decided to write this description since I was bored.
-For context, I use a Pokemon Blue save file on Sameboy with an iPhone. No Memory Editing, Cheats, or Ace were used, but you do need Item Underflow.-
I was actually dealing with a lot of burnout before this. So I was randomly clicking buttons, hoping i could find something to post for the week. I was willing to go with anything at this point, I was struggling to find something new.
Saw the Rocket grunt next to the poster. i never did that whole thing because I just Pokedolled the Marowak, I haven’t tried many glitches on their actual battle yet, so I decided to give it a try.
Anyways I talked to them, and did the battle. Decided to use the 9F item in battle for the heck of it because what harm would it do? 9F warks as a partial battle escape for wild battles, but for trainer battles, it just resets trainer battles, after all.
This brought in the grunts second defeated dialogue before the battle reset. You know the one where they say they’re gonna tell the boss.
Since that dialogue never turns off the controls, (i assume thats what it is) the controls lock up when the battle resets and you cant do the fight; you’re just stuck on “Grunt wants to fight” or whatever it says.
I was just going to post this as a discovery, but, it was kinda like a “No shit thats what happens” discovery. And I didn’t REALLY want that.
Instead, I wanted to see if I could get around it. so I reset the fight, got into the battle again, and with some trial and error, i ended up using my good ol friend, MapScriptPointer from item underflow, to see if it did anything.
I kept swapping items and using 9F after there one at a time till I got a nothing script, (idk how it works but instead of a crash it just turns scripts off.) I think. Its VERY common. Don’t remember what Items i swapped, but i had to do swaps because you cant toss in battle. It was maybe like 8 items i tested each. (Kept getting dumb RST 38h so thank god for my Rewind button lmao) Eventually I swapped the item, used 9F and got a nothing script. Then, the battle reset, and the grunt was unlocked; you could battle them. This, gave me my idea, “What if that works on the hooked dragonite”?
I was kinda sceptical on it at first, so i did the whole hooked dragonite setup, then after finding the amount I need to toss to nothing the pointer, (it was -4 tosses from the original amount of Guard Spec there) I talked to them. The walk started, (well, its more like a stare I guess) and, instead of doing its End script, where they say “Heres the museum, you need a ticket to get in but its worth it” and the battle starts, that Ticket part was skipped entirely, and the battle started with the Dragonite.
And, the Hooked dragonite was unlocked. I did it. This was something I wanted to do for a very long time; find a glitch to catch the Hooked Dragonite, but I just assumed now it was impossible without Cheats or Ace before this. But, here I am, battling the thing.
Its a typical glitch safari battle, like the Hooked Metapod. i already knew this from a Cheat code I used to just change the controls a while back.
(But, then i forgot it does the same thing as a hooked Metapod, and forces you to repetively click your 1st item in your bag, so I reset everything and put a masterball there, did it again,)
THEN I caught it in the masterball.
After that, I know how to fix the not opening menu you get after the battle and all the visual corruption it caused; you just save and reset with the PC, and boom. We have caught the hooked dragonite.
Then i actually recorded it doing all those steps.
Basically wMapscriptpointer just skips the entire script itself when changed to a nothing value. So it never does the control change.
-I was the one who ended up adding myself to the Hooked Dragonite Page on glitch city wiki about it (WITH PERMISSION, I got the go from TimoVM) So I added that I caught it, then I added how. I must’ve done a good job, its still up today, lmao.

But for some reason, unlike any other 9F effects, the menu doesnt update its graphics, keeping the old menu and envirement on screen, making you look like you arent moving your character at all. (You can change the bits of D36E and DE6F with item underflow of course). If you go to a place that has a Snorlax outside, I used the one south of lavender) you can prolong the actual encounter if you change D36E/D36F to an item that turns off the battles. After doing this, if you use the Poke flute on the tile beside Snorlax, the sound will play, but the dialogue for waking it up won’t continue, and no battle will happen. If we change D36E/D36F back to its normal value, the snorlax dialoge pops up, and you get in the battle with a snorlax, as long as you’re on the same route. Getting in front of an unbattled trainer, then fixing D36E/F to be back to normal, forces the Snorlax battle first. Now, in battle, you have to use the glitch item “9F” to reset the battle, causing the dialogue for snorlax “going back to the mountains” that happens after the battle is done to appear, then Snorlax battle happens again because that’s just what happens with 9F+instant encounter battle is done. If you click 9F one more time, the unbattled trainers “!” Bubble will pop up. In the Items Menu, This causes the battle to reset and give us another snorlax. But this time something’s different. If you are in front of the trainer face to face, in this 3rd snorlax battle, you won’t be able to move your curser, and you can only click A and B. If you are 1 or more tiles away from the trainer but still in their line of sight, the 3rd snorlax battle locks up entirely, and you can’t click anything to start the battle. If you get the A button one, you can defeat the Snorlax. After you defeat it, the fisherman battler will talk to you, then BOOM. Instant encounter starts, and the Pokémon that appears is based on the 3rd Snorlax’s special stat.Request: How to catch “Q” and What it’s Used For (Pokémon Yellow)GlitchmonRBY2026-05-31 | Pokémon Yellow only, not a discovery, just a video talking about the easiest way to get the glitch Pokémon QSuper-Glitch color pallet causes Game Corner machines to go extremely slow. I don’t know if someone found this already.

