Fake Story:
After trudging through the corpses of your foes in the emerald city, you come across a gaping maw of flesh and metal. Heart pounding with trepidation, you enter the massive orifice to discover an elevator that seemingly reaches into the very depths of hell.
Sweating with anticipation, you ride the elevator down. After what seems like an eternity, you finally catch a glimpse of green light below you. The light grows stronger and stronger until the lift finally bursts into a hidden cavern, miles below the earth's crust.
Inside this cavern is what seems to be the remains of a colony of ancient religious priests, charged with the task of protecting the remains of a mysterious being, locked in a mausoleum situated at the north end of the cavern. The priests who once roamed these lands are long gone, replaced by demonic beings of unspeakable horror.

Review:
I really liked this map, I think on a second playthrough I appreciated the ingenuity of some fights more than the first time. There's a couple spots, namely the middle mausoleum section and the three "choice" fights, where the combat is more "complicated" than the past Sunder maps. The scale of the map is not quite as big as map19, but this time there's fewer buildings, and the buildings are bigger, contrast this with map19, where there were lots of small buildings with small scale fights.
For the visuals, I think they're cool, but I wish there was a color scheme that was more different than the color scheme in map19. Both maps are predominantly green. It would be cool if it was a different accent color.

I like this map a lot. The gimmick of starting out running around the horde of skeletons works well. I enjoy the point where you finally get to fight the horde with the BFG too. The only part that I don't really like as much is the Arachnotron part, even though it's well thought through. It seems really detached from the rest of the map.

I feel like this one turned up the heat in some spots. Mostly in the ambush at the switch in the tree area. I think the added spice helped this one stick out more from the rest of the maps thus far, so it may have been my favorite yet.

Awesome map. One of my favorites in the set, possibly my favorite. There's lots of fun fights where you have to be aggressive and push through things while cyber rockets are stacking some pressure on you.

I liked the first two fights. There's nothing too cerebral in those fights but that's not a bad thing necessarily. The last fight I think would have worked well with just the cacos and one teleporting arachnotron in each corner. As it stands I think there's too much stuff teleporting in to refill those cubbies on the outside.

A pretty fun one, nothing to say. I must admit I’m starting to get a little tired of the techbase theme. And the way Antares has done it so far has been a strange mix of colors that I think don’t really mesh well together. When maps start to have too many different colors I think they start to look Frankenstein-ey, if that’s a word.
The combat is pretty good, but not as memorable this time around I think, save for the final descent into the blue area.

Not bad again, another solid techbase map with slightly more challenge. I do think there was a misstep in the progression in that the switch that opens Unit 2 also opens up the bars to the blue key. I got excited about finding Unit 2 so I took off elsewhere into the map and didn’t notice the blue key opened up. It would be nice if maybe there was a door leading out of the room that required the blue key.

Here's the "real" run, recorded through demo playback. I wanted to upload this the same time as the Twitch Highlight so that people could just choose the one they wanted to watch, but I couldn't really get it rendered in time (I had two failed viddump experiments). I finally decided to record it the same way I record all my Youtube videos, meaning there are some semi-frequent mini-freezes, like all my other videos.

Notes:
The Advanced HUD was used in this demo. 2 pain elementals failed to teleport in on map13, but other than that, all kills.
The big goal in this run is just to make it past map06. After that, it's just pure survival just to see how far you can get. I spent a lot of time practicing the platforming section in map11, and luckily I never fell there in the two times I made it that far. The fight at the end of map12 is really scary, but saving the corner cells in the middle can allow you some extra bfg shots before you run out.
This was attempt number 73, which I don't think is too bad. It was only a couple months of runs. I did have one gruesome death in the very final fight of map14. Play got really conservative in the last two maps, especially the end of map13 and the middle of map14.
There's still some things I cringe at in this run, namely when I completely fucked up the AV jump at the beginning of map12 but still made it anyways. Also I thought a cyber was dead in the very final fight in map14 but it wasn't, and almost buzzkilled the run.
I don't know what else to say really, except for thanks for all the other d2allers that are participating in this mini-craze right now and who had supported me throughout this journey. This includes Starduster, Daerik, David Asaad, and Nightterror. Additionally, want to thank all the runners who have completed uv max demos of the individual maps for giving me ideas for strats. And thanks to you, Youtube! This journey has been a great one for me, and we have managed to build up a positive, mini-community which has been awesome to see!

