Dark Souls - SL 3 Sorcerer Playthrough Pt.1 (w/commentary)
updated
For reference my character has 105 agi, thus he has 13 iFrames in his roll. For those that haven't seen it yet, I did some iFrame testing yesterday and posted results on Reddit. Check out the link here:

If so I can probably do more in the future, if not then it'll be a one shot deal.
For reference, the character in the witch outfit is in NG+ at SL 1.

*Note: Due to having to download the stream parts in FLV, convert to MP4, edit and then render again the quality will probably be a bit lower than the previous parts. This is why most of my stream conversions will be unedited in the future.

*Note: This is a direct stream transfer so there is no extra editing. I probably won't make any Youtube specific videos until the PC version is released as the quality will be far better than capturing from the PS3.

For those wanting to extend the challenge, which I suggest as it will make you much better at the game and force you to learn all the monsters weaknesses and such, then follow these rules in addition to the original.
1. Port Tanzia doesn't change, the only quests available are the same ones that are open to the Great Jaggi portion of the challenge.
2. Once you beat Great Jaggi you may do all open village quests up until the first Peco quest. This means Arzuros, Great Wroggi, etc.. I didn't feel these guys were worth a speedrun and allowing their gear opened up a lot more possibilities making the challenge more fun.
3. After Peco you can do everything up until Gobul which happens to be the urgent quest. Keep in mind once you defeat Gobul another set of quests opens but you may not do them until after you've gotten your best Gobul time.
4. As with the previous rules, you may not use the parts of the monster you are currently speed running. Using them is the reward for getting a good time and moving forward.
You can extend this challenge as far as you want to by just following the same basic rules.
Choose the next monster, allow all quests up until that point, don't use that monster's parts until you've completed your best time, etc...
The Challenge:
Start a fresh game and complete the quest "Pain in the Plains" with the fastest quest time you can manage using only gear and resources available before completing any large monster quests in the village or port.
Rules:
1. You may only use gear and resources available without completing any large monster quests. The only quests you can complete are the gathering, small monster killing and harvest quests. If a large monster appears in the quest you may kill it and use it's parts, but any quest specific to killing a large monster is off limits. You may not complete a quest just to open up the next rank, part of the challenge is being stuck in the lower star quests. Anything the vendors sell, the boat(s) bring back or you can harvest is allowed.
2. You must do this solo, no getting help online with G Rank buddies killing things for you or giving you items. This bypasses the challenge.
3. You may complete the "Pain in the Plains" quest as many times as you like in order to perfect your speed-run, however you may not use any of the Great Jaggi parts to make gear. Sell them or save them for after the challenge, just don't use them to make gear. The challenge is using gear before the Great Jaggi, not using his gear.
The challenge is complete when you achieve a time you are content with, or that you can't improve upon. If you take on this challenge then drop a comment with your time and method to share with others. If you have the ability to record your run then feel free to send a video response to this video for others to enjoy. I will post my best time sometime next week for those that are interested in my time and methods.
If there are enough people interested in this challenge I may extend it to a few more monsters and then the final tally will be the sum of all quest times across the chosen monsters. I would consider Qurepeco, Gobul, Rathian and maybe even the "Repel the Lagiacrus" quests as additions and would follow the same rules about only using gear available before each quest. IE; After you defeat Jaggi then you may do any and all quests up to the first village Qurepeco, and then do that quest until you're satisfied but without using any Peco parts.

Also I was drinking and having a bit of fun so the playthrough is a bit less serious than usual. -- www.twitch.tv/vageta311/c/2569173&utm_campaign=archive_export&utm_source=vageta311&utm_medium=youtube
The idea of the challenge is to make it as far as possible in BBI with a fresh character on normal difficulty without doing any of the old world content. BBI is extremely difficult for a new character, but the quality of the drops makes it possible to get geared up quickly if you can make it to the chests. When I started this challenge I was sure it wasn't even complete-able but I eventually did finish it so it's entirely possible.
Rules:
1. You must do only what is necessary in game to reach BBI and go no further. Specifically you must reach the encampment, create your pawn and then defeat the Hydra. You may go no further but can do anything from that area back to BBI.
2. You must play offline and only use your own pawn. You may not recruit other pawns, especially other players' pawns, nor are you allowed to put your pawn online for others to use. This negates most of the challenge.
This challenge is about how far you can go using your own character and pawn without relying on anyone else.
Note: I was short on time and only added commentary for the first half of the video. If there is enough interest then I will continue to stream the challenge on Twitch and can then transfer it over to Youtube. The first challenge I streamed using an Assassin was far too long to make into youtube videos but now that I have a better understanding I should be able to do it in far less time.
You can find me streaming during the weekend evenings as well as late night during the week at Twitch.tv/vageta311.

The quality will probably be very poor. I need to tweak my settings to find the best combination of resolution and upload bitrate. My mistake was trying to stream in 720 which caused pixelization during fast movements. Part 5 was the 2nd day of the stream and I knocked down the resolution to 540 and it helped keep up.
However I would call my first stream attempt a success. I peaked up to 500 viewers and kept 400 during most of the run. Thanks to all that watched, it was fun to interact with everyone while playing the game. There will be more streaming to come.
Sadly the 2nd half of 5-2 is missing from the stream. I have no idea why it's missing but it's not in the original saved file on Twitch anymore.

