The Flintstones - Rise and Shine Opening - Original vs Colorized Comparison Diaz Bros. 2025-09-15 | Apparently circa 1994 or 1995, Turner/Hannah-Barbera wanted to restore the opening of the first two seasons of the Flintsones, but were unable to find color copies of the sequence. Turner went as far as to colorize the black and white version, with their trademark desaturated colors and all.However, Earl Kress managed to find the original color versions and knew they would exist since Pat Ventura had the original exposure sheets to them, which had different versions labeled.The colorized version was added as a bonus on the Season 1 DVD box set. Historians believe the ending was changed entirely because it was not only considered by Harman and Ising too short but the characters were also drawn poorly and off-model.The soundtrack has not been discovered yet for this version, so a replacement music track was used.

Co-produced by the Hugh Harman and Rudolph Ising team, Harman & Ising worked with Disney during the early to mid 1920's, soon co-producing the first Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons between 1930 to 1933. They worked at other studios such as Van Beuren (1933) and MGM (1934-1942). Their repeated attempts to make quality cartoons and their budgetary issues led to numerous disputes with producers. This made them unable to create any enduring characters, instead creating studios that would later produce such characters.While the early Harman and Ising cartoons are often disdained for their lack of narrative focus (especially when compared to the later Warner Bros. cartoon masterpieces), their particular use of dialogue, music, and sound effects is what made them stand apart from Disney and made them a (then) success. The animation style used here is what one thinks of when thinking of "rubber-hose" style animation. That is why I'm using this kind of cartoon here for this collaboration. (aside from it being public domain so I can upload the video no worries👍)