Pokémon Blue. Idk if this has been talked about at all
Where we talk about using the rivals infinite name, made from Item Underflow, plus an Item that has the rivals name in it, to cause a rare corruption that doesn’t crash the game, unlike when you normally click it. This corruption corrupts trainers Pokémon, as well as where you’re put when you’re in the Overworld. Catching Pokémon makes a crash on the nickname screen. Using 9F can do various things, but one leading to being teleported to a Glitch City (Route 21 glitch city), with a diffrent filter and walk Through walls if you jump off a ledge after this effect. Unlike Superglitch and ZZAZZ, it doesn’t corrupt the players Pokemon. Wild Pokémon allow for the menu in the Glitch city to be opened, and that can let us see the RESET is replaced with the save button, usually only used in the Cable Club. Pairing Rival buffer with Superglitch, an overflow can happen when Superglitch uses the string in its move name, and with the correct actions acterwards, we can cause a Trainer fly like effect.
The thing that causes the game to stop is a 0x50 in VRAM. I do not think this was discovered by me.Trainer Fly caused by Super glitch Corruption using the Rivals Infinite String Name to OverflowGlitchmonRBY2026-04-30 | Using an infinitely recursive string for the rivals name, f we get lucky to not hit the corruption, we can pair it with Superglitch. (Pokémon Blue version)

Using Item Underflow, I swapped wCurMap.
I found this while trying to obtain the item needed to swap to the Safari Zone mid battle. Then it just went deeper and now I’m switching fishing rods and getting fossil text-boxes to appear with different Pokémon in them. And then the whole Save thing, that’s a whole different can of wormsRevising “Boxset Corruption” (In-game save reload setup) Pokémon BlueGlitchmonRBY2026-04-07 | This is done by getting a textbox that has a certain size, which is caused by Superglitch. a Yes/no textbox specifically. It overflows the area near Link Cable data, getting this effect.
Once you do this, do a trainer battle, and either win or escape using an item like a pokeball, opening your menu again should cause the save to reload. This even works if your previous save was corrupted. (You can do this by finding a door, and then saving with the PC)
This does not work on Pokémon Yellow, and this was done on Blue version, Red version and the Japanese versions may have different effects.Revising the 9F Hooked Effect (Pokémon Blue)GlitchmonRBY2026-04-03 | #pokemon #gen1 #9F #pokemonred #pokemonblue #hooked #Missingno #glitch
This is an effect caused by 9F. 9F is a glitch item in red/blue that acts as a partial escape item, aka it basically opens the start menu during a battle. As you can see, that leads to a lot of problems, including Memory addresses not being reset after a battle. One of those memory addresses is the Missed Move address, which just so happens to use the same address as the Hooked flag that’s used in the beginning of the battle.
So this makes the next encounter Hooked. What’s Hooked? “The Hooked XXXXXXX Attacked!” Is the message you usually get when doing Fishing encounters.
If you want to get a 9F, you can use this cheat, 015E7CCF and buy one from the shop, or you can do item underflow like I have and find one there. Be aware that if you use 9F too much, it will cause Stack Corruption in the PC.
This cheat only works in Red/Blue. 9F has different effects in Yellow version and other versions from Western. The “ZZAZZ” Glitch Battle Theme (Pokémon Red/Blue)GlitchmonRBY2026-03-30 | ...Beating the ZZAZZ Glitch using Super-Glitch Corruption (Pokémon Blue)GlitchmonRBY2026-03-28 | To do this, I used the Super-glitch move, and put it in the 3rd slot, so it doesn’t get rid of it. First, If you use 9F against a wild Pokémon, then you catch it and use Fly, the next Pokémon you encounter will be a Transformed ditto of the Pokémon you were supposed to encounter. It retains the health from the previous encounter, causing overflows if Dittos health is smaller then the Pokemon before it. And the other thing: If a Pokémon uses a move and then misses its attack, and then you use 9F, the next Pokémon you’ll encounter will be Hooked. This took an embarrassingly long time to figure that last one out because I found it while paired with Super-glitch. (Yeah, don’t even need Super-glitch for it. That was stupid on my part) It happens because the thing that is set for if a Pokémon misses a move is the same memory address that’s used to determine if a Pokémon is Hooked. And since we never really left the battle, that value sticks to the next fight. Seems encounters were disabled though, or they’re extremely rare, because I had to use Static encounters for it. I only got 2 wild encounters after traveling half the map. (I started in MT moon and left with the exit after using 9F, then went to Old Man and Articuno). It makes me curious, what other things could I do in battle that could be reinterpreted using 9F.
