1 - Use a small tin cup to pour the varnish into 2 - Use a varnish brush, preferably one that is dedicated to varnishing 3 - Make sure the painting is dry before varnishing. Also, make sure that you are not varnishing on a humid day. That can affect how the varnish dries. 4 - Take a very little amount of varnish and apply it to the surface. You do not have to scrub it in, gently go over the top of the painting. Apply it over the whole surface. Use the least amount to cover the surface. If you use too much, it may not dry. DO NOT POUR THE VARNISH ONTO THE SURFACE. The number one question Gamblin gets about their varnish is that it won’t dry and it is always because the person poured it on. 5 - I usually put the wet varnished painting in an area where there will be no lint flying into it. This can be a box, a closet, or an area that will protect it. I then wait at least 12 hours but it will probably dry quicker.
I use Gamvar Varnish with a Trekell Varnish brush.Dean Cornwell - Desert Healer Master CopyTodd M. Casey2024-09-21 | Composition 1: Master Studies In this class we will do 4 small copies of a masters work. We will analyze how the artist put together the painting and discuss any takeaways.

-- The full video is approximately 2 hours of footage of me completing this painting. The painting was done in just under two hours using a direct method of painting over two sessions (two days). A direct method of painting means that there is no intial drawing on a paper, or canvas, which is then transferred or used as a guide. This method is very difficult as I’m juggling drawing, and color at the same time.Shop Talk (The ToddCast): Tom Root, Episode 13Todd M.
