The inn was built just around the corner in 1999.
The story of The Emperor's New Clothes is played on audio during the show. This is in the Dutch language. Please find below a translation for your benefit. ------------- There was once a vain emperor who liked nothing better but to parade around.
For each hour of the day he had a wonderful new set of clothes.
The people obeyed as they always have, standing behind the golden gates ready to obey the emperors order.
Bound by duty to acclaim him and to stroke his vain ego.
Two of his subjects were most bent out of shape, so much vanity was quite unheard of.
That is why they thought of a trick and appeared at the gates of the palace.
They kneeled before him , kissed his feet and told him..
We are imperial tailors and travel from palace to palace.
Especially for you we will weave you a garment so colourful and so special.
A fabric invisible to the dumb, is that not phenomenal?
The emperor ordered then to weave this fabric ready to be made into clothing.
The teahouse was equipped as a sewing studio for them and they were paid in coins.
The tailors started to work, this wasn’t just anything.
They snipped and weaved and sewed the most beautiful …nothing.
The emperor could wait no longer, the minutes felt like hours .
That’s why he sent his prime minister to take a peek at the tailors.
The minister went pale when he saw. The tailors weaving and folding busily.
But their hands were empty. Was he to consider himself dumb?
The minister, terribly shocked quickly thought up a tactic.
With much enthusiasm he proclaimed to the emperor: It is becoming magnificent!
Overjoyed by the good news and preceded by his imperial procession.
The emperor dove into the teahouse to meet his new clothes.
Now that the emperor was finally allowed to try on the clothes, he turned a little bit pale.
He turned this way and that in front of the mirror. But could not see the clothes no matter how he tried.
The emperor felt dumb but his court was cheering.
The clothes must be beautiful, so he told himself.
The emperor took a deep breath when he saw his people standing behind the golden gates.
But with his head held high he decided to go outside.
“Oh! He isn’t wearing anything!” cried out a little rogue.
It was silent for a moment but soon everyone was laughing at the emperor.
With shame on his cheeks but with a worthy royal step.
The emperor realised that he had been tricked.Diorama - EftelingAEGTTE2014-08-28 | Feast your eyes on this 60 metre-long miniature world where one minute it’s night and the next it’s day.
The Dancing Shoes A long time ago there was a little girl who was so poor that she always had to walk barefoot. When Karen's mother died, she came to live with a sweet old lady. She liked this very much. She got new clothes and new shoes for the first time. A rich shoemaker from the city made her beautiful red patent leather shoes. On a Sunday, she went to church with her new red shoes. All the people looked at her. "Red shoes in church?! "They said to each other. That just won't do. In front of the church stood a soldier with a long beard. He did not like vain girls and said, "Those are beautiful dancing shoes but they are no good for church. They are for dancing. ". Karen could not resist trying a few dance steps. But what happened? Her shoes kept on dancing. Continually. The old lady's coachman had to lift her into the carriage and take off her shoes for her. One day the old lady was taken ill. But Karen did not care for that sweet old lady. No, she went instead to a grand ball. She put on her red shoes and immediately they started to dance. She danced her way out of the room and out into the world. Karen could not stop. The shoes were dancing and dancing. And Karen was so tired. How long she danced we do not know. A day, a week? But one day she danced her way past a small house. In it lived an executioner. "Take my shoes!" yelled Karen. "I will do just that" said the executioner. He took his ax and chopped the shoes of her feet. Karen ran as fast as she could back to the old lady. But the shoes danced on into the world. Look. Here they are dancing still.