Great map. I liked every single fight. Nothing bad to say. I just want to refrain from giving it a 10/10 because there was nothing HUGE that jumped out at me or made me love it. I guess it’s just a by-product of the fact that these are all small maps.
Visually, it’s stunning. It seems like it takes some influence from Sunder map31 visually. The final fight also reminds me of the Sunder map32 finale. Great map!

Here's the highlight from twitch, featuring commentary and chat. The non-commentary video is taking a little longer to process and upload, it will probably be up by tomorrow. Originally I was going to publish this and the non-commentary run at the same time, but I've been having some serious trouble rendering and recording the demo.
Note: I was having internet issues during the stream, and so it is a little choppy in some places, and in others, quality can be pretty bad. There are noticeable skips in maps 06 and map08. Also I took breaks in certain parts, but I've tried to cut these out as much as possible. There was even a point in map14 where I had to pause and welcome my parents back from Florida. I may have missed some moments where I got up to get a drink or paused to read chat.

Also thanks to everyone who came to witness this on stream, especially nbrocx, FrancisT18, el_inferno, Lucky_Edie, Jacek Bourne, conzmoleman, MarketAnarchy, MasterMedi, 4shockblast, and stxvile. Lastly thanks to insane_gazebo for creating this masterpiece of a wad.
And thanks to you, Youtube! This journey has been a great one for me, and we have managed to build up a positive, mini-community which has been awesome to see!
This is also the new longest demo on DSDA, sorry frinky!

I've got some sad news. Unfortunately I've decided that I've just bit off more than I can chew with this run. I think I'm gonna call it quits. I've always got my regular uploads to fall back on anyways.
Sorry to everyone who was looking forward to the run but this has just been dominating my life for the past couple of months and I just want it to stop by now. I think my run that made it to map14 was just lucky because I haven't been able to get even remotely close to that in recent attempts.
Stay frosty, Sunder. You've won this time.

Pretty fun. I think I differ from other players when I say that the second fight is my favorite out of the two. I just don’t enjoy infighting puzzles as much as everyone else. I’d rather shoot shit lol.
Visuals are really cool, the lighting effect on the distant peaks is awesome.

Not bad, reminds me of the type of map I’d like when I first started playing doom. It’s a solid techbase with a nice layout. Challenge was lacking of course, but it’s map01, what can I say? All around pretty good, if a little uneventful.
I usually don’t like custom monsters/weapons, but so far the modifications seem pretty unobtrusive, with the exception of the revenant, which is definitely gonna mess with my muscle memory. If it gets extreme later on it may become annoying for me, but that’s just my taste. Also there’s some automap cleanup. I prefer all the details to be visible on the map, so I’m just the slightest bit off put by that but it’s pretty okay.

I will have my revenge.
This death was almost 4 hours deep into the run, I missed the invulnerability because I rocketed myself against a revenant and fell to my death. I was pretty disappointed, but I wasn't too discouraged. I think if I can make it all the way to map11 then I should be able to complete the whole wad in due time.
I usually stream my attempts at: twitch.tv/arbys550 but in this particular session I decided not to because I didn't feel like it.

I liked this one quite a bit. There were some nice slaughter arenas that I enjoyed. Only thing I didn’t like was the start, just because of the ammo starvation. I felt like I was sitting around hoping enemies would shoot and infight rather than killing them myself. I liked the final fight a lot. Also maybe the exit could have been done better, it’s really easy to accidentally go in before killing all the revs.

Italo Doom Final Thoughts:
Definitely one of the harder mapsets out there. I think if I have one thing to say about the combat as a whole, it's that a lot of the fights were a little too cerebral or puzzle-y for my taste. I think my favorite map is still map13, with map14 being my least favorite, and map17 being the hardest for me. The wad is also pretty weird, with unconventional progression at times and exits that are really weird or not marked at all. Overall I had some fun playing through this, if it was a little frustrating at times.
Apparently I lowered the volume for this one, don’t know why. I think map18 is the way to go from now on, though.

