Here we have my entry from March's Dwelling of Duels contest finally! I had waited a bit to try and get a proper video performance for this one, but not everyone has an ideal video setup, so I figured I'd post it anyways and maybe get a music video later on. In any case, it's finally here!!
I've been excited to share this one for a while. It was the biggest collab I've arranged so far, and the first time I ever had someone play real drums on one of my tracks! (or drums in general, I've only ever done my own programmed drums before). Mixing real drums for the first time consumed a lot of my time an energy that month, and I definitely lost sleep over it, but it turned out really well I think! I did some minor touchups on the mix before posting it here, but otherwise it's mostly the same as the contest version.
Big BIG thanks to everyone who was a part of this one, it's really quite special! Roque aka @Roqdrummer killed it with his drum parts, and I even re-recorded my bass/rhythm tracks to match what he sent back afterwards. The quiet section in the middle originally didn't have many drums in the arrangement, but he added some light and tasteful stuff there which I loved! Shoutouts to Justin Wilbanks from @KOTRmetal who recorded Roque's drums and edited the tracks prior to sending them out!
I got both @streifig from the band @MarshallArt as well as my friend @NivanSharma to play some lead guitar and other supporting guitar parts on this; it's pretty stacked with guitars considering I also have some on here, but the thick arrangement works pretty well imo! Their different sounds/styles compliment each other and the rest of the performers really well :) streifig's epic reverby lead part, and Nivan's crazy triplet run (doubled by Roque on the drums!) are my favourite parts from them.
And last but not least, I got @jnWake to lay down key parts on this! I sent out Electric Piano and Lead Synth parts to him, but he also sent out an organ part as a bonus and said I didn't have to use it, but I loved it naturally so it stayed!
Arrangement-wise, I went for something that started with the latter section of the original song, before coming in full force with the opening section. Otherwise, it more or less follows the original, but with the last two sections having an additional repetition. It's also a half-step lower from the original! That just kinda happened naturally, as I was noodling on guitar and came up with part of the intro progression in a different key. It's actually slightly based on a progression in one of my band's songs that I always noted as having a Chrono Trigger-y progression, so it kinda came full circle that way haha.
There's also two sneaky references to other Chrono music... can you spot them? 😁

Hey y'all! Finally, here is the arrangement I submitted for Pixel Mixers all the way back at the end of January! I made some pretty significant mix/master changes since the SoundCloud version I submitted, and I think it's miles better than that version. I learned a lot mixing for a more recent arrangement I did for Dwelling of Duels (look forward to that video in the near future! it has real drums!)
For this one, I had the riffs rolling around in my brain and in a very rough project form since around this time last year, but never committed to finishing it until the January PM content rolled around. I knew it would end up becoming a little more of a simple-ish headbanging cover than I typically do, but I think it turned out even better than I imagined! Went for a bit of a proggy but kind of alternative metal sound.
Super special thanks to @Demonstray for providing some tasty organ parts, and to @Sumask21 who provided some sick shredding as always!

-------------------
Hey y'all, time for my first cover of 2025! I did this for January's Dwelling of Duels, which is Brevity month like every year (60 seconds or less!), but this year it was Sonic-themed specifically. I decided to do a cover of the drowning and game over themes that originated in the first game, but have appeared numerous times since then.
I went for the "drowning and also having a stroke" joke by having the time signature change every bar, at least for the first section. After that, the meters get shorter and shorter and slightly faster to mimic the original jingle getting faster. I also invited Sumask who I've worked with many times, and my bandmate Carson to do some screams to make it sound extra chaotic and brutal. I did a couple as well, but I don't even really know how to scream, so mine are *very* distorted and buried in the mix haha.
I also tagged on the game over theme since I figured it would work well coming directly from the drowning theme. I ended up making yet another game over cover that has slide guitar doing the main melody, maybe that's a theme I'll have to continue incorporating lol. Anyway hope you enjoy this short one! I have a normal-length cover coming very shortly too, once I get the video from my collaborators on that one!

Hey y'all, I got another long arrangement for you! This was for David Wise month over at Dwelling of Duels this November. No video performance this time; I felt like because of the length and the fairly long sections with not much going on, a visualizer was best for this one.
I'm really proud of this one, not just because of how good I feel I did, but because it also represents another shift in my usual sound. The arrangement is fairly similar to other longer tracks I've done, with starting pretty low-key, developing into a bigger-ish section, dropping back down, coming back in for the heaviest section, and then dropping off again at the end to send it off. But I did a lot to customize my guitar/bass tones and especially the drum sound this time around to better suit what I had in mind for the track, rather than just going with my usual presets and only tweaking them slightly. The drum part I also wrote pretty differently, going for a much less "metally", double-kicky kind of approach and going for more of a heavy post-rock kind of sound. With listening to a lot more music this year that's different from what I used to for a long time, I wanted to incorporate some of that into my music more, and while that showed up a bit in my recent covers, this one shows it a lot more.
I also did a lot of work on production during the arranging phase this time around rather than saving for right before mixing, and I think it really affected the vibe of the track and how I recorded more parts later. I did things like using water sounds in the intro, middle and end (referencing the water sounds in the original of course! :D ), utilizing the cutoff/resonance filters on my synth sound, among other parameters, and doing a weird unintelligible whispered thing in the middle. Don't ask me how I thought of that, it just came to me and decided it's what the part needed lol.
With all that to say, I hope you enjoy this one! I think it's best enjoyed on headphones because of the extremes in dynamics. Btw, I left some intentional Deftones and Big Wreck references in the music, let me know if/when you catch them! ;P

Hey y'all I can't believe it's been months since I posted anything. I have a special one for you today that I started working on in February. I went ahead and made two other covers since then, as I stopped feeling excited about this one for a bit, partially due to some personal stuff but also because originally it was a bit longer than the final version.
This is from a super obscure game I played a ton as a kid on my Xbox. Having replayed it recently, it's pretty fun but flawed, although I remember it getting really trash reviews back in the day. The music definitely kicks ass. The game used dynamic music, and changed which version of the song was playing depending on if you were walking normally, tiptoeing, or spinning. Since I made an arrangement of level music, I made sure to have a section dedicated to each version of the track, so there's a fairly mid-heavy section, followed by a chiller section, and then a balls to the wall heavy section at the end to reflect the in-game music changes.
No promises, but my hope is to have at least two more covers out the end of the year; it really just depends on how I'm feeling. Me and my band are still finishing up recording our two debut albums which is taking longer than I had hoped, but good news is we're not rushing it and things are coming along nicely! We just have a few small things here and there to record and we can finally move on to mixing... anyway that's not relevant to the video so enjoy and see you again soon hopefully!

