag him with the Slag O Negative grade, which can be farmed from Pete. I do find a couple legendary or orange rarity items during this video.
There are a number of different Seraph items that drop from Pete, including multiple Seraph shields including the Big Boom Blaster, Pun-Chee, Sponge, and Blockade- which all do drop during the video.
The best item that I find during this video is going to be a perfect fuse time Slag Crossfire, with a lobbed delivery system. We also find another couple Seraph grenades, including the Meteor Shower.
The Lyuda is by far the best weapon to kill Pete with as Zer0. I plan do a video in the future comparing different weapons killing Pete with Zer0 to really illustrate just how powerful the Lyuda is. It's truly head and shoulders above other options.

The Infection greatly benefits from the global DOT buff with the community patch. The Infection also benefitted from a substantial buff to the weapons base damage and the DPS.
With these buffs, the Infection becomes a surprisingly potent weapon at OP 8. It has a much longer effective range than the average pistol in Borderlands 2, but it is a little slower to kill than some other high tier pistols because you have to wait on the damage over time. I believe it to be best with Maya, but I think Gaige could probably use it well, too.
The gun definitely no longer sucks.

Looking at the card, the Madhous!, it appears to be a straight upgrade over a normal Bandit Mashine Gun, but the Madhous! also has a unique firing pattern. The bullets from the Madhous! take the form of seemingly random arcs that do normally converge at some distance in front of the wielder of the weapon. Upon bouncing, these projectiles split into smaller projectiles and then begin to move faster.
The community patch provided several buffs to the Madhous!, even though it wasn't directly buffed like some weapons. Its critical hit damage penalty was removed, all Bandit ARs were buffed, and AR ammo pickups grant more ammo now. This weapon went from viable to powerful with the community patch, and it definitely doesn't suck. Additionally, it now also drops from Mad Mike in the Bloodshot Stronghold.
I believe Zer0 is a very good match for this weapon, because he can make it much more accurate, and it pairs nicely with b0re, and his critical hit bonuses.

This spread is very desirable for a shotgun, because it makes hitting critical hits more consistent than with a randomly distributed shotgun spread.
Before the community patch, this weapon had its damage slightly lowered to compensate for the better accuracy. The community patch removes this damage penalty and makes the weapon even more competitive with a Quad, traditionally the best non elemental Jakobs shotgun.
The damage still has less potential than a quad at point blank range, but the Triquetra is more consistent at pretty much every other range. It is a very strong and consistent weapon after the community patch, and it definitely doesn't suck. I'd say it's a very high tier shotgun.

The Gub was a decent weapon before the community patch, being plenty capable of dispatching enemies at OP 8. It has a ridiculously large magazine.
The Gub gains additional damage and fire rate in the community patch, making it an even more potent weapon than it was before hand. The Gub definitely doesn't suck with the community patch, and the patch brings it more in line with some more powerful pistols.

It is the only sniper that has a shotgun like pellet count, and in Borderlands The Pre-Sequel, it received an extra pellet. The community patch brings that extra pellet to Borderlands 2. This makes an already strong sniper more comparable to the top tier snipers in the game.
This weapon greatly benefits from skills like Precision and Velocity. The boost to Critical Ascension has also helped the weapon significantly.

It has very unique projectiles that linger if an enemy is not nearby, eventually rising up and exploding. The weapon has one of the absolute worst spread patterns in all of gaming.
Even after receiving a significant damage boost and a pellet count increase, the weapon still sucks compared to most shotguns. It's pretty surprising that even such a substantial potential DPS increase isn't enough to overcome the irredeemable spread pattern.
The spread pattern is rectangle shape, and it's very impractical, and even with its damage increases it remains among the worst weapons in the game.
It still does not get grenade damage- which is severely disappointing.

I begin farming this item from Donkey Mong, but decide to move on to Bagman after having some trouble finding Donkey Mong consistently in the Eridium Blight.