What to expect from the stream? Probably just about anything I may be playing at the time. I often play random games but don't want to commit to doing a playthrough on Youtube. This way I'll simply be able to broadcast anytime I play something and will have the option of just adding it to my Youtube account afterwards. I play a wide variety of games, old and new, so you can expect just about anything. I'm burnt out on Dark Souls right now but I may be talked into continuing my NG+7 challenge at some point via streaming it live.
My first official Stream will be Friday May 24th sometime in the late afternoon or early evening (3-5pm PST). I will be doing a low level character run (my 1st Demon's Souls challenge) so if I don't finish Friday I will probably stream again on Saturday. Depending on time I may also play some Ghoul's and Ghosts, classic Street Fighter or anything else that could be interesting for you guys to watch.

The footage in this video is about a month old that I never used. It was a quick challenge I came up with and posted on reddit called "ring the bells". Basic rules were to choose any class, stick to your starter equipment only (besides rings) with absolutely no upgrades and then ring both bells as well as obtaining the abyssal ring from Sif. So basically it boiled down to taking on the gargoyles, Quelaag and Sif with a base level character with un-upgraded starting gear. Not incredibly difficult, but probably harder than it sounds for most players.
I talk about difficulty options that I would love to see in Dark Souls 2 as well as the non-stop backstab hate mongering that happens in Dark Souls. I'm a pretty opinionated guy so some of what I say might come off as harsh but in the end it's still only an opinion.
For anyone who seemed capable of handling it I ended up fully helping, though out of all the summons we only made it to the Gargoyles once. This wasn't so much making fun of anyone, there were actually some good players. One guy even had the balls to parry the Berenike Knight. It was more about how difficult NG+7 really is, especially when you aren't aware until it's too late.
The song is "Symphony of Destruction" by Megadeth.
I'm running out of things to talk about with Dark Souls so I end up rambling on about other things. Let me know if this is too far out in left field or if it's still more enjoyable than no commentary.
This won't be a complete challenge run video series as I don't have the time to commit to it, but it's meant to be a challenge to the community for those hardcore souls players that are looking for the ultimate legitimate challenge that doesn't rely on crazy gimmicks. If enough people like the idea and enjoy the video I may be persuaded to do 1 or 2 more though I can't promise any more than that. Beating Gwyn wouldn't be an issue for me, but if there is any 1 boss that you guys think would represent the ultimate challenge using this ruleset I may record the game far enough to reach him/them.
Rules of the challenge:
1. Must start at SL 1.
2. Must play through normally, no BB glitch or save editing.
3. Must earn the right to level using the point system.
- One shotting a boss gives 2 points.
- Two shotting a boss gives 1 point.
- One shotting a mini boss gives 1 point.
- Use this list for what constitutes as a mini boss(http://darksouls.wikidot.com/bosses).
- Anything that respawns does not give points for obvious reasons.
- I originally took out the Giant rat and included the Berenike Knight, but for simplicity I'm switching it back. This way the mini-boss list is perfect as is and there will be no more confusion. If you already did it the other way it's fine, both are easy to kill.
- Boss fights with multiple opponents allow for 1 hit on each to count for a "one shot". However you aren't allowed 2 hits on each boss for a "two shot" kill. In that situation you must still one shot at least one of them to get the point.
- 4 Kings counts as a double boss, same as O&S.
- Causing an enemy to fall off a cliff due to your attack counts. Purposely trying to make an enemy fall on their own does not.
4. Single attacks with multiple hits count as one attack(ripostes, firestorm, homing soul mass, etc... Since "one attack challenge" sounds lame, I just called it "one shot challenge".
5. When you reach a point in the game where you are stuck and can't progress due to not being able to take any of the remaining bosses down in 2 or less hits, the challenge is over.
6. The goal is not necessarily to win the game, it is simply to gain the most amount of points before you cannot make any further progress. This requires a bit of strategy and forethought as opposed to pure skill.
7. No you may not summon a friend to use the trident dance buff on you.

The basic crux of the challenge is to earn points that enable you to level up by defeating bosses in one or two shots. Doing it in one gives you more points that will allow you to progress further than those taking the easy way out and relying on 2 shots. In order to reach the furthest possible point in the game you will have to level efficiently and not waste any points/levels for something you may not end up using later. There is a lot of planning and strategy involved in this challenge as you will have to decide when to sacrifice losing points on a boss or mini-boss in order to obtain gear to help you out later. There may be times where you can't one shot a boss or mini-boss, but need to get past them for some reason. You will have to decide whether or not to come back later and give up on the item you want, or take them down anyway and lose points that could haunt you later.
If enough people are interested I can post scores in the video descriptions as well as my site.
*** Note ***
This video will be the final part of the series. It's a bit long but I decided to keep it as one instead of making 2 smaller ones. I was up late working on it so be forewarned in order to start the upload before I left for work I was unable to do my usual proof-watching to make sure everything was ok. That means there could be some rough commentary or editing in a few areas but hopefully I was able to catch everything.

We're getting close to the end guys. All I have left to do is switch the worlds to pure black, which I"ll be doing off-screen, and then take on the Black Phantoms NPC's for each level as well as find and kill the primevil demons. After that it's a quick trip back through 1-4 and since there's no Dragon it will be a pretty easy boss run. I'm not sure if that will end up being all in one video, or if I'll have to break it up. Since you've already seen all the levels I may skip some of the running and just show my actual battles with the BPs and killing of the primevil demons.
*** Note ***
When explaining the upgrade system I mistakenly reversed the Moon and Crescent upgrade details but I later correct it in the video.
