NBC interrupts Heidi for a football score (simulated) nedwart 2024-12-10 | This is a reproduction of what it might have looked like on November 17, 1968, when NBC controversially ran a football score update during the broadcast of the children's film "Heidi". Earlier in the evening, NBC had cut away from a football game that was running past its allotted timeslot in order for the movie to begin on schedule. Viewers in NYC & on the East Coast missed a dramatic Oakland Raiders comeback against the Jets, footage which was shown the following night on The Huntley-Brinkley Report (a precursor to the NBC Nightly News).Let me say it again: this is not "found footage", but in fact a reproduction. I can't stress this enough. I created this as a sort of exercise in emulating analog video, and I think it came out very convincingly. Various types of software was used, but NTSC-rs did most of the legwork in creating a fairly accurate open-reel videotape look. I used videos from Rick Thomas's wonderful Obsolete Video channel in getting the look of the NTSC effect to be realistic, and for that I have him to thank for making those precious (and genuine) off-air recordings readily available for study. The song itself was dedicated to Bill Cavanagh and contained two Antarctica vocal jams with some lyrics changed to "Portland, Maine" and to being about Stu swimming in the [river] nearby (some of The Dripping Tap lyrics were changed to this as well) and Sea of Trees, Head On/Pill, Witchcraft, Flamethrower, and Alter Me teases. I heard it constantly everywhere - at home on TV, in the car on the radio, on streaming, social media, and here on YouTube: this jingle (actually, two versions of the same jingle) for a local chain of tire stores. I wanted to know why it exists, how long it's been around (since at least the 1990s, by my estimate), and just who on Earth made these bangers?I have no answers to these questions. There isn't a trace of info about the origins of this music at all on the Internet. Someone ought to make a 3-hour-long video essay about this. I'll update this space if new details emerge about its origins.These audio clips have been sourced from different Town Fair Tire ads found on YouTube at the time of this writing. They've been run through various MVSEP models to isolate the stems, and enhanced slightly using various Audacity effects. MVSEP wasn't entirely successful in seperating the racecar effects in the alt. radio jingle, but it's certainly listenable. I'm satisfied with how they came out.Nobody beats Town Fair Tire's jingles, and I mean noooooobody. Enjoy!