Serious Review:
I enjoyed almost every part of this map. Setpieces were nice, tight, fun encounters for the most part. I especially liked the final area.
I do take issue with the very first fight, where you must dodge a bunch of cyber rockets in a long tunnel. It wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for a scrolling floor that seemed to be inconsistent in its speed. I kept randomly slowing down at odd times and it made it hard to judge my rocket dodges. Maybe I was just brushing up against the wall, and that’s what was slowing me down. If that’s true, then I think there’s an issue with the wall texture, which is pitch black, making it hard to know if you’re touching it or not.
My second gripe with the conveyors in this section are that you cannot enter the teleporter from the sides, because the conveyor will shoot you right past it. You pretty much have to come at the teleporter head on it seems, which brings it down to whether or not the center cyber shoots.
I also like the color scheme of this map. There’s also a weird progression moment in Cannabis Kingdom where standing on the shell box somehow activates the lift out.
My Rating: 8/10
Difficulty: 9/10 (Insane)
Just skip to 33.25. Each “Act” is me restarting the map, cause I kept getting stuck in bad situations. 33.25 is the final restart. Also the audio is still a little quiet, but I think it’s better than map16. We’re back in business in map18, I promise!
The reason behind the initial audio imbalance was I decided to switch back to FBX from OBS again and it took me a couple tries to get the balance back.

Dear lord this is by far the hardest map in the wad for me. I thought I was playing Dimensions for a second. The max for this map is only 1:32, yet the video is 45 minutes long, lol. Anyway, I don’t see how taking care of the archviles in the center could be consistent at all. Once you move in for the kill, you have to stay there or else you will be ass-blasted on the retreat. This wouldn’t be a problem, however the way the cells are placed means you only have at max 600 cells to deal with all the archviles. It’s kind of ingenious if you think about it.
Overall, I think it was too hard for me to have fun in, but I can see that it was a well-crafted setpiece, and there were no weird progression issues like the past maps, so I’ll be generous with my score. I do like the visuals too, they’re simple but they get the job done.

Not bad for me, I liked the crusher section a lot and the bonanza tape warning section as well. The final push was pretty good too. I did have an issue with the fact that it seemed almost mandatory to take the rocket launcher stairs path first, before going to the crusher area, otherwise you wouldn’t have enough firepower to deal with the archviles.
I also didn’t like how the sides of the steps were pitch black, making it harder to traverse without falling off. The progression at the imp platform is pretty nonsensical too. I think shooting the lift texture behind them raises the platform.
I do like the theme of this map too, it’s not something you see often.

It might have been the fatigue talking, but this map kinda pissed me off, just like map14. It wouldn’t be too bad if it weren’t for one glaring atrocity in the map layout. Said atrocity is that a big ammo cache and megasphere are locked off unless you get the yellow key, which is located on a dropoff that is only accessible from the starting area. The yellow key is located on a dropoff to the right of the start. I chose to dropoff to the left, so I missed the yellow key entirely, meaning I had barely any ammo or health for the left fight. It was pretty miserable.
Now, there IS a way back to the start, but it is a staircase that lowers into the ground once the fight to the left is started. However, I didn’t notice it because it was always lowered into the ground when I walked over to the area. There is no way to raise it up again, even after the fight ends. As a result of all the lost cells, I couldn’t really kill the cyber at the end which kinda made me mad. Keep in mind at this point I thought the cell stash was inaccessible and I assumed my troubles were a result of the mapper refusing to place cells near the cyber.
The other thing I didn’t like was that it was a little misleading with the mancubi platforms at the end. There is an invisible floor to stop you from falling, but I didn’t know that, so I kept trying to platform across the pillars. If I would have known there was a floor there, it would have made that section a lot more comfortable.
Actually after looking at the footage I had cells but chose not to use them for some reason, idk why.
The beginning was alright though, and the map doesn’t look awful.

Seriously, fuck this map. I thought it was absolutely awful. You get no weapons at the start, meaning you have to push through with death after death, running past enemies, just to find a weapon or ammo, which is the kind of map start I hate.
The map is pretty nonlinear, but you have to go to a specific spot just to find a weapon (the rocket launcher), which is hidden inside a giant closet of enemies that the player would never think to check there, the way the layout is. The trigger for the closet is the yellow key, which is located right on a dropoff. The player is encouraged to take this dropoff instead of staying up there, meaning they will likely never locate the RL.
That by itself is forgivable, but the map gets even worse. A monster closet opens up with 600 cells, but how the fuck do you get the BFG? It’s high up on a platform. At the time I just assumed it would lower at one point. Nope. You have to do a mandatory archvile jump to grab it. Fuck that. How the hell are people supposed to know that? You practically have to use a SPECIFIC archvile to do it, one which I just killed right away, so I was fucked.
The shit doesn’t stop there. There’s an absolutely abhorrent platforming jump you have to make to grab the red key, and to even get to said jump, you have to locate a tiny staircase that I didn’t even know was there for the longest time. The map also looks like a donkey’s ass.
