Juliann Coffey, data specialist at the Wilson Alaska Technical Center of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute, talks about a method of monitoring power consumption and system health of the power system at the International Monitoring System’s infrasound array in Antarctica. The station is a important to the mission of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban-Treaty Preparatory Commission Organization.

The station’s operators at the Wilson Alaska Technical Center are continually working on techniques to improve the power system to generate constant and reliable power to the array. It’s a challenge in a remote location with extreme climate conditions.

Juliann presented the latest on the project Wednesday at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco.
