WMD MSCL Eurorack Compressor - Recommended settings for Master Bus Processing WMDevices 2022-07-08 | Compression can be a bit mysterious and as most of us got into modular to "wiggle" knobs and be hands-on, it can be counter-intuitive to have a module in the rig that's a "set and forget" style thing.Compressors can be used on any instrument, submix, or the entire master bus. In this video, Alex quickly demonstrates using the MSCL while it is patched in the Master Insert section of the performance mixer, processing the entire mix. You'll get to hear what too much compression sounds like and then get an example of a nice starting point to set the MSCL's parameters for master bus processing.Compressors are best set by using your ears. You can get an idea of where to start from this video and see what's happening by looking at the LED, but it you will likely need to do some adjustments to the Comp knob to dial in a good sound on your mix. How to create very slow / long eurorack envelope signals with WMD Javelin WMDevices 2022-05-27 | When we talk about envelopes we usually are boasting about how fast and snappy they can get, what the shapes do to the sound, and what modules they should control, but an equally important topic is how slow they can go. Many envelopes have a fixed time range. So even if they have the ability to go really fast and really slow, dialing in the perfect length can be hard because of all of that range. Javelin has three ranges, so its easy to dial in whatever you're going for and if the longest range isn't enough, you can add CV to make it go even slower.In this video, Alex runs us through a patch he already created using the WMD Javelin ADSR Envelope / VCA eurorack module to control the overall intensity of the sounds coming out. He uses CV a CV offset from WMD 4tten into the Attack and Release inputs on Javelin to extend the overall time to about 2 minutes per stage. With 5 volts of CV, Javelin is capable of creating envelopes with each stage maxing out at 88 minutes! That seemed a bit much for this video but a 4+ minute envelope signal is still pretty good.The Envelope signal in this patch is routed all over the system using mults. It controls volume, filter cutoff, an LFO's speed, and eventually a comparator sends a gate to Fracture, adding another voice and increasing the chaos.This patch is just one example of what a long envelope signal can be used for. How to make snappy AR and AD Envelopes with an ADSR - Featuring WMD Javelin WMDevices 2022-05-20 | AD envelopes are great for making quick percussive sounds. An AR is similar however will stay open for the duration of the gate signal it receives. ADSR envelopes add a bit more contour and are great for classic synth sounds with varied gate lengths.In this video, Alex demonstrates the differences of each style of envelope and how to make them with the WMD Javelin Envelope + VCA combo. "Snappy" is a subjective term commonly used to describe the way an envelope sounds. It can be likened to word like quick, fast, plucky, blippy etc. AD envelopes are known for their snappy qualities and strengths in making percussive blips and bongo like sounds. The javelin has lots of really unique options for an envelope like Accent, voltage levels, time ranges, and a mode switch that makes it act much more like a triggered A/D than your common ADSR.
