The two 12-foot prospector figures on top of the sign were designed and molded by wax artist Katherine Stubergh - “The Madame Tussaud of America” - and built by YESCO in their Salt Lake City factory in 1954. When the sign was on the figures would move the their pans filled with lighted “gold” from side to side. YESCO copyrighted the figure (he’s a double). In the copyright the character was given a name: Dan, the miner.
Milton Prell & partner’s Lucky Strike Club opened June 1954 and remained open for nine years. When Lucky Strike Club was dismantled the two figures were relocated to the front of Gold Strike Inn, Boulder City, as the centerpiece of a roadside theme park. There they remained in Boulder City for 35 years. The figures were moved again in '98 to the parking lot of former Terrible’s Hotel & Casino in Jean. In 2024 during the demolition of Terrible’s, the two figures were relocated to Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings, one on display, the other in storage.