Back with another cover for another Pixel Mixers contest! In this case, I had been working on this arrangement on and off since the end of March, but I put most of the work into it over the last month or so. For this theme, my cover has to fit an elemental theme of either water, air, fire, or earth (obviously water for mine lol). Go Team Water!
While I mostly didn't record video for this one, I did capture the solos live since they were pretty improvised, and I used some cool motion effects to fit the vibe of the visualizer.
Speaking of the solos, I was tempted to go for something more shreddy and deliberate, but I think my choice of doing simpler improvised solos worked out a lot better, because they still sound pretty epic, especially the electric solo with all the delay and reverb on it.
While I went for a pretty typical Triple B style cover with changing the meter and playing with dynamics and having a long solo section, I think this is one of the covers I'm most proud of. I do have a desire to move away from those style of arrangements so I become a little less predictable, and just to do something new, but I haven't gotten sick of it despite that, and considering I did a lot of listening to mix and master it. I always consider that I good sign! :D Hope you enjoy this one!

I'm back after a few months with a new cover! This one is both for this year's Soundole Chill Out competition, as well as this month's Pixel Mixers contest, whose theme is games from 2000-2009. I figured Paper Mario TTYD was a good game to check out for music, since the remake just came out so it's on peoples' minds.
This is easily my most unique arrangement to date, as it's the second one I've done with no drums, and it's of a piece probably no one ever thinks about lol. It doesn't even really have a main melody per se; it's just a very ambient soundscape. It took some work to figure out how I wanted to arrange it, since it sounds like the original is in free time, but I kind of interpreted it as being in 4/4 but every fourth bar is 3/4. Regardless of the meter changes, it's more meant to be vibed along with then bopping your head or counting to.
I know a lot of people might not listen to this all the way to the end (despite only being 3.5 minutes long which is shorter than most of my covers lol) but I thank you if you stick to the end! With the original only being 40 seconds or so before repeating (and even that contains a repeat with a very minor change), it was an interesting challenge to figure out how to build and build the song and then drop it off at the end, especially considering it's not the usual type of piece I end up arranging. I focused a lot on production with reverbs and other effects as well for this one, so I could nail the vibe I was going for.
I also didn't bother recording video for this for 2 reasons: 1, I only started it 5 days ago and had to speedrun making it basically, and 2: I don't think it would make for very interesting performance since it's very soundscape-y and ambient and with tons of layers, none of which are really a 'main' part.
Look forward to my next cover hopefully in June, since I have a partly finished one that fits the next Pixel Mixers theme! Until then, have a gay one y'all

I'm back with another cover so soon! Don't get used to it, this is only because this one was mostly done by the time the last one was released haha.
This is one of those short ones that I do for Brevity month over at Dwelling of Duels. I originally had this idea for the first DoD contest I ever submitted to back in 2021, but didn't do it since I wanted to do the Undertale one. I forgot about it until December, when I wanted to make this for Pixel Mixers' own contest with the same theme, but I didn't get it done in time, so I saved it for DoD.
I had lots of fun extending this jingle out to be a minute long, playing with the weird chromatic/whole tone scale melodies and adding some proggy goodness with the syncopated rhythms and 8 string guitar. In order to make some of the lead parts easier to play, I actually detuned my highest string down a half step.

The wait is finally over! After starting this arrangement back in April, and finally completing it around September or October, I can finally share it with y'all! It's the second longest single song cover I've done thus far, and I think I did a good job and making it sound cohesive while also keeping it interesting throughout. The first two minutes is more or less a guitar-centric version of the original with not many changes, but right after that I start experimenting with it a bit more, changing the song into a 5/4 version with an emphasis on the bass/drum groove. I got heavier of course later in the song and there's a little synth and guitar solo, and I play with the time signature quite a bit! Overall I had lots of fun playing with this song, and at the time that I finished mixing, I think it's easily the best mixing job I've done (not counting the ones I made after that are already released), thanks in no small part to the feedback I got while working on it and sending it to the Pixel Mixers people. Hope you enjoy, and please make sure to check out the whole album, there's many talented artists all over it and it's a cool varied listening journey!

And here I've got the second of remixes of my old covers! This is probably the one I was most anxious to redo, since I definitely botched the original mix/master by making it way too bassy and compressed. I didn't practice using reference tracks at the time, so I couldn't tell how bad it sounded until it was too late haha. I'm glad I got to redo this one though, because I think I made a great arrangement out of this fairly underappreciated song from a game that is often associated with the best music in video game history.
I mostly kept the arrangement the same, but I added organ to complement the rhythm guitars as I started doing later on, and I changed some of the extra guitar parts to a distorted electric piano sound. I also re-recorded all the parts of course, and massively updated the drum sound.
This actually only took me a week and a half or so to record; I spent a lot of time mixing and taking breaks to see how I could take my mixing capabilities to the next level again. I followed a template from my previous one, but tried some new things, like putting a gate plugin on my snare bottom and tom tracks to eliminate some kick drum bleed and excessive reverb on those tracks, which cleaned up the drums a bit, and I also pushed the drum room sound a bit to try and get a really popping snare sound, which I think I've come another big step closer to achieving!
This month Pixel Mixers is doing a brevity theme contest, so I might be able to get out a 60-second-or-less cover (a new one!) out again, and maybe I'll actually film video for it lol. If not, I'll have something new in January hopefully! Until then, thanks for listening as always :D

Hey all, I finally have something to upload. It's short and not new exactly, but I'm pretty happy with the way this one turned out. This is my first attempt at re-doing some of my oldest arrangements and improving on their sound. For this one, I re-recorded all my parts, added organ and a tiny bit of piano, and re did all my tones and drum sounds from scratch. I also mostly did the mix from a barebones state, aside from my bass tone utilizing FX sends and whatnot.
I think this sounds so much better guitar-tone wise, drum sound wise than the original version, and it's a lot punchier too. The three main arrangements changes were that I added organ to complement the rhythm guitars, added piano to the tiny bass solo, and changed the super heavy part towards the end to be held notes instead of more staccato notes.
I'll make a post about this in more detail soon, but I joined a band at the beginning of September, and that has become my primary focus for the time being, while I get to know the band's existing material, do some recording with them, as well as help mix/master the album and learn the songs to eventually play live. This means there just won't be too many uploads for at least the rest of the year and early next year; by that point who even knows if I'll be doing any focusing on vgm arrangements, but for the time being most of my uploads will likely be remixes of my old arrangements. The hope is to do enough of them to make an album of them (most of the ones I want to do were never on streaming services, but a few of them were).
Let me know what you think of this one, and how it compares to the original! I think it really shows how far I've come, particularly production and mix-wise.

