A new microphone on a new camera shot a video that I have edited on new software running on a new operating system. If you are reading this then I must have been successful at getting it all to work. I have been lost for a few years now. I lost my interest in upgrading camera equipment, computer equipment and editing software because my computer operating system updated or YouTube changed something. The fate of my channel was uncertain as I battled with multiple software and hardware issue trying to upgrade everything one more time. I have completed no less than 4 complete equipment and software upgrades since the Econo Challenge YouTube channel was created in 2007. Each one requiring more processor speed, better camera resolution and always a media change. I have gone from High 8 tape to DV tape to memory cards. None of it is backwards compatible, supported or built to last. Lost files, corrupt sectors or defective memory replace wrinkled tape and dirty play heads.Then you have the extra support equipment needed to continue shooting for days without access to modern infrastructure. Solar panels need to connect to battery banks so they can charge camera and microphone batteries. Don’t forget the cables and connectors that go with it all. Over time I have slowly created a complicated system to capture and bring back images and video from the wilderness. I realized I was no longer enjoying the creative process. Primitive Clay Pottery Revisited - Econo Challenge EconoChallenge 2018-08-15 | This primitive clay pottery project took place over one week. The first-day clay was collected and cleaned. Then grog was added using the fired pottery from my previous attempt. Finally, the coiling method was used to create a bowl. I returned home with the project to allow it time to dry inside a vegetable ziplock bag over five days. No cracks formed. I returned to the same location on the following weekend with the dried clay pot to fire it in a campfire and complete this video. Best Wilderness Fireplace Design EconoChallenge 2018-06-30 | A horseshoe shape made of rock with a high back, sloping sides and low front is my favourite wilderness fireplace design. The rocks absorb heat and radiate it back when the fire dies down. The rocks at the back of the fire pit reflect light and heat up to create a chimney effect that helps carry smoke up into the air above those enjoying the fire. The lower front allows more heat to radiate toward the viewer and allows a better view of the fire right down to the coals. You will enjoy this video series if you hike, backpack, trek, paddle, kayak, climb, pedal, wilderness camp, or love it all!Two medium sized heads of cauliflowerSprinkle with olive oilSprinkle with lemon juiceTwo minced cloves of fresh garlicPinch of fresh ground pepperPinch of coarsely ground saltA sprinkle of parmesan cheeseSriracha hot chilli sauce (optional)Mix cauliflower flowerets, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, pepper, salt in a large bowl until the flowerets are coated with all ingredients. Spread a single layer of this mixture on a baking tray and roast in a pre-heated oven at 400 °F (200 °C) for 30 to 35 minutes until flowerets begin to caramelize. Do not burn.Place small batches of the flowerets in a blender with a dash of Sriracha hot chilli sauce, parmesan cheese and water. Blend until you have a uniform paste. You may add more garlic, salt and pepper to taste.Spread this mixture on the fruit leather tray and place in dehydrator for 10 hours at 150 °F (65 °C) until small dry flakes form.