I am looking for the Legendary Pitchfork, because it is a fun weapon with the community patch- and it is actually farmable from a boss other than the raid boss now, Prospector Zeke.
Prospector Zeke is out in the Tundra Express, not far from Tiny Tina's cave. I find it best to start at the farm house in order to farm him quickly.

Without the patch, the weapon is underpowered because it cannot get crits and does not receive grenade damage boosts. The weapon fires very quickly, but recoil management can be a problem when firing at a high rate.
The community patch adds a significant amount of base damage, but also allows the gun to get grenade damage boosts. This makes the weapon excel with Axton. It also fixes what seems to be a glaring oversight for a weapon that literally fires grenades.
While the weapon is certainly not a top tier assault rifle or weapon with the community patch, it does become viable, which is a huge improvement over what it was. This weapon definitely no longer sucks.

This gun cannot get critical hits and does not benefit from grenade damage. It is very under powered when compared to a lot of other explosive assault rifles without the patch.
The patch added a significant amount of damage and fire rate, and it reduced the ammo cost. It made this weapon much, much more efficient. It still can't get critical hits and it doesn't have grenade damage boosts- but it is still a very powerful weapon despite those two draw backs.
I am pleasantly surprised with this weapon, and I don't think it's quite over powered, either. This weapon definitely doesn't suck anymore, and I think that's a fabulous improvement over the really disappointing weapon that existed without the patch.

Without the community patch, the Evil Smasher is significantly worse than even a green rarity Torgue assault rifle. With the buffs from the community patch, the Evil Smasher becomes a usable weapon that is comparable to purple rarity Torgue assault rifles.
The special effect of the Evil Smasher was severely nerfed in an effort to ensure that it will never transfer to another weapon. it is definitely good that it's not transferable to other weapons now, but being unable to switch to a slagging weapon when using the special effect is definitely something that holds the weapon back.
This weapon can get critical hits, so it also benefits from the global boost to critical hit damage. It also benefits from the increased AR ammo pickups.
Overall- the weapon doesn't suck, necessarily- but it's outclassed by more consistent weapons.

In order to farm Terra, I am using a fire Lyuda, Bee shield, Rogue class mod, and a slag Crossfire grenade. I also have a Pimpernel in Fire and Slag, as well as a Moxxi rifle to recover health.
After dozens of kills on Terramorphous, I was finally able to find that perfect legendary roid shield that I have been looking for.
We we will now do some farming with Melee Zer0 in future videos.

The grenade has a unique delivery system that teleports child grenades to "nearby" enemies. While most Hyperion grenades are singularity grenade, the Nasty Surprise is an MIRV grenade, which adds to its peculiarity.
The unfortunate part about this unique delivery system that it sometimes sends child grenades to enemies that you are not actively trying to damage.
It is definitely powerful enough to kill standard enemies, assuming you get the child grenades to actually land on that enemy. There doesn't really seem to be a way to precisely influence which enemies will get targeted by the child grenades, either.
I like this grenade's uniqueness, and I think it does have some uses. If there are ton of enemies- it can be an effective carpet bomber, but probably less so than a Bonus Package or Meteor Shower. It can be an effective weapon to healthgate with around a corner using a moxxi weapon, but a chain lightning or many homing grenades could do that, too. You can definitely use it to kill an enemy that is out of LOS, and it does get there quicker than a homing grenade in most cases- so maybe that's its niche.
Regardless, it's kind of hard to say this grenade doesn't suck when it's not reliably laying damage down on an enemy that you've debuffed. It's alright. When it works, it works pretty well. But because it's so unreliable, it's definitely not great.
I quite like it with Zer0, and I'll have to see how it compares to a Citrine Coach Gun. Overall, the weapon is quite powerful, performing on par with other high tier Jakobs shotguns in Borderlands 2.
It definitely does not suck and I plan to keep this weapon as the optional replacement for the Tidal Wave, which is just a bummer of a weapon. Tidal Wave review with buff: youtu.be/Fotb6RX8YS0

Being a Jakobs shotgun, it is at least viable in many mobbing scenarios. However, it is very weak compared to most other unique or high rarity shotguns.
Even with the buff the weapon got from the community patch, it is still a relatively weak weapon that is not at all fun to use because of its inconsistencies. The patch added base damage and magazine size to the weapon, but the spread still holds it back.
The community patch has the option to replace the weapon with the Flayer from Borderlands The Pre Sequel, so I plan to take a look at that option as well.