After 4 months, I've finally completed my arrangement of Osvald's theme! I was originally using my white Ibanez RG 350 to record the rhythm parts, but it still has intonation problems, and has old strings, so I decided to re-learn the parts on my 8-string (I used an asinine tuning to do it involving tuning most of the guitar UP a half-step from standard, except the highest two strings, so that I can easily play a really spicy Cmin9 chord lol)
I had mentioned a track from this game that I was doing for the Pixel Mixers arrangement album a couple times, so just to make it clear, this isn't the same one. Once that one is officially released, I will post the video for it on my channel.
For this arrangement, I took some liberties with the song by adding some spicy riffs/ostinatos to the A section, since it's very minimal in the original, and doesn't give me a ton to work with. So I kept the chord progression and melody the same, but just added some of my own tidbits, if you will. The B or "chorus" section is more or less like the original without any added tidbits, aside from the last part towards the end having a very polyrhythmic feel that shifts the melody over a bit at times.

Here we have the first proper vocal cover I've done since November (last one had vocals, but there were no words and they weren't in the original song :P ). This is also the first Sonic arrangement I've done in quite some time! I pulled this one out for Dwelling of Duels (as most of my covers have been this year so far, especially lately). I listened to this song a TON when I was younger (about 10 or 11, I got my first MP3 player around that time and the game was relatively new so I was obsessed with it lol) and had been on my list for a while, so it feels great to knock this one off the list!
Since it's a vocal song with a complete structure and no looping, I kept it pretty much the same as the original, but I played with the feel a little bit in some parts, and changed the ending slightly. I also dropped the key all the way from B minor to F# minor. I often downtune vocal songs to make them more comfortable to sing, but in this case it was more of a stylistic choice, as I wanted to get a bit more of a VOLA vibe with the super low guitars, and the bass playing in the same octave. I ended up with a bit of a gritty, muddy sound which I kind of like, although the original DoD mix was a bit too muddy and bass-heavy, which I hopefully improved since that version.
I felt a little anxious about the singing in this one at first, since I used more of a rough vocal style, and even a bit whisper-y at parts, which is a side of my voice I haven't shown as much. I also sang a pretty high C# note towards the end as a bit of a scream, and was unsure whether that would come across as forced or weak or whatever, but I think it turned out pretty well. I purposefully put a lot of distortion and some saturation on the vocals as well, since that's how the original sounded and I wanted to emulate that.
This was also the first time I used some alternate percussion in parts, namely the more EDM-style kick drum and the reverse hi-hat. In order to emulate many of the sound effects from the original song, I actually played them all on guitar and experimented with automating some post-effects like the Metalizer and MorphFilter plugins that come with cubase. I think those turned out pretty well considering they don't sound quite like the original, and certainly don't sound like a guitar at all for the most part lol. I also tried my hand at doing some choppy vocal effects for the first time, since I felt like the song would be missing them from the original.
Although I haven't uploaded anything in a month, I actually have been working on other things; I contributed some acoustic guitar to a collab project that I will share when it's out; I've also been working on a track for a Pixel Mixers album, and I have another project which was intended for last month's Pixel Mixers contest and the Chill Out contest, but I abandoned it to save myself some sanity, and also so I could focus on this project since I really wanted to get it done. Maybe I'll finish that one this month since it will fit the current Pixel Mixers theme; but my plans always change, so we'll see. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy listening to this one, and thanks for taking the time for said listening!

Here we have the first Final Fantasy cover I've done in quite a long while! I chose this song because for this month's 8-Bit Battleground, we all did a battle theme from a FF game, and this one had been on my list for a while. It's probably my favourite battle theme from FF6 which is the only FF game I've really played extensively.
Right from the get go, I knew I wanted to record this using my 8 string (I have used it for every cover since getting it lol), and make some super dark and heavy riffs out of the original song. It didn't up being very long as far as my arrangements are concerned, but I think it's the perfect length for what I was going for. That crazy little fast run of notes right at the beginning, I didn't play quite like the original, because it's incredibly difficult, so I kind of made an offshoot of that part and played it by tapping. It uses the same basic set of notes, but they're just not played in the exact same order. I did the same thing for much later in the song on the lead synth.
Hope you enjoy this one! I'll be working on another Dwelling of Duels arrangement next, so you can expect another cover to go up here towards the beginning of May.

Back with another Mario cover! This was one I did for the most recent Dwelling of Duels (just like my previous cover from the month before), where the theme this time was Spinoff Games. I thought Mario RPG would be a perfect game to choose a tune from since it's one of my favourite games from my childhood, and this piece in particular I always thought was really cool sounding, and made me think that it has so much potential for an arrangement. I also haven't done any music from this game since I did the Barrel Volcano one over two years ago -- hopefully I can do more! There are just so many games I want to cover music from though lol
I ended up yet again, turning a pretty short (in this case, 35-ish seconds) song into a relatively long musical journey. I made sure to have the ostinato going in some form throughout the entire length of it, and it has a bit of a hypnotic kind of repetition to it. I of course added a long, slowly developing solo section, and I really channeled my inner Alex Lifeson/John Petrucci for the volume swells. I'm really proud of the bass/drum groove during the solo section in particular. It just has this really spicy syncopated, but tasteful kind of feel, which is something I always appreciate about bass/drum parts in music I listen to, so I'm happy I was able to channel that into this arrangement. I also knew I wanted to have part of the song utilize my new 8-string guitar for some really low, heavy sections.
All in all, I'm very pleased with how this one turned out, especially considering I had to rush the DoD version a bit to meet the deadline. I did end up re-recording a couple lead guitar lines for this release since they weren't quite as perfect as I wanted them to be, and I updated the mix a bit based on feedback I got.

