DIY Hammock Sleep Pad Ultra Light Grubkat 2013-09-17 | Simple and inexpensive. I have a self inflating sleeping pad. But it slips and slides under me when I hammock camp. Using one of my old mil surp pads, I made a decent and useful replacement until I can get a nice under quilt to go with my sleep system. The mil surp pad is somewhat bulky. Simple Cat Can Alcohol Stove ( Ultra Light ) Grubkat 2013-07-07 | I have experimented with several DIY alcohol stoves. The Cat Can Stove is the easiest to make. With an impressive burn time for such a simple design. You do not need a pot stand with this stove. It is ultra light and ridiculously inexpensive to make. I will be taking mine out on my next hammock camping trip. I have tested it here at home and an ounce ( or better) of fuel is all you need for around a six minute ( give or take ) boil time. Not bad.I used a 3/16 drill bit.80 grit sand paper. A small flat file.A marker and good ol' know how. You can use a hole punch if you like as well.If you had to. You could make this stove with just a pocket knife. Go make something and feel good about it!