The Indian Water lilies At night, when the moon shines in this beautiful jungle, be sure to pay attention to these beautiful water lilies. These flowers were once stars, who together with the moon and the other stars, danced at night on the water. One morning a few stars did not listen when the moon goddess called for them to go back. They danced and danced, until a witch appeared. As punishment the witch changed them into water lilies. And only in moonlit nights will the witch return. And then it happens.Vrouw Holle in the EftelingAEGTTE2012-09-07 | There once was a woman who had two daughters, Rita and Mina Rita was very sweet but Mina was lazy and stupid, but even still the mother loved Mina more. The lazy daughter. Therefore Rita always got stuck with the tedious jobs. One day Rita dropped her spindle coil into the well. She dared not go home without it. Desperate she jumped into the water of the well. She sank down and fell into a totally different world. What did she hear there? She heard cries. "Take us out we're done!". Rita hurried to where the voices came from. Look, there were steaming bread buns in the oven. Rita quickly removed them from the hot oven. When she turned suddenly there was an old woman standing behind her. "You're an industrious girl, would you like to work for me?". This was something Rita wanted and from then on she worked for Frau Holle. She polished and scrubbed and shook the bedding so hard that it snowed on earth. But after a while she got homesick. She longed to return to Earth. She took leave of Frau Holle and when she left the house as a reward she was completely covered in gold. Covered in this way Rita arrived home.
But when her sister saw this she was terribly jealous and you know what that lazy Mina did? She jumped into the well. Once arrived at the bottom she heard calling. "Pick us pick us! We are ripe ". They were shiny apples on a tree. But Mina was lazy and did not pick them. But she did go to work for Frau Holle. Well work... really she didn't do anything. Mother Holle was therefore very angry and when the time came to say goodbye. Mina instead of gold, was covered in tar. Pitch black, she came back to earth. No one recognized her anymore and the cock crowed kiekeriekier kiekeriekieer! Black Mina is here again.Spookslot (Haunted Castle) in the EftelingAEGTTE2012-09-07 | Het Spookslot
The Haunted Castle
"Long, long ago, when in times of storm and high water the Maas could still
reach the foot of this fortress, the fourth Viscount of Kaatsheuvel Capelle lived
in this castle.
He collected fairy tales and legends from around the world and ... practiced
magic. He could make the flowers sing and the walls dance. There was only one
obstacle in his life, the wicked witch Visculamia. She lived under lock and key
in nearby Druinen.
She wanted to take his tales away from him. One day, when the witch was on
the prowl disguised as an untempered young maiden, she was caught by the
gardener of castle 'De Efteling. By the three judges of the Duchy she was
condemned to the stake in the eastern wing of the palace.
With her last breath she spoke a curse in which the Viscount was doomed
forever to find his last story ...: his daughter, Esmeralda.
And every time the water of the Maas rises, the enchanted crow of Visculamia
strikes the clock at twelve. Then the corpse of the gardener who betrayed her
dangles from the bell cord again. The judges who condemned her, wail from the
attic window and in the catacombs the count chases his daughter, without ever
finding her...
While the flowers sing and the walls dance. The witch's throws her curses into
the sarcophagus where the remains of the Count lie trapped. On the south hill of
the yard his daughter will find no peace. And this will continue for many a year,
until the song of flowers the owls' eyes doth close, lulls the evil crow, and the
curse is broken ...."Droomvlucht (Dreamflight) in the EftelingAEGTTE2012-09-07 | ...Restaurant tPoffertje (The Little Dutch Pancake) in de EftelingAEGTTE2012-09-06 | ...Fata Morgana (Mirage) in the EftelingAEGTTE2012-09-05 | Very very far away lays an eastern city called Fata Morgana. The Sultan is ruler of the city and possess anything he ever wanted. He preys on money and holds huge parties for rich people. These however are only allowed to come if they bring money.
About ruling the city however he wants no part off, he just lets that run its course. The market is soiled by dodgy market people who will try and sell you anything . Thieves and other scum roam the streets. It's absolutely not safe for rich people.
In the prison it's even worse. Prisoners in the treadmills keep the fire hot. It's hard and heavy work. The supervisors whip the people when they don't work hard enough. Whenever someone collapses he is thrown in the prison cells. Many different prisoners are wasting away and justice is nowhere to be found.