Now here is an arrangement I've been wanting to do pretty much since I started doing VGM covers! I never ended up doing it because I didn't think I could quite do it justice. The "solo" section with the easter eggs and the super heavy part right after were the first ideas I had for it, but I wasn't sure that I was good enough at playing yet for it, and mixing to get the super heavy sound I wanted. I think I was able to pull it off though! I also dropped the key by a half-step from G minor to F# minor, to make use of my new 8-string guitar. My capo unfortunately doesn't fit the neck very well, otherwise I would have just kept it in the same key. But I think it still ended up sounding great, and makes my version unique.
Speaking of easter eggs, that solo section references four other Mario games, and there's a theme associated with them! Can you figure out what the references are, and what the theme connecting them all is?
I submitted this arrangement to Dwelling of Duels last month, since it was Mario month there. I ended up getting 12th out of 39th place, which was pretty surprising because of how rushed the mix was for that version. I did a lot of extra things to the mix for this final version, like compressing the kick, snare, and toms together, but not compressing the full drum group so the cymbals don't get squashed.
On the production side, I also found a new bass tone I really like! I added some distortion to it, and with my new-found skill of using parallel effects, got it to sound a lot richer and spicier than my old tone, and retain the heavy low sound I had already. I also used an octave plugin for some parts to get it to sound better in the mix with my 8-string guitar. For those sections, I actually played a bit closer to the neck (as I also did for the video), as it helps the octave plugin actually know what note I'm playing when I'm playing the lower notes on the bass (otherwise it picks up all sorts of overtones and gets confused... neat tip I found on a random youtube video lol)

Happy Octopath II day!! I decided to release this one on the same day as the second game comes out, even though I finished it on the 21st. I am super excited to share this one, as I've been planning it for some time, and I think I did the best job with mixing I've ever done so far. I also got a new guitar as you can tell in the video, the Ibanez RGMS8. I wanted to replace the weird 8-string I've had for a while, since it's uncomfortable to play, and doesn't sound quite how I want it to, particular on the lowest string. This new one kicks it out of the park for sure! I even recorded a solo for someone else's project with this guitar, and it sounded great in that context as well!
As for this video, I knew from the get go that I wanted to give it a bit of a thrashier/deathier kind of metal sound, with symphonic/gothic elements. The beginning kind of reminds me of A Nightmare to Remember by Dream Theater since it also has the 16th triplet chuggy riff on with the epic choir/string stuff going on. This might be biased on me wanting to hear the new guitar, but I placed a big emphasis on the rhythm guitar this time around, and the lead guitars are pushed back a little bit compared to my previous covers. I managed to make them still perfectly audible though with some EQing and whatnot. I will say, the lead parts were also the easiest to play in this cover, with the bass and rhythm parts being the hardest, since there's lots of intricate rhythms going on throughout the whole thing.
I am super excited to play Octopath II by the way! How about you? I already pre-ordered it, and I even ran through the first game again, actually managing to beat Galdera this time (well hopefully... at the time of writing this, I haven't, but I'll just pretend that I did by the time you see this lol)

Here we have my main entry into last month's Dwelling of Duels contest, where each entry had to be less than a minute long. For this one, I decided to do the Game Over theme from DKC2, as I thought it would sound cool as bluesy/rocky song with slide guitar playing the main melody. I more or less stuck to the original, only adding a little intro to it. I had fun experimenting a bit with my drum sound to sound less like a metal kit, since I mainly use Drumkit from Hell.
After this, I will be going back to longer arrangements, I promise! :P I'm hoping to have an Octopath Traveler cover out in time for Octopath II's release on the 24th, so look forward to that! :)

Got a short one for you today! As has been tradition for January the last few years, I submitted an entry to Dwelling of Duels' Brevity Month, where your cover has to be less than a minute long. I decided to do two this time, and this one was my alt entry, so it didn't get voted on, but ironically it seemed to get a better initial reaction than my main entry! As for my main entry, the video for that will be coming out in the next little bit as well. After that, I'll get back to longer arrangements, I promise!
Originally I was just gonna do this one like the original, but I couldn't pass up turning it into a longer piece, like I did with Dogbass from Undertale two years ago. I made the initial version in less than a day, but I went back and re-recorded some parts that were a bit sloppy, and improved the mix as well.
This song is also a bit of an inside joke between me and some friends who cover Chrono Trigger music, so I hope they get a laugh out of someone in our group doing this one :P

Here I am with another Chrono Trigger cover! The idea for this one came up suddenly right after I posted my last one. I realized it sounded really cool to play the original brass part as the rhythm part, with the A pedal tone underneath and the high B and E strings ringing out throughout all the chords. From that point on it was really easy to arrange this one. It also ended up becoming a pretty short cover for me, at just under 3 minutes long!
I recorded a video performance for this video like I usually do, since I cleared out my space more and unpacked my tripod and lights finally. So far I like the angles I'm using, pretty much just trying to emulate what I had going on before at my previous apartment. I don't have 4 walls this time in my music space though, so I have less corners to shoot in.
I also submitted this video to this month's Pixel Mixers contest, since the current theme is First Games, and since Chrono Trigger was close one of the first games I ever played, it fits the theme! I probably could have done something from Super Mario Allstars, Mario World, Sonic 2, or DKC, but since I got the idea for this one and I was really excited about it, it felt right to do this one.
Hope you enjoy my proggy take on Ayla's Theme! I will hopefully end up doing more Chrono Trigger covers this year, as I feel I've really been avoiding doing them up until now (the last one I did before Millennial Fair earlier this month was A Strange Happening in summer of 2021).

Here it is, my first video of 2023! It probably could have been the last of 2022 considering I only worked on it in 2023 for a couple hours, but I feel like this song is the perfect fit for a fresh start.
I decided to do a cover of this song when I found out the Pixel Mixers' contest theme for December is time travel games, and since Chrono Trigger is one of my favourite games/soundtracks ever, it was the perfect opportunity to finally do another song from it!
For the first time in a long while, this cover doesn't have any solos in it! Although I like adding them to my covers, I felt this one turned out better without one. As far as arranging, I knew right off the bat I wanted to try doing some metric modulation to change the meter from 6/8 to 4/4 in a triplet feel, and I'm glad I did because I think it works surprisingly well for this song! I also threw in one of my other favourite things to add to a cover which is an either polyrhythmic, or otherwise pattern-based riff. In the second half, I had the bass/rhythm guitars and drums keep changing which part of the bar the group of three notes lands on throughout the whole section, and then for the next, having two groups of three notes and doing the same thing. I feel like that still doesn't explain exactly what's going on, but it's hopefully good enough to know what I'm talking about if you've listened to it already haha. Just in case you're also a music theory nerd and wanted some tidbits
I didn't record any video performance for this one, so unfortunately all I have for you is a crappy visualizer for the audio I found online and a background with text this time :P I was dealing with moving and holidays this whole past month, so I never had time to set up my lights and camera and all that. Since I wanted to enter this in the contest and make the deadline, I decided just not recording video was a necessary sacrifice.

