In April of 2023 we found out we were pregnant with our first baby! After a tough year of breast cancer treatment, we weren't even sure if it would be possible to conceive naturally so we have been absolutely thrilled to share this news with you. Today we go in for our 20 week scan and learn that our baby is happy and healthy which is honestly all we could ever hope for. The bonus is that we can now reveal their gender too!! We first moved to our cabin in the woods back in 2020 and got stuck into the interior renovation projects. It took us nearly a year to turn a run down 1970s cabin into our dream home and oasis in the woods. Slowly we've been chipping away at exterior projects like this one. Over the course of 1 year we transformed unusable, rocky ground into a grassy area we know our kids will love playing games on in the future!

The first time we abandoned this van was in March of 2020 during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. We returned at the end of 2021 to find our tiny home parked exactly as we’d left it (much to our surprise!). In 2017 we bought our first sprinter van and spent 30 days renovating it into our dream tiny home. The plan was to van life around the world and we'd made it all the way from Canada to Africa. Fast forward to COVID...us abandoning our van in a Moroccan parking lot, flying home to Canada, converting yet another van, and then moving to our cabin in the woods.

We've always envisioned moving into the woods by the lake and building our dream tiny cabin as a home base for us to come back to in between our international van life travels. On December 21, 2021, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer after months of appointments, biopsies, and misinformation. In January of 2022, I began my treatment plan which consisted of 1 full round of IVF to preserve our fertility, 8 rounds of intensive chemotherapy, another partial mastectomy (breast surgery), and finally 20 rounds of radiation. Today I am sharing a behind-the-scenes look at 1 full month of radiation, the side effects of the treatment, and a little celebration that this marks the end of a very long year of treatment.

The online world comes with many beautiful perks but the constant highlight reels of Instagram and social media can often make us feel isolated. Like we're not doing enough. Like we don't have enough. That we aren't enough. And while I love sharing the amazing places we've traveled and never miss a chance to capture a sunset I want my voice here to be more impactful. We are all enough. We are everything we could ever need. We can find beauty in the midst of turmoil, despair, and chaos.

Over the last eight months, I have had two breast surgeries, 8 rounds of intensive chemotherapy, and 1 month of fertility treatment (ending with an egg retrieval surgery) to treat breast cancer. On December 21, 2021, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer after months of appointments, biopsies, and misinformation. Since then I have shared my healing journey in the hopes that I may help that one person out there who is navigating a challenging time and feels alone.

Back when we first met with our oncologist, 16 weeks of chemotherapy sounded like a mountain I wasn't sure I was strong enough to climb. And while it has certainly been the hardest months of our lives I now know that I was given this mountain to show others it CAN be moved.

On December 21, 2021 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. We embarked on a journey of healing beginning with 8 rounds of chemotherapy. Before chemo began I was terrified of losing my hair, of feeling weak and of becoming really sickly looking but I was determined to remain positive about how the treatment would affect me. Today we are sharing what a typical day looks like for us at home while living with cancer and the harsh effects of chemotherapy treatment. Our life at our cabin in the woods certainly looks different now than it did a year ago (think more napping, less building stuff 😜 ) but I hope anyone going through something similar may find a bit of hope in this episode. Maybe you feel a little less alone. Maybe you learn a new food trick. Or maybe you just take this as your reminder to go easy on yourself.

I Lost All My Hair to Chemotherapy

The hardest words I've heard lately have been "you have breast cancer" but this was followed closely by "you will lose your hair." For as long as I can remember I have had long, healthy hair, and as I learned on this hair loss journey... this was a big part of my identity. But what scared me more about losing all my hair to chemotherapy was that once I was bald I would be easily identified as a cancer patient. Knowing that anyone could quickly see what I was going through and feel 'sorry for me' or 'sad for me' scared me even more.

This story begins with cutting 16 inches off my hair to hopefully make a wig from my own hair. I then share a beautiful wig we've gotten to help me through those moments where I just want to feel a little 'normal' again. And last I share the troubling moments of hair shedding to the moment when we decide to shave my head.

My First Week of Chemotherapy (breast cancer)

Eamon & Bec 2022-02-20 | On December 21, 2021, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. My treatment plan begins with 8 rounds of chemo. This is my first week of treatment. After receiving my diagnosis, my team of doctors devised a treatment plan that will give me the best chances of beating breast cancer at 31 years old. It all begins with 8 rounds of chemotherapy. I will receive bi-weekly infusions which (if all goes according to plan) will bring us into May of 2022. Our hope is that the chemotherapy will attack all of the cancer cells that remain in my right breast and kill any little cancerous cells that may have metastasized throughout my body. Unfortunately, there is no real way to detect how well my body is responding to the treatment as I go through it but I will continue to meditate and focus my energy on healing.

On December 21, 2021, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer at 31 years old. To add to the news my doctor said that chemotherapy and other hormonal treatments have a high chance of sending me into early menopause and therefore lessen our chances of conceiving naturally. We haven't talked too much about our child plan with all of you but having kids has always been something we have wanted. So, my team of doctors gave us the option to undergo 1 round of IVF to hopefully freeze embryos to implant in the future (once I am cancer free) & preserve our chances of bringing a biological baby into this world.

We are grateful for this chance.

While undergoing treatment we realized just how many couples are also going through this journey for a variety of reasons. We hope that watching us go from confused, afraid and overwhelmed to learning how to take the daily injections all the way to a successful egg retrieval and embryo freezing may make you feel a little less alone ❤️❤️❤️.

The online world comes with many beautiful perks but the constant highlight reels of Instagram and social media can often make us feel isolated. Like we're not doing enough. Like we don't have enough. That we aren't enough. And while I love sharing the amazing places we've traveled and never miss a chance to capture a sunset I want my voice here to be more impactful. We are all enough. We are everything we could ever need. We can find beauty in the midst of turmoil, despair, and chaos. And I want to learn how to do this with all of you.