One day the sultan fancied something new. He wanted to see the future! He sent his servant out to find him a soothsayer. After a couple of weeks the servant returned with a soothsayer named Futura. The sultan was very impatient and asked the soothsayer what the future would bring. Futura said: " you will live in wealth for forty more months and then all will be over! You can change your fate and avoid this curse by playing all the songs of the birds on this magic flute." " Oh Go away" said the sultan indignantly. "You liar! Be gone from my sight!"
The soothsayer left and fourtymonths went by. On the first day of the forty first month the sultan stepped outside for a bit of fresh air on his balcony. Dark clouds rolled in around the city. " Oh" thought the sultan, "Its probably just another monsoon, I had better go back inside." He had just closed the doors behind him when heavy weather broke loose.
It rained for a very long time, the streets were empty and the water just kept rising until the whole city was completely flooded. Buildings crumbled under the pressure and everyone drowned! Almost everyone, two servants of the sultan has stolen the magic flute after the soothsayer left. They had been practicing the songs of the birds. When the storms started a pack of birds came to take the two servants away. In this way only they escaped death. In heel china was iedereen daarom zeer verdrietig. Want alle mensen hielden veel van hun keizer. Keizer: "Neee Neeee Neee Ga Weg!! Neee Ga Weg !! " Dood: "Je bent van mij. The Chinese Nightingale Long ago there lived an emperor in China. He loved the very finest of things, and when he heard that there was a bird in his empire who sang so beautifully that people came from afar to hear his songs. He gave the order to look for this bird. The nightingale was very honoured and that night he appeared at the window of the emperor. Emperor: "Is this all?! ...Exclaimed the disappointed emperor at the sight of the simple grey bird. But the song of the nightingale struck the emperor right at the heart. Tears of emotion streamed over his cheeks. Emperor: "This is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard!" ...He gasped. And every evening the nightingale appeared at his window and sang its highest song to the emperor. But one day a large package was delivered. In which a mechanical nightingale sat, set with diamonds and precious gemstones. When you wound it up it would move and sing its highest song. Emperor: "This one is much lovelier than the real one! And sings just as beautifully." ...Thought the emperor. He told the nightingale that he no longer needed to return. As he had a much better one now. And many a year the emperor listened to his lovely nightingale. Until something terrible happened. Suddenly an awful sound came from the bird. After which it was silent and no matter what the emperor tried it was to no avail. The emperor was inconsolable. He became sick with grief. Throughout China everyone was so very sad. For all the people loved their emperor dearly. Emperor: "Nooo Nooo Nooo Go Away! Nooo Go Away! " Death: "You are mine. I now own the symbols of your power, your crown, your sword and the imperial flag. I'd take away your greatest asset, your life. Hear how your life flows away. In my empire you will serve me. Riches will not help you. Only the warmth of unconditional love and loyalty could save you now from the cold of death. "" He?, he?! Aaahh!?" Servant: "Hmm? The emperor. Alive?! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rapunzel There was once a couple and they lived next door to a witch. When the woman became pregnant she had an irresistible craving for Rapunzel. Rapunzel is of a type of lettuce that grows in the garden of the witch. "You can eat as much Rapunzel as you like, but in exchange I get your baby." The child, named Rapunzel was so beautiful that the witch locked her away in a tower with no doors and no stairs. When she brought her food she cried: "Rapunzel Rapunzel let down your hair." And then Rapunzel dropped her long braid out of the window so that the witch could climb in to the tower. When a young prince saw this one night he also visited Rapunzel, and they instantly fell in love. When the witch discovered their love, she was so angry that she cut off Rapunzel's braid. "I'll banish you to some desolate place!" the prince jumped out the window in sorrow by which he became blind. And how did the story end? Years later, Rapunzel found him. Her tears of joy touched his eyes again because of which the prince could see again. And they lived happily ever after.Carnaval Festival