Back with another cover! This is one of my rare non-VGM covers, again for my dad's birthday like the Billy Talent one I did last year. Happy birthday Dad!
I took a similar approach with this to the last one, where I followed the original song structure, but I played in a step lower than the original to make it more comfortable for my voice. I also added quite a few harmonies, since the original didn't have any whatsoever.
For the solos, I did the first one on my keyboard, and played it mostly like the original (well, one of the originals... it has that weird thing where Tony Iommi double tracked the solos but each one is different so you have a different solo on each side which is super bizzare. I followed the one on the right side). With the second solo, I played it on guitar, but changed it more and made it more of my own, while still referencing the original. I took a similar approach with the bass solo in the intro, playing it mostly like the original, but added a couple of my own tidbits towards the end.
I also decided to put the lyrics on screen for funsies, because why not?
All in all, I wanted to make sure my version pays respects to the original while still making it my own as I typically do with all my covers. Hope you like my version of N.I.B., and I'll hopefully be back with another VGM cover next month or the one after! I'm hoping I can start doing more than one a month again after I deal with moving and the holidays.

Phew... this one took me a while! I had had the idea for it for many many months, and started working on it proper right after my last video. It's been kind of on and off due to some other life things going on, but I still put loads of work into this, partially due to it's length. I had some concerns about making a single song cover this long, but in the end, I decided it was worth it since I feel like nothing can be cut to improve on it, plus I've always wanted to do a longer arrangement like this, and take the song to so many different places. Although the song has some pretty strange melody timings and particular harmony sections, it sits on a Bb chord the whole way through, so I took the opportunity to find some alternate chords in a couple sections that fit well with those melodies/harmonies. I also changed the key from the original Bb to E, except the last section where I returned it to the original key.
I noted this song's weird meter (11/8) since I first played Mario Odyssey, and thought it would be fun to turn it into a song that has a classic prog feel to it. In particular, I really wanted to channel Dream Theater in this cover. There's a few spots where I can hear echoes of certain songs, like the beginning when the all-cymbals drum part comes in, reminds me of the beginning of The Count of Tuscany; the shared rhythm/bass/organ riff at 0:45 reminds me of Barstool Warrior, and the little open string lick at 4:39 with the low B underneath reminds me of Outcry.
I have a feeling some viewers will shy away from watching this one because of the length, but there's a special place in my heart for anyone who listens to the end! Regardless, I'm really happy with the way this turned out and wouldn't change anything :) (in particular I like the bass sound I achieved with this, being on the louder/present side but not drowning anything else out)

It's about time that I finally finished this one! I started this cover way back in last November, intending to be part of that month's 8-Bit Battleground when we still all covered the same song, however I was unable to finish it in time due to my white Ibanez guitar having major issues with intonation. Although I still has some minor issues with it, it got a lot better and I finally decided to finish it. I also submitted it to last month's Dwelling of Duels.
For this cover, I came up with the main rhythm riff as kind of an offshoot of the main melody, and it's kind of based on a riff from the song Found My Place by Big Wreck, but faster and mutated to fit the melody of this song. In fact, the entire song is pretty Big Wreck inspired with the downtuned bluesy riffs, and use of an open tuning (Open C in this case) and the slide playing. Speaking of slide, this is the first time I recall doing a proper slide solo, I think it turned out pretty well and definitely want to continue doing that in the future where possible! Overall I think this one came out great and I'm glad it's finally done!

Got another great collaboration for you this time! This is the ending theme to Radical Dreamers. It was originally titled "Le Trésor Interdit", but was re-named to A Vow of Wind and Dreams on the official arrangement album that came out alongside the Chrono Cross/Radical Dreamers remaster, probably to avoid confusion with the Chrono Cross ending theme which in some translations has the same name. Now with that info dump out of the way...
I did this track for Dwelling of Duels last month (finally submitted two months in a row!), and I asked the very talented Animalisa Keys to play piano on this track, and also Shea's Violin to play violin. This track would not have been the same without them so extra special thanks to them for helping me with this one!
Since this is a credits theme and doesn't loop, I stuck exactly to the original song structure for this one. I feel like any major changes to it would potentially ruin the beauty of this piece, so I decided to honour this one by only really changing the instrumentation and adding some sneaky easter eggs. Comment down below if you can find some or all of the 4 Trigger/Cross music references in the piano parts!

This one took quite a while to come out, and I'm super glad I can finally share this one with everyone! This was a cover I did for Dwelling of Duels back in June, but the version I posted there is a bit different from this one, as it only features myself, but this one features the amazing Fuzz Pixels, and is arguably the better version as a result! :)
For this song, I thought it would be a fun idea to up the tempo quite a bit and give it more of a pop punk kind of vibe (although with more of the riffy metal style that I tend to do). Since Fuzz Pixels does a lot of Punk/Punk-adjacent covers, I thought it was the perfect song to feature him on, and he did a great job playing the melodies in his own unique way, not to mention the really tasty solo he came up with! Special thanks to him for joining me on this one :)
Make sure to check out his channel as well for some awesome video game covers done in a punk/post-hardcore/emo style!:

You'll probably notice that in some shots my hair is a tad longer, and that's because I filmed some of the video early in July, but Fuzz Pixels ending up being pretty busy when I asked him to participate (it was a bit last minute on my part lol) so I saved the rest for later so I could complete the Mother Brain video in time for 8-Bit Battleground. It's also been ridiculously hot here, so I'm a bit unavoidably sweaty, and my hair is super untamed in said shots lol

‐---‐--------------
It's finally here!! I said I would do this cover waaay back in February when I had a little vote to have people decide which song I should cover. I finally decided to cover it not only for this month's 8-Bit Battleground, but also to enter in this month's Pixel Mixers contest. The theme this month is Sci-Fi vs. Fantasy, and this cover represents Team Sci-Fi!
For this song, I really wanted to highlight the dissonant and evil sounds that this song has. I also just had a few specific ideas for the arrangement sitting in my head since before I held the vote for it. I knew I wanted to use my 8-String to make it sound ultra crushing and heavy since it's in the key of F#, and for the first time I tuned by bass down to F# as well. I wasn't sure if that would even work so well since it becomes near impossible to even tell what note the bass is playing when it's that low, but in conjunction with the other instruments it becomes apparent, and since it really makes the foundation of the ultra heavy section of the song what it is, I'm glad I went that route.
Since the song was already in 7/4, I didn't have to do a whole lot to make it proggy, but I went ahead and took it to the next level in some sections anyway, like the part where the main rhythm kind of "shifts over" an eighth note (making it a bar of 15/8 instead of 7/4 or 14/8 which is the equivalent) but the hi-hat and snare continue as if they were in 7/4... just some math metal bullsh*t lol), as well as the section later with just the rhythm section continually going up in note values. It was pretty difficult to get the timing on the quintuplets and septuplets accurately. I kind of adopted that idea from a Mike Mangini drum solo where he kind of does the same thing with snare hits, but he goes all the way up to the 9th tuplets I think? He's just insane lol

I ended up deciding to change the key from F minor to E minor, just to make the riffs easier to play on my 8-string guitar (I would have used a capo, which I've done before, but decided to change it up). I also wrote a trade-off solo section that's pretty Dream Theater inspired, especially with how it takes the main riff and changes the key of it for each solo section. I also threw in a pretty obvious nod to Portals by Haken in the solos, see if you can find it!