I do not know if these have been found yet.

(Without Cheat Codes or Memory Editing) (Pokémon Red/Blue)GlitchmonRBY2026-03-10 | This is how I set up my game to do videos. Here’s an explanation if you didn’t want to watch the video, or if you find it easier to follow along like this:
Disclaimer: I didn’t say this in the video, but I use Sameboy to do glitch hunts. If you are wanting to do Glitch Hunts, make sure the Emulater is accurate. I’ve read online that Sameboy is one of the more accurate ones, but even I have to look out for things.
If you can’t get an accurate Emulaters, it’s okay, just be aware that glitches you find may be the result of using a bad Emulater and may not be recreatable on other devices.
If you’re using VGC, the glitches there are slightly different. Same goes for original hardware.
If you can duplicate items, this works in Yellow as well. You’ll just have to get yourself Q instead for Superglitch. Otherwise, this method only applies to the Western release of Pokémon Red/Blue.
To start:
-: Make sure you play the game up to the Elite 4 Pokémon Center. This is so you can unlock all the Fly locations, although it’s not required. You can start as early as Fushia if you’re dedicated enough.
Item underflow:
To start, we wil be setting up Item underflow, here’s how you do it:
-Put a disposable item in your 6th slot of your bag. This has to be an item you can use in battle. For my example, I used pokeballs. Make sure you have only one.
-Do the Old Man glitch, and get in a battle with either ‘M or MissingNo.
-While in battle, scroll down to your 6th item. You should see that it has duplicated.
-Use 2 of that item. So for me, Id throw 2 pokeballs. Make sure you don’t catch it tho.
-Run away after using those 2 pokeballs.
-Don’t touch the item slot, instead Encounter MissingNo or ‘M yet again.
-if you look at your bag, and the disposable item you used now has the value of 5, we’re good to go. Run away from the battle without using any items. This means you have an item count of 255.
-Next, go to your PC
-Move the stack of 255 items to the top of your bag. Deposit everything under it, other then 2 throw away items of your choice. Make sure you only have one of each 2 items, though.
Your bag should look like this:
Pokeball: 255 Rare candy: 1 X special: 1
-Exit the PC, and open your Bag.
Move the Pokeball stack to the bottom of the bag.
-Rare Candy 1 - X Special 1 - Pokeball 255
Now toss the middle item first. This should turn the slot into another 255 stack of Pokeballs.
-Rare Candy 1 - Pokeball 255 - Pokeball 255
-Then toss the 1st item in your bag.
Your bag should look like this:
- Pokeball 255 - Pokeball 255 - Pokeball 255
Now, on the first pokeball icon, toss 253 of it. This should leave you with 2 of the first item.
-Pokeball 2 -Pokeball 255 -Pokeball 255
Select the first slot, and swap it with the middle slot. Should look like this.
-Pokeball 1 -Pokeball 255
Swap the top one again with the bottom one. It should look like this. You can scroll down now.
-Pokeball 0 / / / / (Underflow)
This allows you to get any item in the game, and allows you to chance certain memory addresses by changing the item and value of something in your bag. If you want to know what these are, look at Item Underflow on Glitch City Wiki, there’s a list of memory addresses each part changes.
Celadon City loop trick.
-To get any item with Item underflow, you’ll have to know this trick.
First, look at the Big Hex list. Get an item that’s the closest to the item you want. For example if I wanted a Masterball, I can use a Pokeball to get there.
Now go to Celadon city. You want to stand on the first time at the right entrance to the city. Stand on the bottom tile.
-Looking in item underflow, eventually you’ll find a single nugget. This nugget changes values depending on our Y address.
-swap the nugget with the item you prepared.
-Going left on the map changes the items value up the HEX list, and going right makes it go down.
So taking 3 steps left with my Pokeball would give me a Master ball.
Once you get the item you want, you can select it and swap it for one of your stable item slots in the expanded item bag. I used the 0 pokeballs slot in my bag for this.
-After you are done, fly away. This should fix the Y axis.
Super glitch corruption:
A deadly corruption that can break your game, BUT can be influenced by what actions you take. It’s how you can do things like Fossil Conversion.
-You’re going to need a special stat of 198 on a Pokémon. I usually use Tentacruel or Starmie for this.
You can level it up with Rare candies found North of the Nugget bridge, beside the grass with the Hiker, in item underflow.
You can do Celadon Looping to get Vitamins. I showed where in the video but I don’t remember where that is.
Use those to get your Pokémon to have 198 special.
-I ran out of room. Do trainer fly, catch LM4, level or up to teach it Super glitch while near a 0x50 sub tile, then make a permanent, clean save state.MissingNo, it’s just my favorite Pokémon ever. You know? #pokemon #missingnoGlitchmonRBY2026-03-06 | ...
