Today, we're going to tell you about our Top 5 Board Games we played in August. This month we played the most games apart, as Ilya went to Gen Con and Tylor also travelled by himself. This video is a celebration of all these games!

We ended up playing 46 unique games with 55 total plays! We played games with 35 different people and 25 of the games we played were new to us! The games took us approximately 29 hours to play, which means more than a full day of gaming!

Wyrmspan: Dragon Academy is designed by Connie Vogelmann, illustrated by Clémentine Campardou, and published by Stonemaier Games, who shared an early copy of this game.

Wyrmspan: Dragon Academy adds a little bit of everything! New cave cardsm objectives, guilds, and dragons! Including two new dragon types! Fledglings, are essentially teenagers, which you'll need to train before they grant you benefits! New Guilds also throw in a mix of fun twists and turns which will modify your game to game!

On top of all of that, there is a new passing, end of round mechanic where you'll CHOOSE one of the available end of round incomes from a selection in a new round tracking board.

In The White Castle Duel, two clans vie for power within the White Heron’s court by gathering resources and building their influence. On your turn, you’ll spend lantern tokens to trigger actions and gain resources. These actions might let you acquire and upgrade influence cards, place clan seals in the gardens or training grounds, move your courtier through the circles of influence, or trade. Along the way, you’ll collect icons: flags, katanas, kabutos, and origami, that will generate points at the end of the game. When the dust settles, the clan with the most points claims victory.

In Into the Machine, you’ll command a team of bots racing for glory after hours in the factory. Each turn, you’ll assign pit crew bots to Terminals on the board and optionally play Power cards to move, upgrade, and deploy your circle-bots into the Machine. Circle-bots race to the right, where they can be upgraded into stronger pit crew or transformed into hex-bots. Hex-bots then race left toward the Leader Podium. The game ends when a player pulls ahead: either by being the first to place two hex-bots on the Podium before anyone else, or, if others are already there, by being the first to place three.

Each round has six phases, the dungeon phase where you'll draw and place chips to build out your own dungeon to see what you encounter that round, the resolution phase where you’ll resolve all the chips in your dungeon, gaining health, opening chests, and battling monsters, then the camp phase where you’ll spend experience to level up and refresh your skills, the path phase where you'll progress in your adventure, the tavern phase where you’ll catch up to your fellow adventurers, and finally the village phase where you’ll spend your hard earned gold for new chips and tools. Top 5 Board Games Played | Discovering Your Favorite Game For The First Time? | July Edition

kovray 2025-08-06 | Welcome to Kovray! We're a couple who adores board games and seeks to share our joy and passion with you. Today, we're going to tell you about our Top 5 Board Games we played in July. This month was a bit quieter for us, as summer is in full swing and we tried to spend many days and weekends outdoors, but nevertheless games were played!

We ended up playing 23 unique games with 28 total plays! We played games with 20 different people and 17 of the games we played were new to us! The games took us approximately 16 hours to play, which means almost a full day of gaming, even with the sun out.

How do you decide what your favourite game is? The gut feeling, the memories, or the overall experience? We'd love to hear your thoughts.

In Otters, you’ll take turns drawing and playing cards, aiming to collect the most valuable pearls, while avoiding the spiky sea urchins as if you have two in your hand at the end of your turn, you’re out for the game! The game will end when only one player remains, at which point you’ll reveal your pearls and urchins and the player with the most points wins.

In First-Class Letters you’ll play over 7 rounds, writing a new word each round. To score points you’ll need to use the dice behind the mail truck. The more you’re able to use them, the higher you’ll score, but be careful not to use the dead-letter as it’ll cancel out your word. Now the twist is that at the end of the game, your 7 words must be in alphabetical order.

Trinket Trove is played in six rounds (or five rounds in a 5 or 6 player game). Your aim is to collect the most points by acquiring a carefully curated collection of trinkets. You’ll do this by trading and offering up the trinkets you’ve collected in order to skillfully outwit your opponents and collect new ones. After the last round, you’ll score your hand of trinkets and the player with the best trove will win.