This is my cover for Soundole's yearly Chill Out VGM contest! As a result, it's of course more of a chill cover than most of the ones I do. I'm really happy with the way this one turned out, as I think it's pretty different from some of my covers in a lot of ways, but still sounds like me in others.
This is a song I've had on my list to do for a while, and I even once suggested it as a song for 8-Bit Battleground, but it didn't win of course. Illusion of Gaia (also called Illusion of Time in Europe) was a game I played a bit as a kid, but never made it very far. I replayed it a couple years ago, and still never beat it, but it's a pretty cool action RPG not unlike the old school Zelda games. This song was one of the ones that always stood out to me just because it's a really peaceful town theme. It has a fairly typical "Canon in D" kind of chord progression, but the melody is super memorable and the final section with the maj7th chords is the section that really takes it over the top for me. I knew I wanted to include a couple of those token Triple B slide guitar sections, and I'm glad I did because it works great with this song.

Hey y'all, back with another video just a week after the last one! This one was a cover I did for Dwelling of Duels last month. I have done some minor changes to the mix and arrangement since I posted that version though.
This one I decided on pretty much on a whim, and ended up completing the initial version within just two days. It was surprisingly quick to arrange, and the really fun and quirky, mysterious sound made me really excited for people to hear it. I really loved the idea of doing an entire song in a whole tone scale, which is what gives this song that off-beat wacky vibe.

HEY! It's been close to two months since my last upload, but I'm finally back after taking a break from making videos. This cover was for April's 8-Bit Battleground event, but I only had the audio done at the time. I've since finished the video, and even updated the audio a bit.
For this cover, I initially felt a little uninspired, and for a good chunk of making this one, it sounded to me like I just did what I usually do without doing anything new. That is partially true, as I do some things you would find it pretty much any cover I make, like having the slower soft/acoustic intro and outro, and having some kind of polyrhythmic section. In the end though, I still ended up being really happy with how this one turned out, especially the guitar solo, and the piano part I wrote for underneath said solo. I also updated my lead guitar sound, and I think it got way better!
Also, it's pretty obvious, but I only played the melody piano part at the very end, as I'm not good enough a piano player to play both the parts at once as it turns out 😅

Finally got the video for my 8-Bit Battleground entry done! The song premiered on the 8BBG stream three days ago, but I wasn't able to finish the video part on time until today.
For this song, I decided to actually build a new song from the ground up based on the in-game version that the bards sing. A lot of covers of this song base themselves on the ever-popular Malukah version, which is fair since the original is literally just a melody, but I decided to make mine stand out by being it's own version. Special thanks to Sumask as well! He added some great lead guitar parts to this cover, as well as some surprise harsh vocals towards the end to embellish my vocal parts. It's finally here!! I started this cover over two months ago, but a ton of hiccups happened with trying to record my friend Katelyn's vocals, and so it kept getting delayed, but I'm so happy that it's finally done. Extra special thanks to Katelyn for providing vocals for this arrangement!
This song was the first song that I fell in love with from the entire game, and I wanted to cover it since I first played it last year, but wasn't really sure how. Eventually I thought that maybe it would sound cool with some operatic vocals singing harmonies and the main melody, so I asked my friend Kate (who is a classically trained vocalist) if she would want to help out, and I'm glad I did, because it turned out even better than I imagined! Other than the vocals, I didn't mess with the song's arrangement as much as I normally do; I mostly just extended a couple sections here and there and went through the song twice. Since it's such a perfect song, I didn't want to do too much to it, other than playing it on guitar/bass and making the last section really heavy and powerful sounding, in the vein of a prog metal ballad kind of sound.
For the future, I may be only to do two covers a month at most, depending on how I feel, as I am getting a job and it may eat away at my time a bit. But, I don't run on a schedule anyway so it just depends whether I have the time and energy to work on these covers. I can definitely say there's at least one more coming this month, and possibly another!
BTW, I did notice the weird video cut off at the end screen, unfortunately I didn't notice until after uploading, but it's such a minor thing overall that I didn't bother fixing it and re-uploading it because I already had to re-export the video once.

This is a song I've been thinking about doing for quite some time, and the perfect opportunity came up when PixelMixers announced that the theme for this month's VGM contest is games that are the second installment in a franchise/series. In this case, Soul Reaver is the sequel to Blood Omen (they both belong to the Legacy of Kain series).
These games are primarily known for their excellent story, voice acting, and sometimes aggravating block puzzles. The music is often very atmospheric and not usually the centre of attention, and the series is a bit overlooked in general, so covers of its music aren't very common. I thought this would be a good song to cover since it's pretty dramatic sounding, and a bit more involved than most of the music.
I decided to include some lead keyboard parts again, but I used a different lead synth sound than the last few times -- let me know if you like it better than the previous one or not!

Surprise, another video already! This one's quite a bit on the shorter side though. This was my submission to Brevity month at Dwelling of Duels, a video game music competition. The month's theme was that the music can be from any game, but the arrangement has to be 60 seconds or less. Since I did a Ristar cover recently, the game was on my mind, so I decided to do this song, which is the song that plays after you defeat a boss and travel to the next planet.
It only took me a day for the most part to do the audio, and then another 2 days to do the video, and wasn't very hard to perform, except for the lead guitar part at the beginning and harmony guitar throughout the rest (as can been seen in the bottom right). Since I've been playing keyboard more and more lately, I decided it would be cool to have the keyboard be the lead instrument for most of the song, using the lead synth sound I've used on a couple covers already. I'm looking forward to using more lead sounds, but I'm pretty happy with that one so far.

