You WILL make money off of that problem car for the next 20 years as long as you take the time to figure out the "why"! We arent here to fix EVERYTHING #shorts ScannerDanner 2022-08-17 | This car was towed in for a no crank, no start condition that was diagnosed with a bad TCM. After the reopair, It now cranks and runs but isn't running right. Should we as technicians get paid additional diagnostic time to look at the running problem? (If the customer approves) Or should we continue to look at this new problem as part of the original complaint? Communication is the key, no matter what you think should happen! Communication with the customer and communication between the garage owner and the technician. The technician should be paid to look at this new problem, and if the garage owner fails to properly communicate that with the customer, it is the garage owners responsibility to pay his technician! We do not work for free, and we should be able to make very good money performing "dianostic work". and being paid for our expertise! Ask any technician in the field, especially in a flat rate shop, about how much they get paid for "diagnostic time". It is ridiculous, to the point that some of them are not being paid at all, and it is time for this to change! For the customer who is reading this; reading a code and then changing a part is NOT a diagnostic! No you are not getting a "free diagnostic" at the parts store.