in the EftelingAEGTTE2012-09-03 | ...De Zes Dienaren (The Six Servants)AEGTTE2012-09-02 | The Six Servants A long time ago in a distant land a beautiful princess lived. She was so lovely that many princes had come to ask for her hand in marriage. But her stepmother was a wicked queen, who was very miserly, and always wanted to be richer. Therefore, each prince had to do something very difficult ere she would consent to a marriage. And, if he could not, then the executioner cut off his head, and the queen then took possession of all the land the dead prince had owned. There there had been many princess that wanted to marry the princess, but could not accomplish the very difficult something. The wicked queen had gotten quite wealthy. One day, however, another prince reported to the Queen. And because he was much smarter than his predecessors, he had hired six servants on the way, each of which possessed a very special quality. The first, called Putoor (Pitear) had such big ears that he could hear all that was happening in the world. Springkuit (Jump Calf), the second servant, had such long legs, that he would run from here to China in half an hour. The third had such a great belly, more than long ladders were needed in order to see over it. His name was Heuvelbuik (Hillbelly). The fourth, known as Kogeloog (Bulleteye), was always kept blindfolded, because his eyes were so strong that anything he looked at would explode into pieces. The fifth was a wonderful guy. This one, the hotter it got, the colder he felt. His name was therefore Koukleum (Shivery). And the sixth, could stretch his neck so far that he could see all that was happening in the world. His name was Langnek (Longneck). How friendly the false queen was, when yet another prince came to ask for the hand of the princess. "Sure," she said, "Of course you can marry the princess. However, you have to see to it that within a quarter of an hour she will be standing right here in front of me. "Now that did not seem all that difficult to the prince. But when Langnek had stretched out his neck and Putoor put his ear to the ground, to listen, it appeared that the princess was sitting at the other end of the kingdom and was crying. This made the prince very sad, for he thought: "Oh, I could never get the princess here within a quarter of an hour." But he had not accounted for Springkuit. He quickly put the prince on his back, took under his one arm Kogeloog and Koukleum and under his other arm Heuvelbuik, and he began to run, so fast that Putoor could no longer see him after just three counts. After just a few minutes they arrived at the other side of the country. However, a large water passage blocked them. No problem! Heuvelbuik drank all the water, and they went on, until they came to a large rock they could not cross. But Kogeloog jumped into action. He pulled the blindfold away from his eyes and BENGGG! The rock exploded into pieces. Moments later they came on to a great fire. But Koukleum only had to blow on it with his icy cold breath, and all the fire extinguished immediately . The Prince and Sprinkuit ran on, and oh yes: There they found the princess. She was sitting under a big tree on the moss, and her face was wet with tears. But that soon changed when she realized that the prince was here to come to her rescue. "Now hurry back Springkuit,"said the Prince, "Because time is short!" "Hahaha, hah, then I finally let loose," said Springkuit, he took the prince and the princess on his back and began to run like he had never run before. Along the way they picked up Koukleum, Kogeloog and Heuvelbuik, and were returned to the palace in an instant. There Langnek and Putoor were already waiting for the prince holding the princes horse by the bridle. How angry the false queen was, when she saw that the prince had returned within a quarter of an hour with the princess. Yes, however she had to accept their marriage now. The prince took the princess for before him on his horse, and then they rode on to his country. Well, you can understand how great a wedding was celebrated there. Yes, thus they lived happily ever together. Where the servants Heuvelbuik, Putoor, Koukleum and Springkuit subsequently went, nobody knows anything about it. But Langnek, together with Kogeloog.... Yes, they went to the Efteling. Because, as Langnek said "Because here I will never, never tire of looking around." And so it became that Langnek is still right here today....Restaurant De Witte Paard (The White Horse) in the EftelingAEGTTE2012-09-02 | ...Klaas Vaak show in Bosrijk (Mr Sandman show in Bosrijk)AEGTTE2012-09-02 | ...
