The Tortoise and The Rat (2020) | Student Film Samuel AkenOva 2022-12-04 | SYNOPSIS: In this animated folktale feature, the Tortoise is a renowned yam farmer whose harvest is vanishing at an alarming rate. Could this predicament be thanks to his faithful servant, the Rat?This is an animated feature I put together two years ago for my final year project in the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. For my project, I was tasked with creating an animated feature that drew from African (preferably Nigerian) folktales, and also taught important lessons like Hard Work, Honesty and Respect.Due to how things were structured at the time (and the department's previous experience with a similar project), this was a solo project, even though projects of this nature are usually collaborative. That meant that I had to script, storyboard, conceptualize, animate, voice act, score and edit the entire thing by my lonesome (granted, I could have gotten someone else to help me with voice acting, but I neither had the money or time to seek out a female voice to aid me). As you can imagine, it was both fun, and not fun at the same time. I stayed up late into many nights working on this bad boy, trying to ensure I could finish it to some degree before my department reopened.But now, here we are. The fruit of eight months of labor. Honestly, there are more things I wished to add to this project (which is why I hadn't uploaded it until now). But I decided that if I wanted more people to see what I can do, I best show what I already have.Special Thanks to everyone that requires thanking.