For me, I decided to do something a little different and try slowing the song down significantly just to see how it would sound. I knew it would inevitably make the song a lot easier to play for the most part, but I thought it was worth it because I feel like I came up with something pretty unique, and not like anything I've down before. It also enabled me to play even more keyboard lead parts, since I'm nowhere near as good at that compared to guitar haha. I more or less kept the original structure of the song intact, but with an extra repeat of the final section that I altered into something a bit evil sounding lol. Hope you enjoy my wacky nonsense on this one.

I'm back after a month of no videos! I hope everyone had good holidays. For my first cover of the year, I decided to go back to Ristar again, so I could submit a cover to the monthly Pixel Mixers contest. In this case, it had to fit the theme of a game that only has one entry in its series (no sequels/prequels/spinoffs etc.). I also recruited the talented Linus Kuehl to play Alto Saxophone on it! Special thanks to him for taking this cover to a level I couldn't have achieved otherwise.
For this cover, I went with a bit of a lighter Fusion / bluesy prog rock kind of vibe. It ended up a little on the longer side to fit three different solos in, but I think this arrangement really called for the length. Speaking of solos, Linus's solo was completely improvised, which is quite impressive. I rarely do any kind of improvisation, and I always write my solos, so having that kind of off-the-cuff solo in one my covers made it extra special.
You may also notice I got a new keyboard to replace my little 25-key one. I barely used it beyond just playing two notes back and forth in one section, but you'll be seeing a lot more of it very soon! I actually have a cover 95% recorded already that makes way more use of it, hopefully you'll all be able to see it when it's ready.

Here is my video for the 8th month of 8-Bit Battleground! We were all tasked with covering Ice Cap Zone from Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Somehow I keep getting roped into playing Sonic music lately lol. My video was a few days late, although the audio was ready for the stream a few days ago at least.

For this cover, I actually ended up transposing the song up a half-step. I partially did this to make it a bit more friendly to play on my 8 string guitar, and just to see how much it changed the sound. I also did my signature change of the meter to 7/8 from the original 4/4 for a section of the song. I was unsure of this arrangement at first, but decided to stick with it and I ended up being pretty happy with the results.
I'm particularly happy with how the video editing turned out; I often feel like I can't show as much of the performance as I want since there's often so much going on (and being the creator I know how involved each part is), but I came up with some creative solutions for that in this video. Hopefully it's not too jarring to have these faster sliding transitions, please let me know if you like what I did with the video this time around!

Wait, this isn't a video game song?!
Although I don't want to do go back to the single-take acoustic style covers I used to it, I may still do a non-vgm song every now and then. This one was requested by my Dad for his birthday. A little bit late, but better late than never lol
I took a similar-ish approach to this cover as I did for my Escape from the City cover, where I didn't use much in the way of lead guitars since there's vocals, but there's still a guitar solo in there. I'm continuing my heavier use of VST sounds, particularly the rock organ sound I've been very fond of lately. I feel like it adds so much to heavy riffs and makes things more interesting overall. I also included a string section in spots as well as some electric piano.

Here it is! The first cover of mine that was chosen by way of an online poll. (Aside from 8-Bit Battleground stuff of course) This song won against Hello, Happy Kingdom from Super Mario RPG, and Boilerworks from Luigi's Mansion 3. Will I revisit those songs at a later date? Probably at some point, but this is the one that got the most votes so it got done now. If you want to take part in future polls, make sure to check out my social media links below. :) I plan on doing this once a month, but there won't be a poll for December, as I have plans for videos already, and I have some holiday plans taking up some time as well.
For this cover, I knew I had to go full on energetic metal mode, but I also went pretty proggy with it by having some sections be in 15/8 (replacing two of the normal bars of 4/4), and having lots of different keyboard sounds, including some lead parts! I've been enjoying using more non-guitar sounds in my covers, and playing keys as well despite my keyboard that's not very good. I also wanted to make sure this didn't sound too much like the cover of this song by Snappleman from the Project Chaos OCRemix album. That was an album I listened to a ton when I was younger, and although I think I succeeded in making mine sound different, I ironically ended up with a lead synth sound reminiscent of Snappleman's covers anyway lol.
For the video, since I've felt pretty lukewarm on my green screen results so far, I decided to take a different approach with this one, and record most of it like I used to, but record some parts with my green screen to put over top. I found that I couldn't move around as much with the green screen, especially for the bass and rhythm parts where I tend to move a lot, so this was a nice compromise, and I think it looks mostly better, although I'm still working through issues with green screen lighting. You can probably still see some spots where the edges of my guitar (and myself) look a little strange. I think I'm slowly getting there though!

I've been planning on doing this one for months! I'm glad I finally got a chance to do it, and I also got my friends DisposedHeroVGM and Sumask to lend their talents for it, so special thanks to them for doing some excellent shredding on this one!
I've had the idea for how I wanted to arrange this cover for a few months, so that part went by pretty quickly. The main part I knew I wanted to do for sure is the long ending part, that is really just the riff from the last section of the original song, but slowed down and transposed down from B minor to F# minor. I based that whole section on the end of a couple Dream Theater songs (namely The Dark Eternal Night and S2N) that have this sludgy riff going by with a keyboard solo on top. This one ended up being some keyboard and guitar, but I think I still pulled off that kind of vibe pretty well (with Sumask's help of course!)
This is the second video I've done with my green screen, and I'm still not entirely sure about whether I like it or not. I'm definitely not super good at using it properly yet; there's some unavoidable artifacts in the video (mostly just small outlines and the very edges of my instruments disappearing a tiny bit), but it's still very watchable. I also tried using my webcam for recording instead of my phone, although I'll probably go back to my phone because the quality is a bit better, and I'll probably have better results with the green screen now that I know how to film it better than the first time. Trying to edit myself into the rooms of my contributors who don't use green screens was also an interesting and fun challenge!
This is also the first video I made using my new computer! It's been amazing so far, with very few of the hiccups, lag, and general slowness of my previous laptop. I was actually able to watch the preview of my video in the video editor!