It is, perhaps, the very worst grenade in Borderlands 2 without the patch. It is both a lacking in power to kill enemies, and its self damage is sometimes unavoidable. It is easily the worst of the cursed items.
The community patch adds a significant amount of damage and blast radius. It would still kill the user almost all the time if not for the Manly Man shield tho. I like that quite a bit.
With the patch, the grenade becomes viable, but is still cumbersome to use. it definitely doesn't suck, it is quite powerful- but only if you wear the right shield.

Being a Dahl weapon, it has burst fire when zoomed. The burst pattern starts wide and converges in the middle, normally. This burst effect can be altered with Two Fang, and possibly other skills as well.
The Community Patch increases the damage by 10% and also decreases the ammo consumption. This weapon has always been decent, but was not great.
With the community patch, the weapon moves into the 'Very Good' tier for me. It has great potential with Bore, and it's a cool looking weapon that is fun to use.

This weapon has a relatively slow moving projectile, and a special effect of creating an extra grenade that drops upon impact.
Without the community patch, the KerBlaster did not get grenade damage on the main projectile, only the second projectile. The community patch makes the initial projectile deal grenade damage, which makes this weapon much better on characters that get grenade damage boosts like Axton.
This is a wonderful improvement to a weapon that I was already fond of, and it definitely makes the weapon more potent, given a proper build. I am playing with Axton, using a build that has heavy grenade damage boosts.

Without the community patch, it is a terrible weapon and one that was absolutely disappointing to find and use. Obviously it looks cool- and I like the idea, but it was just performed so poorly.
The community patch adds a significant amount more damage, which at least allows it to do the most damage on a traditional critical hit shot.
It no longer sucks, which is awesome. It is still not great with Critical Ascension, but would probably be a decent sniper to keep around if you're playing without Critical Ascension and just want a weapon to massive damage in deception. It is still fairly weak in comparison to a lot of other Jakobs snipers.

The Bearcat drops most commonly from OMGWTH in Digistruct Peak, but obviously it takes a long time to get to the boss. It also drops from Tubby enemies and is available as a world drop.
Without the community patch, it is absolutely one of the worst unique guns in the game, especially considering how late in Borderlands 2's life cycle that it was added. Curiously, it did not get grenade damage, which made no sense at all- since it is a grenadier rifle.
The community patch adds a significant amount of base damage, increases the fire rate, decreases the amount of ammo used per shot, and gives the weapon grenade damage. This makes the weapon so much better. It went from absolutely terrible to a viable and competitive AR for many mobbing situations. It definitely no longer sucks.
We are demoing the weapon with Axton, who has ample grenade damage bonuses.
I recommend the fire rate version.

This weapon has the special bonus of ignoring shields. It is especially valuable for two raid bosses- Pyrocaustic Pete and Voracidous the Invincibles. This effect is an allusion to one of Mordecai's skills in the original Borderlands.
The community patch adds a bit of fire rate, and massively increases the damage. There still aren't many enemies where the special effect makes this weapon worth using over other Jakobs weapons, but it definitely no longer sucks. It is a viable weapon at OP 8 with the community patch, even if it is lacking compared to other high tier Jakobs snipers.

The Rolling Thunder is always going to be a 'Rubberized' grenade. Upon bouncing, this grenade creates an explosion. When the grenade gets close enough to an enemy, it will split into ~10 child grenades.
Without the community patch, this weapon deals too much damage to the player to use effectively. It is fairly potent, but too dangerous to be viable.
The patch makes the grenade a little stronger, but also removes the self damage on the rubberized bounces. Beyond that- it also makes the Manly Man shield immune to even the child grenades, which makes it possible and viable to use the Rolling Thunder.
The Rolling Thunder still sucks when compared to an MIRV with a better delivery system, tho.