Happy Halloween! This cover is part of this month's 8-Bit Battleground event, where we all did our own cover of this song. Make sure to check everyone out here (including a special guest! we will hopefully have a guest spot every month):

For this one, I decided to use my acoustic guitar (as well as another acoustic tuned with Nashville tuning for that pseudo-12 string effect) for a good chunk of it, but couldn't resist adding heavier guitars later on lol. I noticed that the original song reminded me a bit of Porcupine Tree, so I decided to try to further push the sound in that kind of direction (at least the not-as-heavy parts... the heavier parts ended up sounding a bit more like Dream Theater and Haken)
I also didn't use the green screen this time, since my laptop isn't good enough to edit those videos, but I am building a new desktop computer so the green scree will return after that :)

....IT'S DONE! It took me over three weeks to complete this monstrosity, so hopefully it was worth it lol. I decided to do my first ever medley-style cover as a little 200 Subscriber special, and to just do something new! The arrangement style wasn't the only thing new about this video though, as I ended up getting a green screen and filmed/edited the video in a whole new way!
I decided to go with the lesser known, 8-Bit version of the first Sonic the Hedgehog game, released for the Game Gear and Master System, as it has a more obscure soundtrack that is largely different from the more well-known version of the game. Whether it's better than the Genesis version, hard to say for me, but it's pretty close aside from being lower audio quality. I also shot myself with the foot with this one as it ended up being the hardest video so far performance-wise... and this was right after Fight with Seymour which was the hardest so far as well!
This was the most amount of time spent on a project so far. 75 hours!! The next longest one was my very first video game cover, mostly due to it being a new and unfamiliar process for me. The same kind of thing happened for this one, with trying to arrange a medley of multiple songs, and filming/editing a different style of video. Not to mention it's 10 minutes long lol.

This cover was done as part of this month's 8-Bit Battleground event! What is that? Well, it's a thing and 7 of my online friends put together where we all do our own cover of the same song, and the song for each month is chosen by you the viewers, from a pool of songs we've selected. Make sure to check out everyone else in the list below for their cover of this song! (AnimalisaKeys was not available this month due to being out of the country, but still check out her channel anyways!)

For this cover, I didn't want to do any more than one full go through of the original song since it's already 3 minutes long before looping, but I still wanted to add a little bit to the end, so I went with just going back to the earlier part of the song and then coming back to the 7/8 riff towards the end and ending in there. I also changed the intro slightly by putting that 7/8 riff underneath so make it a bit of my own, plus I'm a simp for odd time riffs so I had to do it haha.
This song was also very challenging to play, between the constant stamina needed to play the bass parts and the crazy keyboard parts of the original that don't translate to guitar in a very friendly way, but I managed to pull it off!

I finally got this one out! I got randomly sick for 3 days so I got pretty behind on it. It's gonna make me really crunch for my next video, since it's for 8-Bit Battleground on the 25th.
I've been wanting to do a song from Octopath Traveler since I started playing it at the end of April, but wasn't really sure which song to do. Once I got to this part of the game, I knew it had to be this one. It reminded me of Chrono Trigger a bit, and turns out its because it uses the same chord progression as Schala's Theme, except in E minor instead of Bb minor.
I upgraded my drum VST, EZDrummer, by getting the Expansion pack Drumkit from Hell, which adds a lot more pieces (mostly cymbals) to my drumkit, so hopefully my drums can sound better and more interesting from now on. :) Let me know if you think they sound better or worse than previous videos!
Up next is Fight with Seymour from Final Fantasy X for the next 8-Bt Battleground (if I can manage to get that one done in time...)! After that, I'll hopefully be doing something a little different arrangement-wise for my 200-sub special...

Since I've done a song from the first two games already, I figured I should do one from the third at some point! I also managed to get my friend CRGuitar to contribute some great lead playing and creepy death stares to this one, so extra special thanks to him!
This one was also an entry in August's Dwelling of Duels, where it won 8th place out of 37 entries!
For this one, I decided to turn it into a fun bluesy jam session of sorts, since the original is just a 25-second 12-bar blue that repeats. I also covered the slower version that plays in Blue's Beach Hut, as well as the faster version that plays once Blue receives his birthday gift! I had a lot of fun playing around with the genre of this one, all while still retaining the bluesy feel.

Doing another Metroid song finally! I figured it was a good time since this game (and thus, the entire series) celebrated its 35th anniversary recently, and the new Metroid Dread was also announced recently. I decided to go with the original Brinstar theme which is an absolute classic, but I had to put my own spin on it of course and play with the time signature a bit.

I also said I wanted to try doing 4 videos a month, but I realized trying to do 4 videos in a calendar month, (ie. 4 for July, 4 for August etc.) was a bit much, since I often have a specific deadline for 8-Bit Battlefield and sometimes Dwelling of Duels as well. So I decided rather than caring about how many videos come out any particular month, I'm just gonna try to get 4 every 28-32 days (so basically a month, but not necessarily tied to a specific month by name). This means I should have another 3 out by the 13th of next month!
For the arrangement of this one, I didn't want to venture too far outside the original vibe of the original, since there aren't really much in the way of Ristar covers on YouTube, plus this one ended up being on the shorter side as far as my covers are concerned -- I felt it naturally just wanted two repetitions of the song and that was it. Not to mention being shorter compensated a bit for the difficulty of recording it. :P I think it turned out pretty well!

This one was a request from a fellow ex-classmate, so thanks to my friend Liam for requesting this song! I never played The Last of Us or heard this song before so I had to listen carefully quite a bit before trying to do this one. It was definitely a challenge just to figure out what to do with it, since the original is such a minimalist piece. I ended up turning it into a pretty proggy metal/rock song with lots of meter changes that kind of mimic the flowy tempo feel of the original. I also experimented a bit with the harmony the original song offers by adding some colourful extended chords (although I pretty much try to shove those kinds of chords in all my covers haha).
I also decided to experiment a bit and include a sampled string section. They sound pretty fake, but I think it still turned out alright mixed in with everything else.
I did say I wanted four videos in June, but I may end up delaying one until July since this one took me so long to arrange (plus I had an unexpected trip at the beginning of the month). If I do manage to finish my next one soon enough, it will be a fun little song from the 3rd game of a series I've covered songs from before, and it will have a special guest! If not, I'll sideline it so I can complete the next 8-Bit Battleground tune on time.

Can't believe month 3 of 8-Bit Battleground is already here! If you're not familiar with it, every month, eight of us (usually) will make their own cover of the same video game song, and then everyone gets to vote on their two favourite entries, and the winner gets to choose the next song we cover! We also do a live stream to watch all the videos for the first time on the deadline date. This month there are only 6 entries however, as two people needed to drop unfortunately.
To vote, go here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScV8Oqcfu-c1as_Qsl7pvg5LWKrnf1HNOz2nZcw3JuHCFpdLg/viewform

For this one, I decided to take a bit of a different approach, and not change the structure of the song at all, and not even repeat it once. I feel this worked out for the better in this case! I loved being able to ramp up the intensity and then ramp it down quickly, without even using any distorted rhythm guitars or drums for that matter.
